Review: 40529 Children's Amusement Park
Posted by Huw,40529 Children's Amusement Park will be a gift with purchase at LEGO.com sometime during May. We believe the 170-piece set will be free with purchases exceeding £90 / $90 / €90.
The three amusements, which include a banana boat swing, look to be the perfect accompaniment to the popular Creator Expert fairground sets.
Summary
40529 Children's Amusement Park, 170 pieces.
An attractive GWP available for a fairly reasonable spend threshold
- Three fun additions for your fairground
- None
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Parts are packaged in unnumbered bags and instructions are provided in two manuals.
A small sticker sheet provides decorations.
The freckle-faced boy and girl minifigures are made from existing torso and head prints. The girl's hair is relatively uncommon, though, having first been used in 71021 Birthday Party Girl.
The banana boat ride utilises for the majority of the pieces in the set and most of the stickers. I was not familiar with the cool yellow piece used for the swing, 67075 DESIGN ELEMENT 6X2X5 1/3, which until now has only been found in minidoll sets.
It's an attractive and colourful structure, thanks to the three shades of green and fun stickers.
The monkey's head poking out from behind the ride looks splendid from the front but perhaps not so convincing from behind.
The minifigs fit in the swing but have to stand in it, given that they don't have hinged hips, and it is of course functional.
The strength test is also functional, although it offers no resistance: the slightest flick on the target will cause the grey bush to hit the bell. The mallet is twice the height of the minifigure: I think more strength would be required to lift it than strike the target!
Completing the trio of amusements is throw-a-ring-on-a-duck, but avoid the yellow frogs to claim a prize. One can never have enough ducks, or frogs for that matter!
It's a fun little set and if you have a fairground in your LEGO City the three amusements will provide hours of additional fun for your minifigures!
It will be a GWP at LEGO.com sometime soon with purchases exceeding £90 / $90 / €90.

Looks like a nice GWP. But, the price threshold seems a bit steep. Nevertheless, I will be getting it. The ducks, frogs, and monkey really do it for me.
Thanks for pictures of the bags and stickers. This site really is the best.
BTW the link to Lego at the bottom seems to be nonfunctional.
^ Thanks, sorted.
The number of stickers would be a minor complaint for me, but apart from that a great little set indeed!
The stickers notwithstanding -- because that looks kind of horrifying to me -- it looks like a nifty little set. I love the monkey design on top of the swing.
The hammer isn't really for the minifigures; it's for the real-life people playing with the set. Of course, if it really bothers you, you could always replace it with Mjolnir if you think your minifigs are worthy...
No box pictures?
Comprehensively-useful review!
Any idea when it might be available? Tomorrow would be very ideal...

No need, they are in the database.
Thank you for the review. Will try to get this for the banana boat ride. Already have the duck ring toss and strength test from the people fun fair pack.
Is there a new Fairground set, a major one, in the works?
Banana sticker parts could be re-used for some banana farm truck.

Rumor is another roller coaster.

You're not wrong. The dark background plus the slanted bananas and downward sloping fronds combine to form angry faces. Yikes! That's one mean sticker sheet! Good ol' pareidolia at work.
Hey. Is there a reason why you havent annouced that europe and oceania got new online BaM feature in SaH?
I so clearly need to own this set, just for the Monkey atop the banana boat ride. The rest will be gravy and the stickers are fine. I'm used to stickers.
Maybe I need more than one...

This is great. Sure would've been nice if it were the GWP now.

Probably because it isn't fully released yet. There was a trial version up a few days ago presumably to test the system with live orders. It has since been removed. I have 6 figures that have apparently shipped...
I'm going to work these into the base area of my roller coaster set (10261), great pieces to fill out the scene.
The games in this look like the ones from 60234: People Pack - Fun Fair.
Nice looking GWP. Would be handy if it's released tomorrow, same day as 76956 T.Rex Breakout.... There's a limit to how many Easter bunnies a person needs!
Glad there will be a decent GWP when I order to claim the Classic Space hat VIP reward.
how has the "May the 4th" GWP not leaked yet? It's only 2 weeks away

The roller coaster is rumored to have a loop."
Yassssssssssss!!!
Nice review!
I suspect the reason for the size of the mallet is so that it's long enough for a minifigure to hold across their body using BOTH hands (something I often do when displaying or playing with Ninjago minifigures who wield weapons like war hammers, bo staffs, or polearms).
The minimum handle length that would allow for that is around 2.88cm (the length of a lightsaber blade minus two studs' thickness). However, if a lightsaber blade piece had been used for the handle, there'd have been nothing to stop it being pushed in too far and thus making the handle too short to hold in both hands.
The number of stickers feels rather unusual for a set this small, but I also can see how these patterns are too set-specific to really justify printing ALL of them. I suppose the designers could have potentially switched some of them for generic unprinted bricks, like a gold 2x2 dish for the bell or a stack of differently colored 1x2 bricks in place of the measurement markings. But for my part, I don't really mind stickers much.
All in all, this set serves as a very charming fairground scene with just enough unique characteristics (like the banana-swing ride and monkey sign) to feel distinct from similar scenes in previous sets. I'm not sure who designed this particular set, but I feel that they did a very good job here! :)

That would be excellent, although it will need a pretty big (aka expensive) set to get enough height to get through a loop. Start saving!
This can be combined in a nice JP/JW location.

"The rumour is it's about the same price as the last one, maybe $20USD more but have fewer pieces. Have you ever played Roller Coaster Tycoon? There is one from the game that I think it might be like, but it's hard to explain."
That would be quite impressive. Not played Roller Coaster Tycoon (or something similar) since the DOS version. Made me feel physically travel sick, which put me off a bit!
Yuk... 30433 Volvo Wheel Loader new GWP. No purchases before 1st May then!
I was also curious about that swing element, thinking that it would be odd for a brand new mold to be introduced in a GWP like this. Guess I missed its inclusion in the Friend and Princess sets.
