Funny how due to the missile construction Zurg can only hold one in his launcher.

The original Toy Story sets were my favorites as a kid, brings back good memories to see them on RSOTD. It's a shame the new sets were all 4+.

There is nothing scarier than the extra-long arms on the Woody and Jessie from these sets.

I disagree; I think there _is_ something scarier... their extra-long legs!

Every so often I think "I should get a copy of 7593, it would go so well with my Classic Space collection." Then I think, "nah, there's already too much on the wanted list and this would be a very very low priority." Could anyone who has this set speak up and tell us all about it?

By in Australia,

My brother got this for Christmas that year. I loved it as well, but unfortunately it was the only Toy Story set we got.

I come across the pieces quite frequently in my collection, but the stickers are long gone. Neat set though.

It's a relatively decent set. The interior of the ship is quite accessible - the windscreen opens upwards and the back walls/hull/whatever-its-called folds outwards to store the little buggy. Not really much playability other than that. Ultimately, not much more than what you see in that picture - the best part is probably the Zurg minifigure, which I'm fairly sure is exclusive to that set. So, yeah, judging by what you've said about it going with your Classic Space collection, I'd probably say this would be a low priority.

By in United States,

Somehow I ended up with a spare Emperor Zurg head. I need to MOC the rest of him sometime.

Also for everyone who has yet to see the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command show, I highly recommend it! It’s a lighthearted little cartoon that can get a good laugh or two.

I think it’s great little set and that it would fit right in with Classic Space stuff! Although I might be a bit biased since I’m a huge fan of Toy Story and Buzz Lightyeat of Star Command. I wrote an in-depth review of it on EB: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/36663-review-7593-buzzs-star-command-spaceship/

Zurg also had extra-long arms.

And then there's Galidor...

By in Singapore,

Even though I didn't watch the Toy Story films religiously, I was a huge Buzz Lightyear of Star Command fan and played Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, and I would've loved to have this even if it was my only Toy Story set.

I think I bought four copies of this set, built one, and raided the other three for parts.

@iwybs:
There's not a lot to it. Cockpit for Buzz, cargo hold with a ramp for the little cart, but it's mostly about the minifigs. The stickers on the copy I built are starting to have problems, which concerns me. The edges are lifting, and they appear to be those white stickers that crumble to dust at some point.

@TimTam22:
Zurg is absolutely exclusive to this set. They didn't make a new Zurg minifig for TS4, either, so the only other Zurg they've produced is Construct-A-Zurg. As for the show, is it still possible to watch this? Someone recently claimed that the show gets no support from Pixar because John Lasseter hated it.

Galidor isn't scary, actually. The idea that "Galidor is creepy" is just a misconception that some people have. I have a few sets from it, and it's a pretty cool line.

Do they really care now what John Lasseter thinks though? They should just go ahead and put it on Disney+. A few episodes are on YouTube I think, but otherwise there's no legal way of watching it sadly.

I managed to get all the original Toy Story sets, except for the polybags. This was one of my favorites, but then I've always had a weak spot for Lego spaceships. I love the fact that the wings were made to resemble the wings of buzz's spacesuit.

If you look under more images in 7593 there is a great picture of the back opening up to let in the buggy, very 928. I thought about this set at the time, but £31 seemed over-priced for a 257 piece set, glad some people were able to collect at discount.

I still remember getting this set for my birthday some years ago! The stickers have cracked and are peeling, but this still brings back happy memories for me. :)

I liked the firs wave of Toy Story sets. I was lucky to get the one with both Woody and Buzz.

@Okay:
That was kinda my response, regarding Lasseter. Screw D+, though. Release it on home video so I can buy it and add it to the rest of my Pixar collection. Promise to release Soul in theaters once vaccines are available and things have gotten somewhat back to normal. D+ is just renting old content on a perpetual basis, and having no idea if it'll even be available to watch the next time you sit down in front of the TV (or computer, or teeny little phone).

By in United Kingdom,

I'd still like to get that Emperor Zurg minifigure, honestly!

The character terrified me in Toy Story 2 on my initial viewing - as a kid, it was my first time seeing a movie in the cinema, and I was NOT PREPARED to see him blast Buzz's torso clean off his legs in the opening! - but after seeing a friend's real-life toy of him, I quickly grew attached to the character instead. His portrayal in the TV series, as a comedic but still threatening villain, only increased my liking for him.

I can't think why I didn't get this set at the time, honestly. I *did* get the construct-a-Buzz and construct-a-Zurg sets, as well as Woody and Buzz to the Rescue, so I guess I figured that was enough for me, Toy Story-wise? Though if this set had gone the extra length and added even one more minifigures of a show-exclusive characters - especially if it was Mira, as the only one not to have got at least some form of action figure at the time - I can guarantee I would have leapt at it!

