Breitbart Takes Aim At Lujan Grisham's Release of 700 Convicts

Breitbart.com generally covers national news, so when they aim their sights on a state, you know it has to be big news.

New Mexico's gubernatorial race between Mark Ronchetti and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham caught their attention yesterday after a Ronchetti ad focusing on the release of 700 convicts was released.

Here's the ad:

The Breitbart article begins with:

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) helped free 700 convicts in the state’s prison system in the last roughly two years, a new ad from Republican Mark Ronchetti details.

While locking down New Mexicans in the middle of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, Grisham signed an executive order in April 2020 that allowed her to easily free hundreds of convicts from state prison under the guise of slowing the spread of the virus.

As a result, Grisham freed about 700 convicts from state prison from April 2020 up until last month. Ronchetti, Grisham’s gubernatorial opponent, released an ad detailing the massive jailbreak agenda — noting that one of the convicts freed by Grisham was involved in the largest fentanyl bust in American history.

When this began happing, people in New Mexico wondered, How is releasing convicts aiding in stopping the spread of COVID-19?  Wouldn't people be better off if they remained incarcerated to contain the spread of the virus within the prison population?

To be charitable, it was a stupid move by the governor.

Coronavirus: Inmates Released Already Committing Murder

If anyone needs a reason for the big spike in gun sales, all one has to do is to see what liberal judges are doing.

They are releasing criminals from jails and prisons so not to have coronavirus spread in those jails. So these idiots want them to spread it into the general populace instead? What a crock of manure!

From GunsAmerica Digest:
Inmates across the country who were released to protect prison populations from COVID-19 are already committing crimes in their local communities, including at least one former inmate who admitted to stabbing a man to death just four days after his release.
Jacob Burnett was released in Louisville, KY, two days into his two-year sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Four days after being released, he admitted to stabbing and killing a 60-year-old man in a subdivision just east of the city, according to local media.
Another Louisville inmate, Kenneth Walker, was released to “home incarceration” even though he was accused of shooting local officer John Mattingly on March 13th. Corrections FOP Spokesperson Tracy Dotson told the media that his lodge has denounced Walker’s release.
The mass exodus isn’t isolated to just a few cases. According to a report by the Walton Sun, law enforcement agencies across the country are cutting their inmates loose:
  • In Cleveland, officials have released over 700 prisoners from the Cuyahoga County Jail in less than two weeks;
  • Near Oakland, California, more than 250 have been released;
  • In Nashville, Tennessee, up to 300 have been released;
  • Across New Jersey, hundreds of prisoners were expected to exit county jails this week under an order issued by Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner.
And in New Mexico (from U.S. News & World Report):
The largest municipal jail in New Mexico is releasing some inmates who are considered vulnerable to the new coronavirus, authorities announced Thursday.
Officials at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque identified several dozen inmates who meet federal health guidelines for medical risk when it comes to COVID-19. Of those, 46 will remain in custody because they are facing violent charges and are considered ineligible for release.

This is a good reason why people are buying guns by the thousands and a very good reason not to elect any Democrats so they can't appoint more radical leftist judges.

Ex-Flying J President Going To Jail

.Above, the Flying J in Jamestown, New Mexico. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Regular readers of this blog know that where I live in New Mexico, the main "hangout" for the locals here is the Flying J just down the hill from our community.

I was reading the latest edition of the RV Travel online newsletter when I saw the following story. This is the first I have heard of it.

It reads:
Former Pilot Flying J President Mark Hazelwood is set to begin serving a 12 1/2 year sentence for cheating trucking customers out of millions of dollars at the diesel pump.
His lawyers asked earlier this week for the court to postpone his sentence to begin after Christmas, so he could spend the holiday with his family. They cited their client’s “devout” Christian faith and sense of “family values” as grounds for letting him open presents at home with his family.
The court said, nope, you’ll be spending your Christmas in a jail cell.
