Review: 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut
Posted by CapnRex101,LEGO has produced several hundred Star Wars sets since 1999. However, numerous important subjects remain absent from the theme. 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut appears accordingly interesting as this humble dwelling has not been available within previous sets.
Important details from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope have been replicated here and the accompanying minifigures seem excellent too. Furthermore, the set contains an exclusive Princess Leia hologram piece and the celebrated training droid, hence I expect this model of Obi-Wan Kenobi's hut might prove very popular.
Minifigures
Similar minifigures depicting Luke Skywalker have appeared in numerous recent sets, featuring the same torso and legs on each occasion. These components are intricately detailed and compare very favourably with the source material, particularly around the knees where accurate bands appear. The double-sided head and hair piece also look reasonable so I see little justification for changes.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, by contrast, was updated in 75246 Death Star Cannon and that minifigure looked marvellous. This character lacks the dark brown hood and cape that appeared previously, although I like his shaded torso and bearded face. Printed legs would certainly have been welcome though and the hair component lacks texture. Blue lightsabers are provided for both minifigures.
Despite his prevalence within LEGO sets, comparatively few versions of R2-D2 have been released. This droid incorporates a new domed head, featuring larger logic function displays with an improved metallic silver holographic projector. The dark blue panels across the remainder of the head and the cylindrical body remain the same though, hence Artoo lacks printing on his back.
Princess Leia's desperate message for Obi-Wan Kenobi is particularly memorable and this trans-light blue hologram looks superb, capturing the proportions of standard minifigures and reflecting Emperor Palpatine's hologram element. An impressive training remote is included too. Three laser emitters are printed on each side of a minifigure head and the metallic silver highlights seem equally accurate.
Obi-Wan Kenobi rescues Luke from marauding Tusken Raiders and one Tusken Raider is therefore included. This magnificent head component was introduced with 75081 T-16 Skyhopper and features exceptional moulded detail, faithfully recreating their onscreen design. I love the rounded goggles and dark brown highlights along with the layered bandages.
While the head is shared with previous Tusken Raiders, this torso is brand new. The arrangement of reddish brown pouches has been changed and the moisture trap is completely omitted, matching the characters from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Nevertheless, I always welcome variation and the legs have been updated too. This minifigure wields a lethal gaffi stick, as usual.
The Completed Model
Obi-Wan Kenobi resides within an ancient hut while supervising Luke on Tatooine and this structure looks superb. The model contains various colourful details from the movie and measures 18cm wide when open, as shown below. This folding design works extremely well because there is ample space for minifigures while the hut is open and it appears faithful to the source material when closed.
While its external walls are predominantly tan, the interior of this building features white pieces which correspond with the movie and the furniture layout is perfect. Two reddish brown seats are positioned around the circular table, including one which is nestled into an alcove and looks great. The hologram appears similarly attractive and stands out against the surrounding earthy elements.
Several accessories are connected to the walls, including another gaffi stick and a wooden cane. The reddish brown crate is even more important though, storing Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber! This box is significantly larger than its onscreen counterpart but is accurately positioned and offers sufficient room for the training remote beside the lightsaber.
The opposite wall includes wonderful texture and some shelves where Tatooinian artefacts are kept. These accessories are not shown during the film but provide superb detail which matches the rest of Obi-Wan's hut. Furthermore, they can be disassembled to create a trans-clear support for the training remote which is very helpful.
Each section can fold inwards, creating an enclosed hut that resembles the Special Edition structure instead of the building from the theatrical version of Star Wars. The resultant model looks marvellous but feels remarkably small, measuring just 12cm wide and 11cm deep. I love the domed roof and this doorway appears consistent with other buildings on Tatooine, although the crate must be removed for access.
Intricate texturing continues across the exterior, accurately recreating its weathered onscreen design. The narrow windows seem similarly authentic and I appreciate the slopes around the base of this hut, suggesting that the structure is being swallowed by the desert. However, the black bracket behind the entrance keypad appears slightly awkward.
An archway forms the back of Obi-Wan Kenobi's house, revealing some of the white elements within and the cylindrical stove. This seems rather basic but corresponds with the movie and I like how light and dark bluish grey pieces are distributed across the exterior. Four clips surround the stove, offering storage for additional accessories or perhaps suggesting subsequent expansion for this hut, although that seems unlikely.
Overall
New subjects generally attract particular attention within the LEGO Star Wars range and 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut has already elicited considerable interest. Fortunately, this rendition of the dwelling looks superb, featuring numerous authentic details from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and capturing the shabby aesthetic of many buildings on Tatooine.
The minifigures do not necessarily stand out within the broader Star Wars theme, although they are appropriate for this scene. I expect the exclusive Princess Leia hologram and training remote will prove particularly popular. In fact, those elements may justify the price of £24.99 or $29.99 for some prospective purchasers. That price does seem rather expensive based upon the size of the hut but I would recommend this set, especially to those whose collections are focused upon the Original Trilogy.

