Gee, and we thought personal ships were oversized in Star Wars sets, look at this behemoth!
@MCLegoboy:
7888 would like a word with you.
It's a real chunker, but I like it!
Ah yes, the one with a disembodied head driving!
This was one of the first Lego sets I ever owned!
Imagine F1 races where cars have wheels at the height of your shoulders (I assume the wheel is 4 studs high). Not quite monster trucks but would be impressive if they managed to get to 200+ km/h. Accidents would probably be more dangerous for other racers and spectators than the driver. (most likely, no tires would be able to take that stress and speed at that size).

I don’t know, they’re both red with four wheels.
Huwbot has recently gotten more in the Racers Ferrari subtheme, aye?
This would have needed one of the old Technic figures as a driver, for better proportions.
They should've just left out the driver. For its time I think it's fairly accurate to the source apart from the scale issues.
He’s ahead!
Lego produced more minifig-appropriate F1 Ferrari's in that same year. This is sort of like a mini-UCS version of those, where it's more detailed and bigger, but it still uses a minifigure part (similar to how the UCS X-wings still use an R2-D2 minifigure despite the scale issues). Though here they probably just added the helmet because the cockpit is open, otherwise it would look weird while driving it.
Overall in multiple years from 2004-2009 there were many scales of Ferrari F1 cars :
Smaller then Minifig : 8153 : Ferrari F1 Truck , 8155 : Ferrari F1 Pit
Minifig Scale 8375 : Ferrari F1 Pit Set 8654 : Scuderia Ferrari Truck 8672 : Ferrari Finish Line , 8673 : Ferrari F1 Fuel Stop 8144 : Ferrari 248 F1 Team (Michael Schumacher Edition) 8168 : Ferrari Victory 8185 : Ferrari Truck
Large Scale : 8362: Ferrari F1 Racer 8142: Ferrari 248 F1 1:24
XXL Scale Brick Built : 8157 : Ferrari F1 1:9
XXL Technic : 8386 : Ferrari F1 Racer 1:10
XXXL Technic : 8674 : Ferrari F1 Racer 1:8

O, HORROR! The head alone drives this mighty track-beast... So, it is the fate of the head of famed professor Douel from that Soviet-era sci-fi flm...
It's not a scale minifigure anyway. So what is this head for?
Thank you TeriXeri I didn't realize there were so many Ferrari sets, the last three 1:8 to 1:10 scale look really great. Although this version is a lot smaller and less detailed, it still looks like a far better racer for the same price than the creator 3-1 sets 31072 or 31002.
I guess we are supposed to assume that the head is on a taller, more realistically proportioned adult body. Still looks pretty small, though.