Every time I see this set, I think of the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command show; even though Pixar has long refused to acknowledge it, it seems clear to me that the Lego designers turned to the series for inspiration for this set. It isn't Buzz's full Star Cruiser 42, of course, but in the series the cruiser had a detachable shuttle which, in shape and design (although not colour; the in-show version had far less blue), is very closely mirrored by this set: https://img.nickpic.host/aa2Lfq.png

Its most prominent appearance in the series was possibly in the first episode of Season 2, "Lost in Time", where Buzz uses it to lead Zurg into a slingshot manoeuvrer around a black hole in the hopes that Zurg's much bulkier dreadnought will get sucked into the black hole, thereby ridding the galaxy of his evil influence.

It's possible to find the DVD of the pilot movie, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins - just a glance at eBay shows several copies going very cheap - however that was the only physical release the show saw. There was also a behind-the-scenes-ish VHS tape that had trimmed-down versions of a couple of episodes on it, but I wouldn't bet on being able to find a copy of that easily.

Otherwise, there's just unofficial copies floating around, um... one of which I have, because when I was younger it didn't even occur to me that might not be exactly *legal*, there was nowhere else to see it, and I was a huge fan of said pilot movie. Now that I'm aware of the legality issues behind this, I've... no idea what to do about that now ^^;;

But yeah, as stated above, I do hope the show get added to Disney+ at some point, so it can actually be watched legally; it's one of my favourites, and I wish it got more love. But as far as I gather, while John Lasseter reportedly hated the show personally he still allowed it to exist, but since he left Pixar it seems to just have been brushed under the rug entirely... I think it's more to do with preserving the company's brand as purely quality cgi movies, and a 2D TV show doesn't fit that image, but that's just a guess on my part.

I mean, granted, that would be even better! But historically, I don't think Disney's ever released a full TV series on DVD except in really exceptional cases; the only one I know of is Gravity Falls, and that took some serious petitioning - from the creator as well as the fans - to see it come about.

I don't know if enough people even remember BLoSC to bring that about in this case.

@BionicleJedi:
After a _long_ delay (11 years), they did eventually release the final box set of the original Ducktales, even if they did so as a Disney Movie Club exclusive. Still waiting on them to do the right thing and do a wide release of the final box set of Darkwing Duck, with the "controversial" episodes intact and unedited.

To be fair, a lot of other series from that same era had the same problem. Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain both stopped one box set short of completing their respective series, and likewise took several years to correct that problem. Another show from my childhood, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, is still waiting for a final box set that it will probably never get.

These days, if you want to release a vintage series on home video, it really makes more sense to package the entire series into one box set from the start. Do a no-frills release, and don't charge an arm and a leg. I've seen several multi-season series that have come out in DVD box sets with the whole run for $20-30. They may not do phenomenal business the way a current series can, but they're a one-and-done solution that doesn't leave angry fans hanging in the lurch, and they don't require a ton of additional work like trying to crank out one box set per season. You're more likely to get someone who was mildly interested to bite if the entire show costs $30 vs paying $20 each for five seasons. Well, unless it's a show that can never leave the airwaves, like M*A*S*H.

Yes I remember that, the first three boxes of Animaniacs and the first two of Pinky and the Brain all came out, then the final boxes for both shows finally arrived years later once the shows began gaining new fans on its airing on The Hub (Discovery Kids) and then Wakko's Wish and (shudders) Pinky, Elmyria and the Brain got their releases on DVD when the original shows moved to Hulu and the reboot was announced.

Pity Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is still locked in the Disney vault though. They fired John Lasseter, who cares if he loves the show or not now! The bits I remember are kind of like a kid-friendly version of the same thing Futurama did, lots of tributes to old science fiction and the like.

@xboxtravis7992 :
The funny thing about Lasseter is that pretty much everyone at Pixar knew about him, and they even had chaperones who would (especially at parties where booze was being served) tag along to reign him in. So not only were they aware of his behavior, but they knew it was a problem, and they chose that route rather than giving him the boot. Once he ended up working directly for Disney, things changed, but within Pixar there's probably a strong degree of loyalty to their former leader. That alone may complicate any attempt to get the series released on home video. The fact that it's been off the air so long, and is largely off the radar at this point (how many people even knew it existed?) makes it highly unlikely that we'll ever see this happen without some sort of online petition. Disney might not be holding it back so much as they simply forgot it exists.

And the final season of Pinky & The Brain _was_ Pinky, Elmyra & The Brain. Both shows got three box sets that released simultaneously in 2006-2007. Animaniacs got a fourth box set in 2013, followed by PE&TB in 2014. Later that year, they finally released Wakko's Wish on DVD. Now, the reboot is going to be on streaming, where there will likely never be home video releases.
