By in Australia,

What I remember from this Castle line was the dragons, that were just gorgeous.

It's a very Game of Thrones day on Brickset.

I really feel like this set needed a shark with a friggen laser on its head, swimming in the moat.

I never owned this set, but I remember seeing pictures of it in the Lego Magazines & catalogs as a kid and thinking it was the coolest set ever.

After an amazing inaugural decade for the Castle theme between 1984 and about 1996 or 1997, the theme really began to suck. Ninjas and Knights Kingdom II? Blech! The fantasy era that this set eas a part of brought the magic back. Amazing sets!

This was (and still is) a great set. And that dragon! Wow!

The Ninja sets don't really match what they had been developing with the European style castle theme up to that point. But where they actually bad? Or just not what was wanted from a 'Castle' theme? (I didn't even realise they were considered castle until I got back into Lego and tried to find them.) I only have a couple of the smaller sets and they seem fine to me. I would love to get some of the larger ones to see what they are like.

One of my favorite LEGO sets of all time.

I just got this dragon, today!

'I always feel like,
Huwbot is watchin' me!
And, I can't get no privacy!
Ooh, whoa-o.'

I do wish this dragon could breathe fire instead on the chin flames of which he is only capable.

By in Netherlands,

You know, it isn't easy living here on Skullcrusher Mountain
So maybe you could cut me just a little slack
Would it kill you to be civil?

I've been patient, I've been gracious
And this mountain is covered with wolves
Hear them howling, my hungry children
Maybe you should stay and have another drink
And think about me and you

By in Canada,

This set was the first of an annual tradition of my wife buying a Lego set for me to build with my kids over the Christmas break. :) There have been many more since then!!! XD

A great set with a sweet dragon. What more do you need?

I wonder what you can spell using bones found in the cage ;)

I've got all the big sets, and they're all good, but 6089 Stone Tower Bridge is the best. The architecture is wonderful.
Yeah, Ninja wasn't "regular Castle" but so what? It was warrior factions and their fortifications- good enough for me!

By in Poland,

Never had a Castle set, because I was always a City/Space kid, but I liked seeing Castle in catalogs.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Like it. Want it.

Even if the skull has a severe underbite.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Sadly the 2007 castle builds were a bit fragile and with this set the side (plate with 3 big horns/bones) came loose.
The drawbridge worked fine and the new dragon and the lightening bolt was of course awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very similar to 70403 which is the one I have. For a while I had them mixed up. Both are excellent sets, wish I had this one, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Clutch Powers tower and evil wizard!

Also, the princess might be the prettiest Minifigure of all time (aside from Agent Swift and Chase McCain).

That is all.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I really loved this set; I know a lot of the AFOLs here seem to really be into their realism and details when it comes to castles but I’m more in it for the sheer character on display. You look at this and there is zero doubt that it is the lair of some evil wizard, 10/10 for storytelling

Castle Bleyskull?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I always felt a bit disappointed the there was no interior to this.
That said, Fantasy Era Castle is great. I wish I got more of them back then, but i hadn't been able to. And castle fans being their usual hungry, army building selves the sets had quickly become expensive to acquire affer retirement, unfortunately.

Oh, and you can clearly see that the evil wizard (Mallock the Maligned in the Clutch Powers movie) is another ancestor of Ogel. It's like the medieval answer to 6776 Ogel Control Base, 4795 Ogel Underwater Base and 4748 Ogel Mountain Fortress.
The minifigure even uses an updated Ogel head underneath the beard!

@Miyakan as someone who owns all the main sets of the 1998 sets except the 6088 Robbers Retreat, 6013 Samurai Swordsman (which is basically in the biggest set 6093) and 4805 Ninja Knights (same).
So 6033, 6045, 6083-2, 6089 and 6093.

I can say it's a great theme! It's very 90s but the sets are beautiful and full of functioning traps so very playable. The minifigs are great to have multiples of and although it's not the most historically accurate it's a fun theme with multiple factions just like the main castle sets are.

I had the set but gave the castle to charity when I moved home some years ago. Still have the dragon, minifigures and horse. They’re in my display collection :~)

By in Norway,

Fantastic looking maiden minifig, that is probably the only thing I have from this set..

