ACW rule comparisons

This post takes a very small action of a Confederate regiment attacking a Union regiment that is defending some higher ground and looks how four different sets of rules treats the situation.

It is not so much a serious analytical post, rather, it is just a bit of fun that highlights some differences and allowed a bit of wargame action on a self indulgent Saturday afternoon - and why not!

ACW - short smart action

Just 4 units per side on a symmetrical battlefield - it was my intention to do a Don Featherstone post next, but I am one painted unit shy away from being able to put that on ..... so I took his battlefield and had a small game using the Perry's Firepower rules instead.

These are the figures from the Perry 28mm ACW Battle in a Box and I was rather shocked when looking over previous posts, that I have owned this kit set since November 2015 and despite one million promises to myself to get them all painted, the job is still not quite complete.

Anyway, that goal came one step closer this holiday weekend, with the Union cavalry unit painted and based and so here we are, a small game with the Perry rules.

Battle at the Blogger Farms

What have February 2015, May 2016 and September 2018 got in common? - why, to get my 28mm ACW Perry starter set up and running of course! :)

I am back at this, being somewhat inspired by what Matt Crump has been doing over on his blog, (‘Wargames in the Dungeon’ the link is in the resource Section Below), so here we go again, but this time with a couple of changes in process that will hopefully allow more success this time at seeing this project through ..... I mean how hard can it be :-)

This post discusses yet another attempt to get the game set done and presents a first action, which itself gives a grateful nod to the world of blogging.

Perry ACW 28mm rules - Firepower

The new Perry 28mm ACW ‘Battle in a Box’ package contains a set of easy / fast play rules called Firepower and while I have not got around to painting my lovely 28mm figures yet, I though I would give the rules a spin using my existing Kallistra 12mm ACW armies, which are based on 40mm frontages, just to try things out.