Great set overall! It really reenacts the scene from the New Hope.
I,ve been expecting you... obi wan great little set I might pick it up, I like the new princess Leia hologram microfig too, well done lego!!
@CapnRex101 - I'm getting this for my Tatooine collection. Previously, microfigs like that come with a spare, can we hope for a spare in this set? I suspect not.
Can you believe we went 20 years without a set of Obi-Wan's hut?! Such an obvious gap in ANH's line-up.
Meanwhile, we have like, what, 3 AT-AP's and Droid Gunships? Now how about a new Speeder Chase set from Episode II? Please?
Is there an extra Lei hologram by chance? I can see that besides helping me with another desert home this helps me add another Tusken Raider to my collection, that will be 4 counting the two I already own plus the magnificent Bantha set and this one (T-16 Skyhopper and Jawas vs Tusken are the other where I have them).
Who else thinks R2 D2 could do with a redesign, including a detachable third leg? It has been essentially the same design for 20+ years.
Was wondering if there was going to be a review. Excellent review and thanks for informing us. Merry Christmas, Capn!
@SirBrick1 a back print would be appreciated
@donutboy and @Lordmoral - There is no spare Princess Leia hologram, unfortunately.
@SirBrick1 Totally agreed R2 needs a new design. It looks conspicuously dated these days. R2 units are pretty common in the line still, so a new mould would get a lot more mileage than something like Vader’s helmet.
@SirBrick1
I couldn’t agree more. It’s time to update the astromech body overall with a head that spins, a detachable third leg, thinner outer legs (with some printing from time to time) and regularly scheduled back printing.
Furthermore, the reliance on the airplane nap headpiece for Obi-Wan is very tiresome. Guinness’ s hair was shaggy, and it is time the hair piece reflect that. His hair color should change as well, as in the film it is much more white than grey, as is the beard. I’m not yet satisfied with Luke’s hair though it is really close.
The trainer...wonder why it is here? Did Ben carry this on to the Falcon? “Hey handsome...is that a Training Remote in your Jedi robes or are you just happy to get off this planet?” A soccer ball might have been a better shape, though how to suspend that in the air? No idea...
All these nitpicks don’t mean I’m not buying... ;)
Don't forget the carton of blue milk! :-D
A well-designed set for something that have been done before.
A rare current Star Wars set I'm definitely getting.
Actually managed to get this early when my local downtown (retail store in the uk) had this and the other 2020 star wars sets on the shelves a couple weeks ago

A shame, thanks for taking the time to respond us.
Lovely hut.
I hesitate since the first pics were available for this one. Still not sure to get it even after several reviews a d more pictures... Really want Leia's hologram and the training remote though, the latest one would fit perfectly in my MF to help Luke training his first light saber lesson and skills. Guess both will one day or another be available on Bricklink at a reasonable price?
I think a textured hair piece could have been done for Obi-Wan. The smoothness of his compared to Luke's looks a little odd.
@SirBrick1 I've been hoping for that for a long time, along with a rotating head and, as darthnorman said, printing on the back.
The huge missing wall with the white clips is seriously confusing me. There's no way it's not intended to be combined with another set, right? Especially with that double-grill buffer at the top. Maybe there'll be a second set for the Disney+ Kenobi series?

Uh I like the sound of that.
^^ Yeah, there is probably the space where Ben Kenobi makes his own clone army... or his own death star... or his own mega jedi-fleet of Mon Calamari cruisers. Or any other rubbish, Diznee can think up to retcon Star Wars into total obscurity.
@shirhac
You saw The Rise of Skywalker too?
It seems inappropriate with Tuskens in my sight.
I t could be more glad with Aunt Beru instead of the Sand people, Although it makes no sense too ;)
Nice review. Bad photos. The photos are much too bright. You can't see any contours in white areas. And the colours are also reproduced completely wrong....
I just finished building this set and it's pretty good IMO. Also R2 D2 does not have crooked printing on the dome piece which is a nice change. Most of my R2 D2's have crooked printing .....
