Starter set? But this is the second year because of the Snakes. That's not the start!
@MCLegoboy Don’t let Peach hear you say that!
Looks like they forgot to finish it.
@MCLegoboy Shall we call it a Continuation Set then?
I was wondering why I didn't have this as listed, as I was pretty sure I owned it. Then I looked more closely and realized that what I owned was 2257. Anyway, the spinners were the only Ninjago "mechanical gimmick" sets I ever got, unless you count 70739 for a nephew's birthday. I just never had any real interest in the others, although I would like to have 70735.
Had this one, which I brought when we were on holiday in Sydney. I remember building this at the hotel, before realising that the spinners wouldn’t work because I couldn’t find the 2x2 inverted domes! They turned up eventually; both of them must’ve fallen off the table.
Also Cole’s head was missing the mouth. I think he’s one of my first misprinted LEGO figures.
These were really fun, my friends and I spent a lot of time playing with these when we were kids. They hit the right balance between fun gimmick and LEGO building, since the cards prompted different builds.
Fun Fact! Somehow the parts listing for this set on this site has all the pieces for 5982 included for some reason.
I just found some random parts from this set in a bulk lot. I was wondering where they came from.
I don't care about Ninjago, but it's one of the last original themes still standing, so I've got to give it to them.
It's been on my 'get-it' list for a long time: Some green axle connectors have only been available from Ninjago sets (https://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-4654507) until recently.
@chefkaspa:
Originally released in 8446, according to Bricklink. I got one to use as one of Greedo’s ears before anyone had even heard of Ninjago.
But what does it start? An addiction to collecting the other Ninjago sets? So this is a gateway set then…

Addiction is such a strong word...why not say passion?
I think the set makes a good starter in terms of having a minifigure from both the hero and villain factions along with accessories. The Epic Battle sets were similar, but without spinners or cards.
Like I said in the Snappa spinner set, the 2012 redesigns were great for all sorts of customization. It's a bit of a shame that this one has the single most common and obtainable Serpentine minifigure from the bunch outside of spinners, as Rattla appeared in the cheapest set to include a Serpentine (9441 Kai's Blade Cycle). Even if you count polybags he still beats everyone, as 30088 Rattla appears on his own as a polybag.
Cole ZX was harder to find, but his appearance in 9447 Lasha's Bite Cycle makes for an equally expensive method to get him.
Personally I prefer 5951 Weapon Pack, as that one comes with the exclusive NRG Kai and Chokun, who otherwise only appears in the single biggest Ninjago set of the year! It also has more accessories to build up your spinner with and the spinners are transparant too!
Also, I might be biased because I own that one from a sale from back in the day!
The spinners in this set are nice though, although I prefer the transparant ones as they're supposed to be energy tornadoes.

I think you meant 9591 Weapon Pack.
I had this set, but I must've lost the snake guy in a move around 2012-2013 :/
A shame, because it was an awesome figure!
Looking at the history of spinners, 2019 really does stand out as the best spinner builds of the last few years, 2020 still had a brick-built launcher but it went downhill in 2022 again.
Piece count is really telling, when it goes from average of 100 to like 25.

Funny how the Serpentine can suddenly use Spinjitsu...
Starter! I don't even know her!
Wow, the image really brings back memories, almost crying because of the nostalgia. Wish I bought this one.

I think you mean Fang-Kwan-Do.
