DECORATING TIME #2

 Hello dear Friends!

Every year I look forward to
getting out my angel
collection.  I don't buy anymore
now as I have plenty.

They are certainly some
of my favorite decorations and
are predominately by Nicol Sayre.

At couple years back, I made the
Ephemera Nativity piece
below left.

What's not to love
about decorating
for Christmas?

More to come......

BAKE A LOVELY CARROT CAKE

Yesterday I baked a Carrot Cake.
I had been sewing downstairs and
at about 3:30 pm I thought I'm
going to quit and go bake something.
Do you love to bake?

As you can see the cake was quickly
cut and enjoyed after dinner.
Several pieces went to Senior neighbors
and slices were frozen for another
day down the road.

This cake is really so easy to make and
requires 4 cups of grated carrots, 4 eggs,
1 Cup vegetable oil, 2 cups flour,
2 cups sugar, 2 tsp baking powder and
1 cup chopped walnuts for the cake
body.  Always mix the dry ingredients
first and then add the eggs and oil.
We are talking 350 degrees for
baking 30 minutes in a regular oven
or 25 minutes convection oven.

The icing was wonderful too and easy.
1 pkg 8 Oz cream cheese, 4 Tb butter,
1 3/4 Cups of Confectioners Sugar,
1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp vanilla
all mixed together and then another
1/2 cup walnuts sprinkled on top.

This week I had fun making some little
Ephemera Thanksgiving cards:

To me the Canadians have a better
situation in that they have their
Thanksgiving in October and move
on to decorating for Christmas.

I also made an ephemera Thanksgiving
medallion for my kitchen
window:
We had a rainy night and now
a very windy day so staying in
seems quite delightful.

DECORATING FOR CHRISTMAS #3

On this 3rd day I am sharing
just a few more decorations.
I love getting out the Ephemera
paper ornaments:

I see I have issues with my blog on all
my old posts and in the sidebar below.
I am guess that is related to when I
changed my blog link address back a few years ago as I didn't want to pay for a
 domain name anymore in retirement.
I love technology but not some days!
Maybe I will work on that this winter
 when things are slower.

I hope you are enjoying this season
of decorating and baking and crafting.
I have been enjoying trying some new
recipes and pulling out quite a few
past Christmas recipes.

Of course, some snow would sure
make things more festive here.

In all these years, I have never
made the candy called Christmas
Peppermint Bark.  I definitely
want to try that one this year.

DECORATING FOR CHRISTMAS #2

It's always a happy time when the
red transferware comes out for
Christmas.

I was never a red person but I have to say
collecting red transferware has sure caused
me to love it.

Fresh greenery is always so wonderful:

I have shown you these same decorations
over the years....

Last year I had fun making
some Ephemera paper ornaments
and I hope to be able to do some more
tree ornaments this year but where does
time go when one loves to sew and bake
and do crafts?

When I was young I never left the
furniture in the same spot.....maybe
I need to think about that again!

Just like many of you,
I love Christmas books:

A REAL PIONEER WOMAN IN BOONVILLE

I have shared several posts about a town
west of Columbia called Boonville and
a town east of here called Fulton.
Today my husband and I went over to
Boonville to the Visitors Center.  The
town along the Missouri River
 is now 200 years old.

When we ride over to Boonville , I usually take photos of the old Victorian and Edwardian homes and their gardens.

I have posted some of these before here on
my blog but today the with the colors of
the leaves - everything was aglow:

I took these photos from in
inside of our car.

I always admire this Bed and Breakfast:

It looks like it has a new name
and a fresh new look.

What I want to share about now
is the fascinating story about the
real life pioneer woman who
first settled there.  Her name was
Hannah Cole.  I have read all the
documents I could find about her on
line and I am in awe about her
personal quality of endurance.

Hannah was actually originally from Virginia as I also am.  Here is her story if you would
like to read all the many details about her.  I would not have made a very good pioneer woman myself because I don't like to be cold.  How this woman raised 9 children
without a husband is absolutely amazing.

A few weeks ago I was on a crafting roll
and created some Ephemera for a few of the history centers in nearby towns for them to sell.   Here are the ones I made about
 Hannah
Cole for Boonville:

No photo was ever taken of photo but that
is a photo of her youngest son,
Samuel, when he
was old.

I have visited Roslyn Heights before
and taken photos so I made these
for them:

These were for our Boone County
History and Culture Center and depict
one of the first families who built
 Maplewood House here
in 1877, the Lenoir's.  their
daughter, Lavinia married Dr. Frank
Nifong who founded the local
Boone Hospital.

And lastly this was one of the ones
I did for the
Churchill Museum in Fulton:

It always feels good when
 something
is done.

MEDALLIONS FOR VALENTINE'S DAY, TEA ROOMS AND FOR FUN

The last few weeks I have been working
at making some paper ephemera medallions
I have 2 large ones and 6 small ones done.
I hope you can check them out.

I have spent a lot of time on these.

Some are Valentines, others are
Queen Victoria themed and others
are French - Eiffel Tower themed.
I am sending this one to a sweet
young friend in Colorado Springs:

And this one will go to another former customer
and friend who lives in Woodland Park, Colorado.
She will be very surprised to hear from me:
