That hood is weirdly curvy for 2003
Huwbot, this is not a set for us to laugh at. Were you displeased with our merriment these past few days?
Disclaimer: Does not bust lands.
Ah, a beautiful, big, early Creator set. I like Lego using effectively those big curvy-pieces they produced en masse, back in the early 00s. Because a lot of the time, they didn't know how to use those properly, and it always looked off.
Love this truck! Still have mine (bought it new about 7-8 years ago).
It led me to getting these as well:

Yes! I bought all 3 as well!
Pretty slick for 2003 I gotta say, I like it.
looks too good for 2003, was there a database error?
It really looks nice. I checked the instructions and it seems the truck is build in a modular manner so that you can easily change the upper body with a single step, that is if you have enough pieces to build another body.
Funny coincidence . I am in the process of parting out two of these since Thursday. Have had success with the parts of 6 of those before! Very nice parts selection.
I actually very recently aquired and built this set! It is now the first in line (chronologically) of my collection of big Creator cars - and the only one using the old greys...
I think this was a LEGO set that Jamie Berard claimed looked so clean it didn't look like LEGO.
Love it. Have two.
That's not a small car set!
It's a great big car, in two ways of the word. And it uses those really new curve pieces surprisingly well. The wing mirrors look a bit fragile, but I think this could almost pass as a current Creator set.
I own this; as the other two. The helicopter is fantastic! I haven't built the boat yet. This one here is also really nice. And it is indeed modular. You first build the chassis (including a rather cool suspension mechanism) and then the body. So, in principle you can replace the body with some of your own MOC. It is big, indeed, and, yes, it looks somewhat clean. But I like it for that
Ugh,... I am one of those 996 members who owns this set. This set is a great parts pack for parts and for colours of those parts (lovely old dark grey)- The set’s main model structural integrity and no attempt at steering was deplorable which made it such a waste of time.
I wish lego would go back and fix this one.
I bought this set MISB in December last year. Nice set, a bit like modern "Model Team", but I found a little defect - the wheels turn in two directions. They also have no connection to the control system. It's a bit underdeveloped. What surprises me most is that the front wheels can rotate in the opposite direction. You could at least connect the front part of the suspension to each other, and it would be even better if you could control them with the steering wheel or the handle on the roof. Since there were no problems with this in the "Model Team", and 5580 came out in 1986, they could refine it more. After all, however, I think it is quite a successful set.
I collected creator large cars. Skipped this because of the yellow color. Interesting comments about it being modular. I also like the curvyness.
yellow car, the same day the Fiat 500 model is presented... Hmmm...
This set sort of marked the end of my dark ages in 2003.
Are those supposed to be spare tires in a much smaller size than the ones on the car?
I think Huwbot predicted the release of the next Lego car by selecting this as the random set of the day.
Wonderful set, day 1 purchase at the time. Way ahead of its time for sure. The suspension, the smoothness of the bodywork and a big set (and not too big): near perfection! Highly recommended.
The person above stole the words right out of my mouth! Anyway, wonderful, ahead of its time!
I really like this set and generally the Designer Set line (2003 to 2005).
@Reinier the book provides instructions additionally for a dragster and a mini bike as other ideas (9 creations in total)
@twentythree yes with these 3 sets you could explore the land, the sea and the air ;-)
And my daughter's preferred set was the https://brickset.com/sets/4101-1/Wild-Collection
$60 seems expensive for 2003.

Well, it does have over 700 pieces, 6752 has one more piece and was also $60.
I had this set back in the day! The builds were kind of simplistic (and if I'm remembering right, slightly fragile in some cases) compared to more recent Creator vehicles, but still fun.
Worth noting that although this Designer Set was advertised as having 9 builds, it only featured instructions for three. The rest were pictured in the manual as "inspiration builds", which was probably a disappointment to many buyers since it wasn't marked clearly on the box.
Also, compared to the main "advanced build" shown on the front of the box and instruction manual, the other builds were fairly mediocre. While Creator 3-in-1 has sometimes been divided into basic/intermediate/advanced builds like the ones that this set has instructions for, I feel like most 3-in-1 builds have a higher benchmark for quality than, say, the dragster model in this set.
There is something incredibly cool about the "advanced build" in this set having both working suspension AND working steering. All in all, the Creator theme has never been super consistent about including features like those, but it's awesome whenever they DO show up!
@Aanchir Does it have steering? I don't remember to be honest. I've never played with it, built the main model once, had it on display for a few weeks, and bagged it again...

Sadly no steering. Would be a nice mod since the model is big enough for it. Suspension work is great, especially for the time.
Who you gonna call? Land-Buster!
