Ah, "Promotional Set". On every kid's wishlist, back in the day. All of the fun of Lego but with cardboard cut-outs, instead.
Do elephants eat fish?
Absolute Legend
Lego needs more triporeurs. That’s an awesome looking yellow barque too!
Fabuland has fallen into the same boat as Animal Crossing. If all the people are anthropomorphic animals, wouldn't it be weird for them to eat fish?
Oh I remember something like this gave me nightmares as a child ...
Besides that great set
Vidiyo has nothing on Fabuland and its nightmares. Nothing.
A+ set.
I’ve always preferred Retail Set, but that’s just my opinion.
@GSR_MataNui:
Chilled monkey brains. Wait, no, that’s still weird...
The next LEGO movie should be Fabuland vs. Bionicle.
Oh that background is quite nice actually!

Who would win?
Not the viewers, obviously.
Wasn't this one of those "theater"-type sets, where the backgrounds were simply stage backdrops for the Fabuland characters to act out their one-act or dinner theater plays?
Just curious, or maybe I'm confusing it with something else.

I don't know. Can the Fabuland characters bring all their Chima arsenal? Giant beasts and huge transforming robots that are all armed to the teeth?
I'd be okay with this.
*just2good wants to know this set's location*
Ah, Parah’mo Sh’nalset, easily one of the most overlooked characters in the Bionicle canon. But this was one of my favorites as a kid. The LORE from the Faabu Lan Saga is some of the best in the series. I’ll never forget when Parah’mo defeated Blip Blorp and Zeep Zop in battle.
You just don’t get it if you’re not a Bionicle kid at heart...
It looks like Butteredwaffles's cat sat on the keyboard.
What a thoughtful name of the set! I'm sure it is very original
It is notable how close that rowboat is to the standard minifig version.
Something tells me Just2Good wants to know this set's location, not sure what

They're all anthropomorphic mammals or birds though. Doesn't look like any of the reptiles or fish or other less fuzzy creatures got the upgrade so they're fair game to eat as they would be in the wild. We're using Zootopia rules here

Given most of the BIONICLE names were either Maori words in the early years or Latin derivatives in the later ya'll are tipping close to flat out racism with those jokes. People like you are the reason the Monkie Kid show has only just started calling him Sun Wukong instead of Monkey King and that the BIONILCE reboot had such childish names like "Lord of Skull Spiders."
Ya'll wanna make that joke actually funny change "Blip Blorp" and "Zeep Zop" to "Blooporak" and "Zeepzu" and get rid of all the apostrophes, then you'll at least be in the ball park.

There is a System triporteur in 60234 and a few other sets: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=50015&in=S

Are you saying that 'Blip Blorp' and 'Zeep Zop' is racist? Because that sounds rather tenuous. And if you didn't get the riff on "Promotional Set" then you need to stop looking so hard at things to be offended by.

I really hope that you aren't being serious. How any reasonable person can construe that joke as being even remotely racist is beyond me.

"Why does this even exist? I mean, it’s a pop-up book with just enough plastic bits to legally qualify as a set. I dare you to try and change my mind."
Try to imagine walking around a toy store in the 80's and admiring the gray Castle sets, the 8860 Technic car chassis, 12V train sets (7740, 7750, 7760, signals and remotes), and then there is the shelf with all the bright green Fabuland sets and the little transparent packaging for the small sets (with figures and attributes as above). Below that you would find the plastic Service packs and once a year: a new Lego catalogue with all the new sets for the coming year. If you're over fourty, this may bring back nostalgic memories. And aren't the figures just cute?

If the animal doesn't speak, it's fair game. Same as the Island of Doctor Moreau.
Strange brickset says only available in France but also found a version with German writing.
They should have added a story book or comic to go with the 4 backgrounds of town, river, house and park playground, which are shown at https://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/fabuland/lego-1516-theater-with-play-scenes/

Nah, there isn't any anthro fish character in Fabuland.
In mature anthro fiction this is a prominent topic: in BoJack Horseman it's normal for "animal-people" to eat "animals-food", they look the same but they're grown differently so they don't develop intelligence; in Beastars there's an illegal, but tolerated, black market where carnivores can buy the meat of dead herbivores coming from hospitals and morgues, and there are criminals kidnapping animals to be eaten alive...
And even in Disney comics you often see Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck eat meat...
I can imagine loving this set as a kid. Cardboard cutouts/background would provide countless playing opportunities
I remember having Fabuland sets as a kid. I wish I still had a few of the Figures, the Elephant in particular.

I’d rather see Scala vs Galidor!
Who’s with me?
The 8321 Nepol and Shimmel vs 3220 My Dad battle alone would be stuff of legend!
(Ooh, I got goosebumps just thinking about the epicness)
@CarolinaOnMyMind:
Sure, lock ‘em in a room, throw away the key, weld the door shut, bury the building, and pave over the property.

I genuinely apologize, it was not my intent to mock tribal languages in any way. I can see how my joke could be interpreted in that way, and you’re right that I should probably be more careful when making “funny names” jokes.
I was just trying to riff on set’s name, as well as the Bionicle deepdives we’ve been getting in RSotD. It’s both humorous and endearing to me how Bionicle fans can recite a compendium of knowledge at the drop of a hat, same as the way I used to be able to do with Star Wars (and still can to some extent).
TL;DR No offense was intended, but I’ll be more careful about these kind of jokes next time.

They had to get smart somehow!
Seriously though here in America we slaughtered the decedents mammoths so I don't have direct knowledge but suspect they would have hard time catching one butt maybe they stab them with both tusk...then again they would have to use trunk to get fish off tusk... Probably simpler to grab apple bottoms from the desert...
Such a cute theme. My youngest kid is 6 and he doesn't like them. I don't understand it!

It's not the first time German writing has been seen in France. Do we need to send in the Yanks a third time?
Hmmm.. I wonder if it was a promotional set?

IMO you should never apologize to these kinds of accusations, the people who comes with them will never be satisfied anyway. As I see it this toxic "everything is racist" attitude is promoted as a part of of a modernist/normalist cultural eradication agenda, to make *everything* related to traditional/native cultures so sensitive that no-one dares touch it with a ten-foot pole, and force everyone to avoid anything that's not a part of modern globalist/consumerist mass culture.
It doesn't matter if you're a member of culture [X] or not, if you're not a member you'll be accused of "racism" and "cultural appropriation", if you ARE a member you'll be accused of promoting "negative stereotypes" of your own group. This is not limited to native cultures, you'll see the same attitudes in for instance the "camp gay" vs. "straight gay" conflict.
IMO today's so-called "tolerance" is nothing but a fraud, as it *only* applies to things like skin color, sexuality, handicaps and similar stuff you can't be "blamed" for. It does NOT apply to opinions and personal choices (like lifestyle, wardrobe and preferred intoxicants), I genuinely believe society was far more tolerant and diverse in the 70s than it is today.

Not just birds and mammals. 3721: Clive Crocodile on his Skateboard
That said, many folks fish recreationally (i.e. catch-and-release) without eating said fish. Still kinda weird to catch sentient, anthropomorphic fish, but I wouldn't say the fish Mr. Elephant (Edward?) is catching are either. Just standard Lego fish, not Tom Tuna, Ralph Rockfish, or Aramis Swordfish. In make-believe animal worlds and real life, you have to draw the line somewhere. Are shellfish fair game? Insects? Yeast?
It's astounding that the comments for a "Fabuland" set has a much uglier debate over Pacific Native racism than the comment section for the Keeper's Village review.
I suspect it's because Bionicle got involved here, and AFOLs tend to have strong feelings one way or the other about that theme.
