Christmas K-9 Unit Heroes

GIVEAWAY

WORTH, LENORA
LEE, KATY
CHRISTMAS K-9 UNIT HEROES

Danger comes to Denver for the holidays...in these thrilling Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit novellas.

With veterinarian Sydney Jones being targeted, K-9 Officer Gavin Walker and his furry partner must stand between her and certain death in Lenora Worth's Hidden Christmas Danger. And the clock is ticking in Silent Night Explosion by Katy Lee -- but can Jodie Chen trust the newest K-9 officer, Victor Abrams, and his dog to find a bomb and keep her alive...despite Victor's shadowed past?

My Review:

Happy/sad to have reached the end of this fantastic continuity series, but I guess, if it had to end this is the perfect way to wrap it up. Two strong novellas from stellar authors deliver intense suspense and toe-curling romance in just the right doses. Oh, and memorable K-9s too, of course!

There's a stalkerish vibe to Lenora Worth's 'Hidden Christmas Danger.' Love that Gavin and Sydney are already friends so the leap into romance is very plausible given the amount of time they spend together as he protects her. You might say that their 'friendship only barrier' slowly crumbles to dust as danger mounts.

And we get some previous heroes/heroines cameos as well. But the one thing I will mention is that there's a major spoiler for the suspense in book 7, "Explosive Revenge" featuring Tyson and Skylar, so, if you're intending to read that one, skip Worth's novella until after you've read book 7.

Katy Lee dialled up the angst in 'Silent Night Explosion', both with the suspense and the romance as well the hero's backstory. She had me rooting for misunderstood Victor right from the start. I wanted to shake Jodie for not trusting him but she had her (annoying) reasons so I got it. Love the roll grace brings to this story and the way the whole team rallies around by the end. A truly spectacular mini grand finale for the series. :-)

I enjoyed listening to the audible edtion of this book. Both Vanessa Daniels and Nancy Wu delivered captivating performances. I even fangirled a bit when I recognized Nancy Wu's voice from her narrations of the Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series by Margaret Mizushima!

Goal Update: #5 Diversify my reading, #6 Stay current with a series.

The Memory Quilt

GIVEAWAY

WORTH, LENORA
THE MEMORY QUILT

Running a historic Inn on beautiful Shadow Lake is a satisfying life for the Amish King sisters. Until love stirs a longing for more...

When Abigail King stumbles upon a man lying on the beach near her family inn, her every instinct says to help the stranger. With his memory gone, "Jonah" is reluctant to contact the authorities, so Abigail offers him shelter, despite her sisters' reservations. As she nurses him back to health, Abigail helps him recover his lost pst, creating a quilt from images of the shattered fragments he recalls. But with every square Abigail adds, she wonders if she is falling for a man who can never truly be hers...

Jonah feels at home at The Shadow Lake Inn with the lovely Abigail, at peace with the Amish lifestyle she lives. But as the pieces of his past are sewn together, the mystery only deepens -- until he knows the only way forward is to turn himself in to the police, to finally discover the truth of who he really is. For the one thing worse than not knowing his past, is not knowing what the future holds for him and Abigail...

My Review:

Though I'ver read a number of books by Lenora Worth this is my first foray into her Amish fiction. I was immediately drawn into Abigail's quandary in the opening scene. It isn't every day an Amish woman discovers an unconscious man washed up on her beach. :-) From that moment on there's a delicious 'forbidden' tension zinging between Abigail and her mystery man. She doesn't know anything about him other than that he's a wounded Englischer with amnesia and Abigail has always been the King sister to take in strays.

The heart of the story is in the impossible kinship that develops between Abigail and her "Jonah" despite the impossibility of romance. They are from two different worlds even if he doesn't remember his! Loved the King family and the inn backdrop which makes a great intro to the series. At least, I'm assuming that since there are three sisters we're going to get three love stories in this Shadow Lake series.

The mystery of Jonah's past kept me turning pages but I wouldn't categorize The Memory Quilt as romantic suspense. There's a bit of action and danger at the end but mostly this is a sweet Amish love story with a very unique twist.

Christmas K-9 Protectors

GIVEAWAY

WORTH, LENORA
BLACK, MAGGIE
CHRISTMAS K-9 PROTECTORS

Danger awaits in the icy winter shadows in two Alaskan K-9 Unit Christmas novellas.

