Today's random set is 4076 Pteranodon, released during 2001. It's one of 46 Studios sets produced that year. It contains 17 pieces.

It's owned by 130 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $11.90, or eBay.

Didn't look anything like that in Jurassic Park III, but neither did the single mold piece either. Although it was better, so maybe they should have had that with a small nest or tree or something.

Creepy. That moulded head goes terribly with the brick built body!

Well... at least they didn't call it a Pterodactyl

Remember, this was the experimental age of Lego, give it some slack.

That's the third studios polybag this month, ease up a little huwbot. ;)

"We're pah-ter-dactl bros!"
"Soos, the 'p' is silent."
"No-one knows how to pronounce it 'cause no-one was alive back then."

And the second such polybag to have a prehistoric creature and use that head piece.

Yeah, and somehow Technic skeletons with fancy masks and incoherent lore saved them

Well, they didn't really have a lot of options back then. There was this, the T-Rex head, and the Mosasaur head, and I think that was it.

They *could* have tried brick-built heads, but considering the parts palette at the time, I'm not sure how well that would have worked out.

By in Germany,

We had one of those not so long ago...

Red dino head!

EDIT:
regarding the previous posts:
You are aware of the Dinosaurs line the same year?
Both JP3 and those Coca Cola promos were likely intended at promoting those.

And as much as I dislike repeating myself, the concept was very good.
Creating creatures based on a modular system is very much 'Lego' if you ask me. Surely there were some issues like covering the click-in areas for the limbs better and probably get a bit more diversity, but I'd say it's better than full blown single element creatures or relying on color-locked grey joint pieces...

By in United Kingdom,

You can imagine this on strings being swung down to terrorise some poor actor. Might not be particularly great as a pteranodon but it does capture that "cheap movie prop" vibe

By in New Zealand,

Ooh. Red dinosaur!!

By in Netherlands,

Red dino head! And (at the time new) red horn/tail end! Spared no expense!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I'm sure this dino is trying to build a nest in legendary sets 4073, 4074 or 4075.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm sure that head kept falling off the front of the space vehicle.

Okay, consecutive set numbers, released at the same time, and yet somehow their names are out of order?

I'm sure the set number managers (or whatever they are called) did it on purpose so that it could bother people 23 years later…

I wonder where the names are from? Could this be a 'My Dad' situation in that it was just placed on Brickset that way...?

By in United States,

Are we just going to get nothing but the Japanese Studios polybags now?

I mean, Timmy hasn't gotten flattened by a jet since 2024-10-24. And we haven't gotten a Clickits set since 2024-09-26.

I'm pretty bummed I missed the most recent Timmy-meets-jet set. I live for those days.

\No, keep the head. In fact, leave it as is, and say that it's M-Tron's new secret weapon against Blacktron.

I have 4073 still sealed. Not really sure why.

Because you're trying to protect a dinosaur's natural habitat. I mean, who wouldn't?

By in United States,

@AllenSmith: Keep a sharp eye out, because only two "Timmy learns not to play on the tarmac" sets haven't been RSotD: 4032-6 and 4032-13. And Huwbot will run out of Studios polybags eventually.

@TheOtherMike:
I prefer to think of them as the "Timmy Rides the Air Cannon" set.
