Review: 75937 Triceratops Rampage
Posted by CapnRex101,Jurassic World sets typically focus upon military vehicles capturing evasive dinosaurs but 75937 Triceratops Rampage is very distinctive, instead featuring some park attractions. The functional Egg Spinner ride appears especially interesting within official images.
However, dinosaurs remain the centrepiece on Isla Nublar and the exclusive Triceratops is exceptionally appealing. Seven years have passed since this creature was last available at minifigure scale and its colour scheme is unique. This set includes 447 pieces and the price of £54.99 or $59.99 has therefore elicited some concern but I hope its value surpasses my expectations.
Minifigures
Despite his prevalence across the Jurassic World theme, this version of Owen Grady only otherwise appears in 75938 T. rex vs. Dino-Mech Battle. The light bluish grey shirt is nicely decorated, featuring some creases and open buttons. This design seems reminiscent of the character's introduction within the 2015 movie, although that shirt was closer to white.
This minifigure also features dark blue trousers with an intricate reddish brown belt while the double-sided head includes cheerful and determined expressions. Owen's facial hair looks excellent too and the medium nougat hair piece is lovely. Unusually, this minifigure lacks any tranquilising weapons but carries a carrot for guiding the herbivorous Triceratops back into captivity and away from civilians.
Simon Masrani appeared during Jurassic World and his corresponding figure was available in 75915 Pteranodon Capture. This example is very different though, wearing an elegant dark blue suit which is brand new. Furthermore, his double-sided head has been updated and now displays two smiles rather than the happy and frightened expressions that appeared on the minifigure from 2015.
Additional new elements have been created for Allison Miles, who works alongside Dr. Henry Wu in developing new dinosaur attractions for the park. The medium nougat head seems notably appealing, featuring alternative smiling and terrified facial expressions along with glasses. This torso is also new and includes an identification badge beside realistic creasing on both sides of her jacket.
Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar focuses upon Jurassic World before its devastation during the 2015 movie. Tourists therefore populate the park and this set contains one such character who looks marvellous, featuring an impressive torso component that appeared in 60202 People Pack - Outdoor Adventures last year but now incorporates light flesh hands.
In addition, this head returns from 75952 Newt's Case of Magical Creatures and includes an excited smile on one side while the other seems appropriately concerned. The dark brown hair piece is fairly uncommon as well, having appeared just in six previous sets. I think this generic minifigure has been executed effectively and the tourist comes with an ice cream cone which is perfect.
The Completed Model
LEGO has produced various renditions of Triceratops and this example features components created for 5885 Triceratops Trapper. Its shape seems accordingly realistic and the dinosaur measures nearly 18cm in length which is accurate when compared with minifigures. However, the colour scheme of tan, olive green and dark brown is unique and I think it looks brilliant, improving upon the previous dark tan and reddish brown tones.
The head includes exceptional moulded detail, featuring prominent horns and epoccipitals around the frill. The light bluish grey beak and horns feel slightly softer than standard LEGO plastic but they have been integrated nicely and the printed decoration looks wonderful, particularly around the yellow eyes and the frill where printed streaks complement the moulded texture.
Furthermore, the head offers excellent articulation so the Triceratops can comfortably reach grass or small shrubs. The legs are also connected using click hinges and the lack of ankle joints seems fairly inconsequential here because this dinosaur can stand on two feet. I love the speckled designs on the hips too, disguising pins which join the external leg components to the hinges underneath.
Similar decoration runs for the entire length of the Triceratops' body, as exhibited below. The tail does not include any articulation but looks lovely, completing another outstanding addition to the menagerie of dinosaurs living in Jurassic World. I hope some additional herbivorous creatures will be released for subsequent Jurassic World sets.
Vehicles always offer considerable play value and this set therefore contains an attractive quad bike, despite focusing predominantly upon park attractions. Its blue colour scheme matches other vehicles from the Jurassic World theme and I like the sticker which is applied above the bullbar, displaying the famous park logo from the movies.
The large wheels also look great, although their texture appears unusually smooth. However, there is plenty of room to seat a minifigure behind the handlebars and two accessories can be placed towards the back, on each side of the hitch point. Nothing is available to connect to that joint in this set but you could combine it with the trailer from 75935 Baryonyx Face-Off: The Treasure Hunt.
Dinosaurs across Jurassic World reside within electrified enclosures and previous sets have included stretches of fence. This example appears superficially similar to 75931 Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack, employing the same flexible tube that represents an electrified cable. These components look superb and the fence measures 25cm in length which is adequate, although more parts would be required to encircle the Triceratops.
Green and bright green foliage pieces are combined to good effect and I like the dark blue highlights too, matching earlier Jurassic World sets. The hinged design is pleasing and these clips can connect with other items in this set. Moreover, the trans-light blue holographic display about the Triceratops is marvellous because similar information boards appear during the recent films.
However, my favourite aspect of the fence is certainly its play functionality. One of the vertical Technic supports can be knocked over, causing the metallic silver hoses to collapse and allowing the dinosaur to escape. This feature has been integrated nicely and I appreciate the indicator light that can change from trans-green to trans-red. The orange electricity warning sign seems quite authentic too.
While the fence includes some enjoyable functions, this entrance archway for the Egg Spinner ride is wholly decorative. Nevertheless, I think it looks great. The monolithic shape seems reminiscent of the famous Jurassic Park gateway and these flaming torches provide some welcome colour. In addition, I like the Egg Spinner sticker above the entrance.
Dark tan curved plates form the bases for each smaller structure. These are decorated with light and dark bluish grey round tiles which look superb. Orange steps are provided to access the Egg Spinner gondolas alongside barriers, connecting those steps to the flanking signposts. I think the vivid orange colour stands out slightly too much, although matching strips are present on the ride structure.
Moreover, I like the green bin situated beside the steps and the taller signpost looks impressive. Four dark blue stickers are placed here, directing gusts to other attractions and making reference to 75934 Dilophosaurus on the Loose where the gift shop is available. 75929 Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape contains the Gyrosphere ride, leading me to wonder whether the museum might appear soon.
The steps cannot actually connect to this ride but their scale seems appropriate when they are placed near the eggs, as demonstrated below. In fact, these steps are designed to avoid interference with the geared mechanism visible beneath each gondola but joining them directly would have been preferable in my opinion.
Gray briefly mentions the Egg Spinner ride during Jurassic World, although its appearance was only established in Jurassic World: The Game. This model remains reasonably accurate to that depiction, taking inspiration from the egg incubators which appeared in the original Jurassic Park film. Its sleek aesthetic looks suitably futuristic for the environment and I like the colour scheme as well.
Nineteen stickers are used across this structure, forming the Jurassic World logo, orange stripes and speckled detail on the eggs. While fewer stickers would have been welcome, these designs are great and some interesting pieces are found here too. The decorative tan eggs, for instance, are only found in two sets while the orange wheel hub between those eggs was created for 75892 McLaren Senna in this colour.
Twisting the black dial situated behind the Egg Spinner ride will cause the gondolas to rotate around the central pillar and turn individually, like the teacups ride one may expect to find at any theme park. Medium azure 'splat' gears connect each egg to the pillar and the resultant function is outstanding in my opinion. Additionally, the colour of these gears appears consistent with the source material.
Overall
New dinosaurs are consistently the highlight of Jurassic World sets and 75937 Triceratops Rampage certainly fulfils that requirement. While these animals have been available before, several years have passed since the Triceratops last appeared and this new colour scheme looks magnificent, improving upon the earlier example. The minifigures are quite appealing too, comprising some exclusive pieces.
Moreover, the surrounding attractions distinguish this set from others within the range and I think they have been designed extremely well. The collapsing fence is enjoyable and I love the Egg Spinner ride which functions perfectly. The price of £54.99 or $59.99 seems fairly expensive, based upon the piece count of 447 but I think the spectrum of potential for both play and display justifies this cost, along with the substantial Triceratops.