Forensic scientist Tala Ekho and K-9 state trooper Ian McCaffrey investigate a thief whose deadly agenda begins with jewels...and ends with murder in Maggie K. Black's Holiday Heist. And in Lenora Worth's Alaskan Christmas Chase, criminal psychologist Mallory Haru, tech whiz Eli Partridge and a traumatized K-9 must keep a teen out of the hands of a robbery gang.

Alaska K-9 Unit

My Review

I'm all about the cover love when it comes to this book. I mean, really, what's better than one dog on the cover? Two, that's what! And I was super excited to see that these novellas feature two members of the support team we've encountered in the other books. While these novellas bring us to the end of Alaska K-9 Unit series, they can easily be enjoyed as standalone reads so if you're looking for something short and snappy during these hectic festive times this would be a good fit.

Tala rocks in Holiday Heist -- Black did an amazing job of capturing all the idiosyncrasies that make Tala so great at her job as a forensic scientist. I was yo-yoing between hearty guffaws and stunned admiration all the way through. Cadaver dog Aurora (perfect Alaskan name but almost too pretty for a dog who finds dead people.lol) makes for a stalwart secondary heroine who definitely won my heart with her dedicated K-9 zeal and winsome fluffy empathy. And, of course, Ian, dunderhead though he might have been in high school, definitely screams hero material now. So -- eeepppp -- an almost second chance romance because Ian and Tala were best friends from kindergarten until that fateful day their senior year in high school....

Solid suspense, a stuttering romance and a light touch of Christmas makes for a satisfying read.

Then we have Alaskan Christmas Chase - Happy sigh, there's something about a nerd hero with hidden depths that ups my heartbeat every time. :-) Eli rocks as a tech whiz and a wilderness survivalist and both talents come in handy when he and Mallory wind up on a villainous gang's hitlist. Loved the unique twist of both hero and heroine not being law enforcement officers and even their K-9 partner is 'on leave' as he recovers from a traumatic incident so Worth upends the usual tropes in this nail-biting suspense. There's tons of action, lots of danger and some nifty twists as Eli and Mallory face down relentless adversaries with quick wit and quirk...and a little help from the Alaska K-9 team. Very light on the Christmas angle, so could easily be read as a cozy winter read too.

Deadly Connection

GIVEAWAY
WORTH, LENORA
DEADLY CONNECTION

Hidden enemies can be deadly. But the Brooklyn K-9 Unit is on the case.

On her way to question US Marshal Emmett Gage about a DNA match that implicates his relative in a cold case and a recent murder, Officer Belle Montera's attacked. Now she and her K-9 partner must team up with Emmett to find his cousin and the person after Belle. But can they figure out who's targeting her without becoming murder victims themselves?

True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn

My Review:

I absolutely love this K-9 continuity series -- and that includes the gorgeous canine centered covers! Meet German Shepherd Justice who stays by Belle's side through a harrowing week of threats and violent attacks. With a partner like that, how could she not succeed? Plus there's a certain US Marshal who has taken a personal interest in unofficial protective duty. Cue the fangirling swoons. :-)

Love the dynamics between these two. They are both excellent at their jobs and there's a bit of push/pull over Emmett's desire to protect while acknowledging Belle's professional aptitude. A very realistic look at the challenges two law enforcement officers in a relationship might have.

Great secondary characters add extra zest to the story. Belle's family is a delight -- large, noisy and opinionated with open arms and welcoming hearts. And getting to catch up with the Brooklyn K-9 Unit made me happy.

Deadly Connection can be read as a standalone, by the way, though there is an over-arcing suspense plot that is building to a conclusion by the last book. The author does a great job of setting the stage for that suspense while delivering another suspense plot that gets resolution in this story. So you'll be satisfied and intrigued and eager to reach for the next True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn book which releases in July. The great thing about this series is that a new book is published every month so you don't have long to wait to get your next K-9 fix.

Deep Undercover

GIVEAWAY
WORTH, LENORA
DEEP UNDERCOVER

A dangerous undercover assignment...
Another exciting True Blue K-9 Unit thriller

To take down a serial bomber, NYPD K-9 officers Brianne hayes and Gavin Sutherland must go undercover -- as a married couple. But now the bomber is targeting them to halt the investigation. As the clock ticks down, can Brianne, Gavin and their K-9 partners find the culprit in time to save the city -- and their own lives?

My Review:

Whew! What a gripping opening scene! Vivid descriptions of a panicking crowd left me hyperventilating! Not one, but two, K-9 officers (and their humans!) to the rescue.