Hopefully we get a medieval village set soon with more civilian minifigs ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

As someone who doesn't own any castle sets,I say fantasy era was the best subtheme of castle.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Very cool set, that I still have on display for a long time now...

The big skull is a bit cartoony, but quite an improvement over the Pirates and Ogel (Alpha Team) ones.
The one big issue it has is the unavoidable lack of interior, since almost all is taken up by the drawbridge mechanism (probably that's why the prison is outside...)

Both the Evil Wizard ('Mallock the Malign') and the Princess are set exclusive, which also a big bonus at the time of it's release (the knight is not that unique, as all his parts are available elsewhere). Also we got our first red dragon and that cool dual-moulded lightning piece.

Despite multiple attempts of rebuilding it with great care, the drawbridge lowering mechanism on mine is still not loose enough, so that the bridge will lower properly on it's own (raising works fine). Anybody else had this issue?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Miyakan:
Are you sure? For several years, I thought I had both versions, and then I found out there are actually three, each unique to a single set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This gives me flashbacks to watching Clutch Powers when I was younger. Those were the good old days.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's funny reading the comments... I seem to recall at the time a lot of LEGO castle fans didn't like the fantasy line as much before it wasn't realistic. But it seems there are plenty of people here who remember it fondly.

I loved it, probably better than a more realistic theme. The dragons were just so cool, as was the whole skeleton army thing. This set was a great evil villain tower, and I almost missed it... it had left the stores in the US but I managed to get one on Ebay from the UK before it got to expensive.

Ooo, lore possibility: the skull is supposed to be of a giant troll!

Wow!! I have basically the same '99 ninja collection as you!! (and agree about the other small ones being inside the main castle). I was really fortunate to be working a part time job and got multiples of 6093 . Maybe I shouldn't have opened them all...
Speaking of multiples... I should have kept my second one of 7093 (exactly 1000more than 6093 ) in the box! $300 already... almost 10x in a bit over 10years... wow. All the dragons in this theme were great, but I clearly put the one from 7048 above all the others!! I love that armor. It'd be better if we could take it off and put it on other dragons... but it's still awesome.

By in Netherlands,

Fantasy Era Castle was one of the best Castle subthemes!
Great set! Sadly, I don't have this set.
I do own 70403 it is a little similar to it, but the build itself is nowhere near as appealing as the castle depicted on the box art from 7093
Love that dragon, evil sorcerer, princess, and knight on horseback with barding.

@domboy:
I liked the idea of the undead skeletal army, but not the execution. The Battle Droid arms are way too long for a minifig, and look far too robotic. It wasn’t until Ninjago that they finally introduced proper friction skeleton arms.

By in France,

One of the first official sets I saw aimed at a general audience that really struck me as an AFOL style design, it stood out at the time and even today. The big cartoony dragon is more Playmobil than LEGO, I'll always prefer the original 90s animal designs that are more in-system.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I told you to bring me a MINI fig! This is a REAL fig!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I didn't care for the dragons in Fantasy Castle. After the incredible Bionicle beasties in the Vikings sets, these giant-hunks-of-molded-plastic dragons felt like a real step down. There is a threshold at which animals should switch from being molded to being brick-built; the classic Dragon Masters dragon was comfortably under it, but Fantasy dragons are way over it. The far-superior Ninjago dragons really prove the point.

That's the only downside I can say to Fantasy Castle though. I preferred the trolls and dwarves, but it was all wonderful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There are bigger sets. There are arguably better sets. But this is, hands-down, my favourite post-1997 Castle set in my collection. It has everything you need in a single set: hero, villain, dragon, princess, mooks, fortification, horse. This set can probably take credit for my rekindled interest in the Castle sets of my childhood as not just parts but as sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At the time, to me, Castle 2007 seemed like a step down from Knights Kingdom II... a more generic name, no really defined characters... of course, they did create some wonderful sets that stood out (7036 and 7048) and this particular set has a place on the table of skull-themed Lego sets, but the theme just didn't have what I was looking for in the 2000s "golden age" of character-driven Lego action themes. Upon reflection I can appreciate that it brought medieval fantasy races and concepts to the forefront, which did make more variety in sets and play conflicts.
