I miss the little $5 creator sets (sniff sniff) .... got 2 of the little train (31015) and the car (31027) with the cones. Hope 2021 has then again. hashtagMake$5creatorsetsagain
I remember these! I had 3 or 4 of them and liked using them to create my own wheel-bike vehicles. I'd make all sorts of weapons and gadgets attached to the sides, and I'd put in turntable plates so that as the 'pod' rolled, the appendages could remain facing forwards.
I bought a couple of these for the pieces, but I ended up loving the pods. They were useful to keep little Lego treasures in.
The X-pod with the white cyclops robot is the best lego set ever next to Benny's Space Squad. Change my mind.
They should bring those old pods back. The newer efforts like the Friends and Ninjago pods are neat (especially those Ninjago Arcade pods) but I miss the simplicity of the original creator pods.
X Pods are great
Hmm, I’ve never actually heard of these pods until now. Sounds like a good idea for a revival at one point. Maybe 2021?
Edit: On a closer look, I might have seen one of those pods in a friends collection long ago. I’m talking about 2009-10.
Somehow the pod seemed more interesting than the set itself...
Those pod pieces are very useful for MOCs. They come in a wide range of transparent colors, so there is a lot you can do with them. I'll be definitely picking up a few of them from Bricklink whenever I'll get the chance.
Saying "I have this one!" in the comment section here sounds the same as saying "First!" on Youtube - but still, it's always nice to see something you're familiar with.
For once, this "pod" concept actually works/worked pretty well. You got quite a versatile selection of useful pieces and even if you have to go, you can easily just toss the parts in the pod and take it with you. The pod is made out of specialized elements, but honestly it was quite pleasing to the eye, especially with all the colors available.
This is from the third and final series of X-Pods. That series always bugged me because (unlike the first two series) there was no consistent theme to the coloring of the pods: orange/trans-red, white/trans-blue, blue/trans-yellow, lime/clear.

That robot was so good they put it in the starter area of the LEGO Universe game as one of the basic opponents to blow up. Was how I discovered the X-pods -- they were off the shelves by the time LU came out, iirc.
Oh its one of these things again! One I don't own this time around though.
I will say though, I think the "use the container in your model" concept works a lot more in this one, which is all about wheeled vehicles anyway, than it does in, say, the bug one
While I never had a Pod or Play Cube , this Pod design certainly is interesting, as they released multiple different colors of them.
Very useful for Sci-Fi / Futuristic / Underwater builds.
4417-1: Aero Pod even has the "Classic Space" Colors, while 4416-1: Robo Pod is more Futuron / Space Police 3 colored.
There were 13 X-Pods (including a black recolor of the green Robo Pod), plus some packaging variants. Somewhere I've got all 13 pods held together by the large carry strap, which was just big enough to hold the full run. I also bought a extras of a few different pods, but not this one. This is one of three later pods (4415, 4416, 4417) that stole their names from three of the original four pods (4346, 4347, 4348). Considering out of 13 pods, three of them repeated names, and one was just a recolor (with the name changed from "Robo Pod" to "Black Robot Pod"), I guess it's not surprising that these didn't last any longer than they did. Word is the designers found the size of the pods to be too constricting, which would explain why these were quickly replaced with similar sets that used packaging that resembled the Tiny Turbos pods. Ironically, those generated a lot less interest in the AFOL community, probably because nobody cared about the packaging like they did with the X-Pods.
I've never seen these before. Don't know how they eluded me, but given that this is dated from 2006 I can't help but wonder if the name was inspired by iPods and the emergence of podcasts.
The only reason I have this (and two others, the blue plane & green dino) is because the LEGO site had these at $1 each.
It says that the set was available on lego.com from 16 Jan 09 - 16 Jan 09. Was it really just there for 1 day 3 years after its initial release, or is this some kind of error that happens with sets that are 10+ years old?
Interesting use of two round plates for the shallow grill. I don't recall seeing that before. Might try it.