I'm loving this True Blue K-9 Unit continuity series. Deep Undercover is the fourth book but can be read as a standalone. However, I'm really bonding with this team of K-9 Officers and their elite dogs so it's always a thrill to meet up with the gang in each book.

This time it's Tommy and Stella's turn to sniff out clues and bring criminals to justice...well, they do get a little help from Gavin and Brianne. :-) If only the humans got along as well as their dogs though!

Gavin's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Ambition and pride have caused him some trouble in the past. He's trying to live that down but Brianne doesn't always make it easy for him since she's a tad guarded and a whole lot prickly. She also has a tendency to react defensively as she sets out to prove that female officers are just as capable as their male counterparts. Gavin totally gets that, but it doesn't stop him from going into protective mode now and again which drives Brianne crazy because -- hello, she's a cop too! Love the dynamics between this hero and heroine. Almost as gnarly as the suspense!

Another page-turning addition to this stunning series!

Rescue Operation

GIVEAWAY
WORTH, LENORA
RESCUE OPERATION

Racing to rescue a child
Danger heats up in the Military K-9 Unit series

A little boy is missing and i'ts up to search-and-rescue K-9 handler Ava Esposito and her dog to find him...before the Red Rose Killer does. FBI special agent Oliver Davison is hot on the trail of the escaped convict and joins forces with Ava. But when the killer turns his crosshairs on them, Oliver must protect them all before time runs out.

My Review:

Things are heating up in the desperate search for serial killer Boyd Sullivan and his elusiveness is driving me mad!!!! This is the fifth book in the Military K-9 Unit continuity series and we are still no closer to nabbing this loathsome villain. These series usually run to six books but this one goes clear through until December so we are months away from any real resolution. Gah!

In this installment we get to know Ava and Oliver better...and wonder-dog Roscoe, of course, who does his canine team proud with his valiant service. I mean, seriously, he rappels out of a helicopter! (with a little help from Ava, but still.) I love how this series highlights the different kinds of service the K-9 soldiers provide.

You might think that FBI and Military don't mix, what with fighting over jurisdiction and all, but while Oliver and Ava might nitpick over some things, they are professional enough to put the monumental task of stopping the Red Rose Killer ahead of any disagreements. Love the way they come together for the greater good -- both strong in their chosen field but respectful of the other.

And unlike most heroes and heroines, these two talk to each other! I think that's my favourite part of the romance. They are upfront with their feelings -- both the attraction they feel for each other and the reasons they pull back. There's still lots of tension, but it's out in the open and we all understand what's at stake and why it's so hard for them to battle through their pasts. It was refreshing to see how they dealt with the knowledge -- their capacity to understand and eventually, move forward.

And now I'm on tenterhooks for book 6 -- Explosive Force by Lynette Eason -- which is teetering on the top of my TBR pile right now. Happy sigh.

Tracker

GIVEAWAY
WORTH, LENORA
TRACKER

Single mother Penny Potter has spent months in hiding to keep her toddler from his father, a rogue FBI agent turned fugitive. But he's determined to flee the country with the child, and she can't dodge him forever. When he corners Penny in the Montana wilderness and gets away with their son, she's forced to trust his brother, handsome FBI K-9 agent Zeke Morrow. And Zeke must decide where his loyalty lies: with his sibling or the woman he wasn't supposed to fall for. As the bullets fly and family ties are tested, Penny and Zeke will fight to save the boy who brought them together.

Classified K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners.

My Review:

Woohoo -- it's the Grande Finale of the Classified K-9 Unit continuity series. And while you could likely read this one as a standalone there's lots of tying up loose ends in Tracker that will be more meaningful if you've been following along book by book. Like what's up with Zara for instance. I kept wondering if that was a set up for a new series or if we'd finally get answers by the end of this one. Yay for answers. And kudos to Lenora Worth for bringing the pieces together in such a compelling fashion.

A complicated romance between the two people closest to Jake is just that -- complicated! So much history to sift through, trust to gain and a past to be dealt with once and for all. And that can only happen if Jake is brought to justice. Taut, fast-paced suspense adds an air of desperation to a seemingly doomed love story. And Cheetah the Australian shepherd and tracker extraordinaire is just icing on the cake. Awesome conclusion to a fabulous series.

Truth and Consequences

GIVEAWAY

WORTH, LENORA
TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES

The protector's mission...

