Mexico is outside the EU roaming zone, so most UK and EU plans charge a daily fee or a steep per-MB rate there. Resort and hotel Wi-Fi covers the room, not the drive to a cenote, the market in Oaxaca or the ride back from the airport.

- Turn on data roaming
- Once you land, switch data roaming on for the Aynet line. It costs nothing extra: the plan is the price. Keep roaming off on your home SIM so it does not charge you.
- When the plan starts
- Nearly every Mexico plan starts on your first connection in Mexico; a plan that starts on installation says so before you buy. An unstarted plan shows its install-by date in My eSIMs.
- Jungle, ruins and mountains
- Cities, resort towns and main roads are well covered. Around remote ruins, in the jungle of the Yucatán and in mountain areas like the Copper Canyon the signal gets patchy for every network. Download offline maps first.
- USA or Canada too?

Questions travellers ask
Does my EU or UK roaming work in Mexico?
Not for free. Mexico is outside the EU roaming zone, so most home plans charge a daily fee or per-MB rate there. A Mexico eSIM gives you data at a fixed price instead.
Which network will I be on in Mexico?
One of the Mexican networks listed on this page. Your phone picks the one with the best signal where you are and can switch as you move.
Does it work in Cancún, Tulum and Playa del Carmen?
Yes, the plan covers all of Mexico, and the Riviera Maya towns are well covered. Signal can drop around remote ruins and cenotes.
Does it work in the USA?
No, a Mexico plan works in Mexico only. If your trip crosses the border, one of our regional plans covers Mexico, the USA and Canada.
Is there 5G in Mexico?
Yes, where the networks have built it, mostly in the big cities. Elsewhere you get 4G. You need a 5G phone to use it.
Can I keep my own number?
Yes. The eSIM carries data only. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls, texts and bank verification codes.
What if I run out of data?
Top up the same eSIM from My eSIMs while the plan is running. No new QR code, and the price is shown before you pay.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if the eSIM has never been installed. Once it is installed on a phone it cannot be refunded, because the profile is tied to that device.