A carrot is certainly the most logical option.
Great set, I will definitely combine the fence with the Dilophosaur Outpost Attack as the side hinges seem able to clip on them therefore creating a better security for my Savage Land Imperial Base.
The fence looks like it could go well with a wrestling ring MOC. :)

Fly all the way to Costa Rica to a theme park filled with genetically-engineered previously-extinct animals, and obviously, the first thing you're going to do is enjoy the sideshow alley amusement park ride, am I right? ;)
I have this set and I love it!
I bought this last week (it was on sale, 40 instead of 60€), and I'm very happy with it. At that price, I definitely feel like I got my money's worth. I love the Triceratops, and you can't complain about 3 neat exclusive minifigures, and you just have to celebrate the occasion when there's a random female figure that's doesn't re-use the Jyn Erso face print for the 1000th time.
The only thing I rolled my eyes at was the amount of stickers, but what can you do.

The only bad things is the quad bike, very tired of this things, in every set you'll own one this...is definitely too much
They have two makeshift museums: the manor from the Fallen Kingdom line has a large museum section, and the brand new Dinosaur Fossils Ideas set definitely can double as a museum. I’m planning to add them together to make a very nice museum. The only thing it will be missing is the beautiful rare promotional t-rex released for the Fallen Kingdom line. Oh, if only that weren’t valued in the thousands...
Still feels like a "Pay 60€ to get a Triceratops" set. Ok, the fence offers at least some play-value.