Honoring a promise to a fallen comrade, former army medic David Evans heads to Arizona to check up on the soldier's sister. But as his train pulls into Desert Valley, David witnesses a drug run gone wrong and narrowly avoids the bullets flying his way. And when the police show up, he discovers the investigating officer is the woman he's supposed to look after. With a fiercely protective K-9 partner and a new badge, Whitney Godwin insists she can take care of herself and her infant daughter. But the criminals want both David and Whitney permanently silenced, so David will stop at nothing to protect the family he years to join.

Rookie K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest case with the help of their brave canine partners

My Review:

It's official. I adore this series. And my favourite characters are the dogs. :-) Hunter stole my heart (dog not hero.) Though David is pretty hard to resist too. He inherited the protective gene and he's a man on a mission even though Whitney would rather he leave the policing up to her and K-9 partner Hunter. I really enjoyed the role reversal with the police officer heroine working the case. That doesn't stop David from having her back -- whether she likes it or not. Great dynamics that increase the intensity in their relationship. In some ways they are just too much alike -- stubborn and strong, both needing to be in control. They have to learn to trust -- in God and each other -- before they have a chance at a happily ever after.

This is the second book in the Rookies K-9 Unit continuity series. It reads fine as a standalone, but you'll get the most out of the overlapping suspense thread if you've read the first book as well. David and Whitney do have full closure and solve their case -- but there's still some mysteries to be solved and I'm eager to see it all play out in future books.

CAPITOL K-9 UNIT CHRISTMAS

Danger strikes at Christmastime

Protecting Virginia by Shirlee McCoy

When foster care worker Virginia Johnson inherits her abusive late husband's family home, she's desperate to sell it before Christmas. But a mysterious intruder doesn't want her in the house. Terrified, Virginia turns to her neighbor, Capitol K-9 Unit officer John Forrester, and his four-legged partner, to keep her alive to see the New Year.

Guarding Abigail by Lenora Worth

Capitol K-9 Unit officer Dylan Ralsey's new mission: protect a murdered diplomat's daughter while she's in the nation's capitol. But when an attempt is made on Abigail Wheaton's life, Dylan and his trusty canine partner must keep her safe from a murderer who wants to ruin everyone's holiday.

Capitol K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners.

My Review:

Protecting Virginia by Shirlee McCoy -- Seriously hair-raising opening. My heart revved up a notch and I felt like I was the one alone in that big ol' spooky house. Phew, McCoy packs a lot of danger and tension in a short word count. Along with the stirrings of a sweet holiday romance. Awesome combo.

Guarding Abigail by Lenora Worth -- A riveting read. Officer Tico (the dog) stole my heart just a smidgen before Dylan did. The perils of being a hero in a K-9 story -- at least with me as the reader. :-) Worth packs a complex plot in this cat-and-mouse suspense that kept me turning pages right to the end. A delicious treat of a holiday read.

Proof of Innocence

GIVEAWAY

WORTH, LENORA
PROOF OF INNOCENCE

Innocent fugitive

Erin Eagleton has been on the run for months after her ex-boyfriend was killed in front of her. She escaped from the killer once, but the police consider her a prime suspect. She is determined to prove her innocence and bring down the real criminal…before he finishes the job. Her high school sweetheart, Capitol K-9 officer Chase Zachary, has been searching for her with his trusty police dog. Now that he's found her, he vows to keep her safe at all costs. He'll stop at nothing to reveal the truth—and to protect the woman he's never forgotten.

Capitol K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners.

My Review:

The sixth and last book in the Capitol K-9 continuity series and it's a doozy! This is the one I've been waiting for since the very first story. I knew Erin was innocent, despite the evidence building against her and I adored Chase for adamantly championing her in the other books. LOL. Yes, I might just take my reader involvement to a whole different level from most folks. But really, I was euphoric to finally get to 'meet' Erin and she's everything I thought she would be -- and more. A stubbornly determined woman with enough grit and gumption to manage to stay ahead of her killer for months. All while accumulating information to clear her name.

Chase has been just as determined to find her -- not to arrest her  though -- he wants to help prove her innocence.  A true hero championing her cause. And, honestly, Erin's at her breaking point when he finds her. Action and mayhem ensue, with danger lurking in unlikely places. Proof of Innocence kept me on my toes right to the end. A glorious conclusion to an awesome series.

Oh -- and no worries if you've missed the other books. This one reads well as a standalone, though it does post major spoilers from the previous stories.

