Fun fact: This set was originally meant to include the cloud city Boba Fett with arm and leg printing, but it was not to be.
You can even see that version of him on the side of the box!
Nothing will ever beat 7144
Let my old man words be heard!
I nice looking set for it's time.
Still waiting on a 7153 remake...
Something I will always love about the old sets. Is the non "canon" play features. Like a giant missile right under Boba Fett.

Next year please!
If not, then one in 2027 for Episode II's 25th anniversary.
I'm sure a lot of those brown panel pieces would have broken in the 18 years people have owned this set!

I've found this set in many collections, and surprisingly enough, I've always found all the panels 100% intact. It doesn't make any sense, but heck, I ain't complaining.

I do kinda want to make a white version of that for 2853835...
The only larger scaled Slave 1 (That belongs to Boba) that I don't own (And the one from Cloud City, I guess...)
'06 was such a good year for LEGO Star Wars. These sets really represented a massive upgrade from those before.

In my experience, brittle brown has only been a problem with sets from 2013ish - 2018. I’ve never had an issue with older sets.
Also this was my first and favorite Slave I!

Got a soft spot for both that and this version, might be nostalgia talking but I find them sleeker than the more modern iterations of the ship
To me this is the best version. It's more detailed than my 2000 version, but more saliently it has so many play features! Out of all the Slave I's this one feels the most like a flying tricked-out arsenal. Which it should! Later versions got more 'accurate', but this one still seems the most fun!
Wish I owned one. But at least I have the OG version!
IMO best minifig scale Slave.

Such a good year for Lego. See: 7905, 7898, 7894, 7783, 7709, 8285, 8674, 4896 A lot of great sets.

No, that is a "cannon" play feature!
My favourite Star Wars ship, the Undocumented Employee I!

Surprisingly not! At least in my case. I rebuilt mine just last year; one small flake had cracked off the side of one of the brown curved slope bricks, but that was the extent of any damage to those pieces, which I figured really wasn't bad after the horror stories I'd heard!
Still really like this set. It was my 2006 birthday present that I asked my parents for, as I didn't have any LSW ships bigger than one-person starfighters at that point, and had also started to develop an appreciation for some of the ship designs, including Slave I in particular. It was just great timing that this new version of it had been released that year, and wasn't excessively expensive - plus, it having a few more of the Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters in minifigure form for the first time (IG-88 and Dengar, both of whom I'd read about in the Tales of the Bounty Hunters story collection) added a lot to its appeal.
I remember having a blast building it, and the end result was pleasingly sturdy and great for zooming around. I loved the way the wings and Boba's chair rotated to be upright, whether the ship was in landing or flight orientations (albeit not completely accurately to the movies: the wings indeed seem to work like that, but AotC showed that the seat remains in place, so the pilot would actually be lying on his back when in landing configuration). I enjoyed the big technic missile as well - I already had one such launcher from 7260 Wookiee Catamaran by then, but they'd fascinated me ever since I'd seen the Club Magazine's advert for 8008 Stormtrooper, so it was always nice to get another one! The various hidden weapons and missiles in various compartments were again a nice touch.
All in all a fun set, and still one of my favourites quite honestly!

I really want to go back in time to get these sets early...

In my experience 2009 to circa 2013 Reddish Brown cracks, whereas prior and later batches do pretty well.

How cool would it be if Lego did a 2 in 1 UCS release of the Slave 1 with the parts to do either Jango Fett's or Boba Fett's color scheme?
This is the large-scale Slave 1 my brother got as a gift. Sure, newer ones have some better details, but this will always be the quintessential set of this ship to me.
I now own 75312 for myself and I'm content with it (with the bonus that it's compatible with the old Carbonite Han printed brick), but I have so much nostalgia for 4487 and desperately want a Jango Fett minifigure that I hope they do another AOTC Slave 1 soon at either play scale. They whiffed the opportunity to do it for the AOTC anniversary, but hopefully they haven't fully abandoned the possibility.
'Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold'
(I'm surprised nobody had said that yet!)
Ah, this was my original Slave I. One of my absolute favorite childhood LEGO sets - 2006 was an excellent year for great models. This was also the year I got my first X-Wing, even if it was just a rerelease of the 2004 verison with a bunch of Hoth minifigures (that are now so played with and so cracked I can't imagine they work anymore!)
It's an intriguing one, since it follows on the heels of the larger sized type they made for Jango. I was sad I never picked up 8097, and sadly only realized what I missed by not looking for 75243 until it was off shelves and discontinued. I'm not a fan of the smaller revisions, so 75312 didn't appeal to me. Also - it's the same price as this one was for such a smaller model! But nowadays I'm still clamoring for a new version of Jango's Slave I... they simply have to, at this point. We even have Kaminoans now, and we stopped whitewashing clones - it's an optimal time for a new Jango and Boba... LEGO, if you're listening...
But, I digress. Lovely set, though I figure it's a bit dated now. I think mine has been in storage for the better part of 10-15 years now. A finnicky and fragile set - I recall a lot of the back falling apart. But hey, that's the way these things go. The back shape of the vehicle was such a difficult one to do too - so it's fun watching the progression of it play out in the models. It also reminds me this was way back when the helmet and jetpack for Boba/Jango was a single piece. I'm actually sort of a fan of the squared off look of the helmet - gave it a very "LEGO" vibe, sort of light the double-sized minifigure head version of Ki-Adi-Mundi from the first (?) LEGO Star Wars game. Nowadays, we do much more film-accurate shaping. That's good, but sometimes I really enjoy the old ways...
