Starting early with the newly available 2013 range
it's monke monday!
Speedorz - Great idea, wasted potetial.
Available right now, New, Complete, for $7.62. Good news if you're trying to fill in any gaps in your 2013 Chima collection, since value is about half what it retailed at.
And then T.Rex arrived and found that someone had left the gate open...
2013... funny, how time flies...
ancient time Stuntz :P
I found this set for $2 at a garage sale once. Undoubtedly I was excited to find any lego for such a price.

Stuntz works better than these.
Chima's weighted metal wheels and rubber tires meant these things would roll faaaaaaaaaar!
I can remember my son rolling a car he made using 4 of these wheels across a floor at an event my friends and I were doing at Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, NY!
Chima was an interesting theme. I’d like to see more original fantasy lines from LEGO.

And my car works better than a chariot.

That was my thinking. RSoTD didn’t waste any time covering a new eligible theme.

Of course... they're very cunning stuntz!
I still haven't gotten around to watching Chima, so I don't have much lore for y'all.
Long story short, there's a magic floating island in the sky from which this substance called Chi flows. Animals exposed to Chi became sentient and formed tribes long ago. Now these tribes use Chi to power their vehicles and society, or to strengthen themselves
Oh wow, it's Chima time.
I remember when the rumours of the theme first popped up here on Brickset, and I thought it was a typo, and it was actually the "Legends of China", you know, some kin of historical theme, to tap into the Chinese market (that Lego was just started to aim for).
I never really cared for the more-gimmicky aspects, and I think Chima itself dropped focus on the Speedorz thing reasonably early on, when it turns out, the sets were actually pretty cool. I bought as many of the animal-tribe minifigs as I could, I really liked them. And some of the animal-themed vehicles were zords, there's no other way to describe them (particularly the eagle-jet from the first line).
Really underrated line in terms of character design. I wish Legos did more anthros like that instead of costumes or weirdly overdecorated pop-stars.
Thanks to Huwbot for reminding me about the decade anniversary of Legends of Chima! So underrated. I love the minifigures, especially!
Think in 'retrospect', the big mistake Chima made was the 'head-on-a-head' thing they did...if they just did molded heads, and skipped the minifig head under the 'mask'...at least that's what I think/feel...

Given the fact that the Speedor in this set is decorated as it is, your comment brings to mind Groucho Marx’s famous quip:
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.

I agree. It's a pain to have to adjust the head under the "helmet". Would almost be a good idea to glue the outer head to the minifig head.
TMNT and Lone Ranger will also be allowed for RSOTD as well.
On top of this, we will see more 5 digit sets since they started with this in late 2012 with the Hobbit sets. Of which, we already have done 2 of them: 79000 on 12/2 and 79004 on 11/23.
@brick_r:
Hey! I was able to make Suicide Squad Killer Croc using one of the generic croc standard heads. That wouldn't have been possible if they only made molded ones.
But do they whirl anti-clockwise, sweeping around to bludgeon things, or clockwise, to catch things in their spiky bulbs?
No desire to own them, but these must be fun sets. Gorzan is a fun figure I own though, as I have all the legend beasts.
Weird to think the generation that was buried in Chima content has now grown up.
I have some of these. I bought a lot of Chima sets back in the day for some reason.
Funny, at first glance I thought this was a Super Mario set.
Banana powered, apparently.
Vines vs Sharks : 60342: The Shark Attack Stunt Challenge
OMG, "my" first random set of the day! Right, those speedorz ... we designers were encouraged to enhance their performance by adding cool stuff to them. But in reality, most of the time they performed best without extra pieces sticking out. Hence only decorative bananas on this vehicle ;)
FOR CHIMA!
@BrickCommander:
I _REALLY_ hope you mean “first I designed” and not “first I owned”.
@GSR_MataNui
From what little I watched of Chima (2-3 nonconsecutive episodes), it was extremely dark compared to Ninjago. The villain, Cragger, was the protagonist Laval's childhood friend, and gets drugged and manipulated by his sister to "kill" his parents, take the throne, and start a war against the Lions to take their Chi resources, and the other tribes pick sides. However, the writing is tonally dissonant to the epic war story that was set up.
I think Lego may have wanted to make something similar in tone and scale to Bionicle, but fumbled by having the plot start as "big war with 6 factions and multiple characters in each" rather than start on a small scale "6 Toa from different factions teaming up on an adventure."
