$60. Not bad; but I'm sure with inflation, it's more than double.
So, do these sets still work? I know old RCX is very difficult to make work on Windows 10.
These were cool.
Spybotics, bought to you by the Entertainer
“High tech robots for today’s secret agent”
Classic.
Gonna use this opportunity to remind everyone of how great the Spybotics browser game (The Nightfall Incident) was and still is.
@Brickwright: Yes!!! But also the sets themselves.
I don't remember Spybotics (was during my dark age) . . . so what did it do for 60 bucks? That seems expensive even for today.
Revolutionary! ...and what a great price!
@SinKiller_Nick: Spybots could either be programmed with predefined missions or with custom programs Mindstorms-style, then operated by remote control. From a technical standpoint the missions were implemented pretty simply but they offered a lot of play value. Some missions required cooperation between multiple Spybots, thereby increasing the cost. But compared to RIS 2.0? I'd say the 60 bucks was a great entry price.
Back when my cousins had pocket money and I didn't, one of them had two sets from this line. I was so jealous, but I did think they were really slow. I'm curious how RC and Mindstorms aficionados think these hold up today.
I got the red one as a gift. I remember the screws on the remote. They were looong. It was a chore to change the batteries. Not very functional as a set though.
I only remember the Spybotics sets gathering dust for a long time on the shelves of most toy stores here where I live. Those sets were crazily expensive.
Seeing the title got me confused for a while until I figured out I misread the label and Lego in fact still did not make any sets based on Sumerian mythology.
@SirZed same here...
Never heard of this theme. Due to being in my Dark Ages at the time.
Looks cool though.
Anyone know whether this was sold in Germany at all?
@SirZed
The Epic of Gigamesh is my favorite ancient text.
These were always curious to me at the time, but I wasn't sure exactly what they were supposed to be about - the marketing I saw for them kind of skimmed over that 'unimportant' fact - so I never considered getting one. What sort of 'missions' did they actually do?
@SirZed
You got to it first.
I thought it was referring to Smurfs... nope, wait... I'm thinking of Gargamel. I'm also curious as to what "missions" these things could do (although as a Retired Secret Agent I no longer have need for such gadgets). Also thinking the drive system of this thing isn't complicated enough, and could use a few more gears and wheels ;)
At first I thought it was Galidor.
I think this is the most general confusion as to what a set is that I've seen in RSotD.
@BionicleJedi: Mostly just obstacle courses or retrieving some object, IIRC. I never owned a Spybot, but I did look at some of the missions.
I had this one! Cool little RC vehicle
This does look pretty cool but I still don't understand how it works
is the software still usable? or are these just parts packs, now?
