It's a bird...
It's a plane...
It's...something blazing in the air.
It's honestly a pretty cool set for 2003, the transition between old and new Lego with lots of the new-for-the-time curved bricks on the front and sides. There's also a bit of some technic mechanism going on the inside for the landing gear and rotor if I remember correctly.
Made from a WWII-era Japanese tugboat...
Another set that I really wanted as a kid but wasn't able to get, and still haven't got. It's still one of the best-looking large helicopters Lego has ever done. You can't see it on the box, but it has a geared function to spin the rotor. In my opinion, it's every bit as good as any Model Team set ever was.
Good looking set, and a bit more solid than the worryingly bendy current Technic 42145!
It's certainly large.
Chrome parts, geared mechanism that turns the propeller, beautiful color scheme. Love my copy!

"Oh the humanity!"
Air Blazers!
More than meets the eye!
Air Blazers!
Terrors in the skies!
My son had that set. Now he is a pilot.
Looks fun to play with the rotor and landing gear functions. I also liked the colors and the shaping. Besides if you decide to do your own thing, you get lots of nice slopes.
Just blaze!
Love this set. If you have the time I would recommend reading through the instructions.
Just as much as the smaller Designer sets this one comes with a LOT of alternate models, most of which ideas without instructions. They didn't have to go THAT hard, but they did!
This is where the 3-in-1 from Creator today stems from. But unlike today, the designers wrung out every thematically relevant possible model they could think of out of the parts.
The 2003-2005 Designer theme was so underrated!
This was a time when Lego went all in on creator line. This set has 9 instructions and each model can looks good. Nowadays it's just not worth it for Lego to even include a B-model for technic sets... That's what you get if majority of your consumers is into collecting and plating for a short period of time. Kind of sad to me. Anyway, great looking set!
Ah yes, loved it. Instructions for 3 models and it came with pictures, from multiple angles, for other models! And Lego stopped doing that because parents complained there were no instructions for them. Oh no! A challenge, for my poor child! we can't have that!
Great set for own mocs as only having a large quantity of plates and slopes in 3 main external colours (with internal grey rather than pink, lavender, orange or lime) is far more useful and easier to build with than the current creator basic sets with the mainly brick and specialized pieces split over 16 colours!
cool looking set, not sure if I'd want to fly in it though, it looks to have parts flying off of it every which way!
I bought all three in this series. They’re all very good and worth having!
I remember the yellow truck had all the makings of functional steering yet… it was fixed.
I like this a lot more instead of just having 1-2 pieces forming a LEGO cockpit.
Also fantastic alternative builds.
Closest, most recent example would be 31096: Twin-Rotor Helicopter which is also 12+ wide at the landing gear, but the jet build certainly isn't as refined as the one from this set.
