A timely reminder in light of the recent one!
And speaking of time, it seems we’re back in the part of the of year where the UK and US haven’t both adopted Daylight Saving Time yet, and this appears an hour later than “normal” for us across the pond!
Loads of rare and expensive parts in this set, partly due to the fact that it came out on the tail end of light gray production. Those octagonal windscreens alone are worth upwards of $20 used. The backpacks are not even available on BL.
Cool backpacks!

White version of the "backpacker's backpack" from the Arctic and Town sets...
Wow. I didn't even know this set existed.
This is the Discovery kit I missed out on as a kid ... SO SO GLAD the new one came out last year, because this one is so rare now that it goes for crazy money on Bricklink and eBay.
Speaking of which, there are also microscale Saturn V and ISS sets within the Discovery range.
This is actually on top of my wanted list :)

Right?! Finally, someone else that knows THE TRUTH.
I own this set and have the box.
I wanted this for so long, so was very pleased when the new one came along.
£90!?
Great, I almost forgot I have this set. It must be in a lot that I once bought according to the instructions that came with it.
Still waiting for the first minifig on the moon by the way.

Yep, something doesn't seem quite right there: US$40/£89.99?
Maybe that was around the time of the Great British flash inflation crisis of April 1st 2003?
I bought this one immediately upon release because of the amazing parts selection and the build was one of the most enjoyable of my 47 years.
This set and the Adventurers theme (Desert) got me out of my dark ages.

Apparently it’s part of Mars. Not FAKE NEWS either.
Looks so crude compared to last year's release.

I heard it was actually hollow and filled with ALIENS.

But how is it made of cheese then?

It's a lot like those cheese balls that are popular around Christmas here in the US, all cheese under the surface. Hollow because aliens have been extracting the cheese through lava tubes hidden on the dark side of the moon.
I didn't know there are themes I've never heard of.

Well how can we have a moon if the earth is FLAT?
Awesome set! Very well done for something from 2003. Yes, last year's Apollo Lander is miles better, but a lot of the pieces didn't exist in 2003, and the set is more than double this one.
From back when Discovery was an educational network. I find it kinda ironic they're pushing STEM; when as of late, all that's been on it is the exact opposite; drunken rednecks, gold mining, street racing, Alaska, people running around in the woods in their birthday suits. Even semi-educational shows like Expedition Unknown often focus on fringe theories and conspiraces and act as if they're real, even though all evidence points to those theories being made-up nonsense. Even the Science Channel is becoming "Crackpots and Conspiracies" instead of concrete science, when after reality shows dominated Discovery and History, it was my last "intelligent" channel in my mid-to-late teens (from 2016-2019, my folks had Dish, who only offered Science on a high-tier package we couldn't afford). As I speak, I just binge-watched the first and half the second seasons of Mythbusters last night through On Demand on cable.
Nice--to all those who've recently said "there should be a modern Space them!", here's your proof that there already was!
The only Discovery set which came with minifigs
Wish I’d bought it at the time, now that those astronauts cost between £50 and £75 used on BL !
@cody6268, I don’t know what you mean by fringe theories and conspiracies. I watch Expedition Unknown. They look for treasure and famed artifacts, but they aren’t fringe theories. They might deal with some lore and rumor, but it’s definitely a historical show.

No, the moon landing was faked by the US government when they hired director Stanley Kubrick to film it, however Kubrick being the perfectionist he is insisted that they film on location

Which is why, more or less, it's the only Discovery show I watch these days.
"Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed!"
My first big space set, but sadly it has been spread throughout the family's Lego universe consisting of my LEGO, my middle brothers stored stuff and my youngest brother parts and pieces. Read: it's been gone longer than the USSR's dream's of a crewed moon landing.
I picked up a few of the smaller Discovery sets (and got to check them all out at NYTF), but I always regretted not being able to afford springing for both this and the giant Mars rover. I picked up the new Lunar Lander on launch day, so that sates any desire to own this set. The rover, on the other hand, only got worse when I missed out on the Ideas rover because it was only available for two seconds.

I remember getting a bulk of old LEGO pieces from a friend's brother in 2011. And among with all the pieces, there it was one backpack like that!
I thought it was a fake LEGO piece or from a non-LEGO kind of toy and I just toss it away on the garbage! Oh dammm...
I picked up all these NASA sets on sale at a KayBee toy store. They were pretty good, but this was my favorite.