Spring Brides : Three Novellas

GIVEAWAY

HAUCK, RACHEL
WORTH, LENORA
MOSELEY, MEG
SPRING BRIDES : THREE NOVELLAS

Happily ever after begins today. The honor of your presence is requested at three spring weddings ...

A March Bride by Rachel Hauck
Susanna Truitt (Once Upon a Prince) is three weeks from royalty. She'll soon marry King Nathaniel II of Brighton Kingdom. But when the government insists she renounce her American citizenship before the wedding, coupled with the lack of involvement by family and friends, Susanna's heart begins to doubt whether this marriage is God's plan for her.

An April Bride by Lenora Worth
Bride-to-be Stella Carson cannot wait another day to marry soldier Marshall Henderson. But when Marshall returns home to Louisiana, it becomes clear to them both that he is not the man he used to be. With only weeks until the wedding, Stella and Marshall must choose between a marriage built on the past and faith in long-ago love or a very different future than the one Stella imagined.

A May Bride by Meg Moseley
Ellie Martin, a country girl living in Atlanta, has dreamed of a traditional wedding all her life, but she's missing a key ingredient to her plans for the future: a groom. Then Ellie meets Gray Whitby-at a wedding of all places. But when Ellie jeopardizes her own future for the sake of her sister, Gray feels like he'll always be second to Ellie's family. Can Ellie and Gray find their own way together amidst the demands and perceptions of others, or will their romance end before it has truly begun?

My Review:

These novellas were originally released as individual ebooks in 2014. I love that Zondervan has compiled the whole year's worth into four books, divided by season. Hoorah for this spring collection -- not only because the stories are completely captivating, but because it brought the hope of spring as well.

A March Bride by Rachel Hauck -- Amazing! I haven't read Once Upon a Prince but I got right into the story without any problem. I think fans of the book will get an even bigger thrill out of this little hiccup in Nathaniel and Susanna's love story. It is rife with angst as they struggle to mesh their lives and expectations. A beautiful and profound faith message makes this an even richer read.

An April Bride by Lenora Worth -- This one really tugged at my heart. Such a huge subject to tackle in a novella and yet the author does an incredible job of creating a deep and moving love story around very complicated circumstances. I can't say more without posting spoilers but this novella really made an impact on me.

A May Bride by Meg Moseley -- A memorable (and very creative) first meet had me grinning. I knew right away that Ellie and Gray were meant for each other, but Moseley takes them on a bumpy ride to matrimony. There's grit and angst aplenty as these two learn to give more than take as they face the dynamics of becoming a couple.

Risky Reunion

WORTH, LENORA
RISKY REUNION

As a novice FBI agent, Jackson McGraw was deeply touched by the young single mother -- a murder witness -- in his protective custody. When her baby girl was almost killed, Eloise fled -- selflessly leaving her child in his care with a note to find her a good Christian home. Now, twenty years later, the mob is obsessed with retaliation against the woman whose testimony imprisoned their late don. Jackson is determined to track Eloise down to protect her -- and reclaim two decades' worth of love.

AT LAST -- JACKSON'S STORY!!!! HE HAS BEEN THE COMMON LINK THROUGH EVERY BOOK IN THE SERIES AND I THINK THE AUTHORS DID A GREAT JOB OF GRADUALLY FEEDING US BITS OF INFORMATION ABOUT HIM, BUILDING INTEREST WITH EACH SUBSEQUENT BOOK. I WAS DEFINITELY READY FOR JACKSON'S STORY -- AND HIS REUNION WITH ELOISE. THIS IS A GREAT, ACTION-PACKED, SUSPENSE-RIDDLED CONCLUSION TO THE PROTECTING THE WITNESS SERIES.

OH...AND THERE'S A MAJOR CLUE IN BOOK FIVE, FATAL SECRETS, THAT COMES TO LIGHT IN THIS LAST BOOK AND I ACTUALLY PICKED UP ON IT. I KNEW THAT IT WAS SIGNIFICANT BUT THE CHARACTERS, KRISTEN AND ZANE JUST WEREN'T CLUED IN ENOUGH -- EVEN THOUGH I KEPT HOLLERING AT THEM TO PAY ATTENTION AND TELL SOMEBODY!!!! BUT DID THEY LISTEN TO ME? NO! THANKFULLY, SOMETHING JOGGED ZANE'S MEMORY IN RISKY REUNION AND THINGS STARTED FALLING INTO PLACE AFTER HE TOLD JACKSON. FINALLY!!!!
