Three seats on the Parkway Schools school board were up for general election on April 8, 2014. Incumbents Chris Jacob, Dee Mogerman, and newcomer Deborah Hopper defeated challengers Tim Sauer and Wade R. Wieser for the three at-large seats.

Parkway Schools is located in St. Louis County, Mo.

Parkway Schools is located in east-central Missouri in St. Louis County. The county seat of St. Louis County is Clayton. St. Louis County had a population of 1,001,444 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau in 2014.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Parkway Schools was the 10th-largest school district in Missouri and served 17,363 students.[2]

Demographics

In 2013, St. Louis County had a higher percentage of residents with a bachelor's degree compared to the state overall. The United States Census Bureau reported that 40.6 percent of residents aged 25 and older in the county had earned a bachelor's degree, compared with 26.2 percent for Missouri. The median household income in St. Louis County was $58,910, higher than the state median of $47,380. The poverty rate in the county was 10.9 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for Missouri as a whole.[1]

Voter and candidate information

As of the 2014 election, the Parkway school board consisted of seven members elected at-large to three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 8, 2014, for three seats. Two seats were on the ballot in 2015.

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on December 17, 2013. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was January 21, 2014, and the deadline for candidate certification was January 28, 2014.[4]

The Missouri National Education Association endorsed incumbents Dee Mogerman, Chris Jacob, and challenger Wade R. Wieser in this election.[5]
