The sticker on the front is incorrect. AMBULANCE on the front should be mirrored so that it reads correctly in your mirrors if it were to approach your vehicle from behind. I'm sure it was left alone just so that it's not confusing to kids, but that's inaccurate, and robs a teaching moment. Oh well, it's just a sticker that's likely curling and cracking anyway, big deal.
2012 was a strong year in the "Great Vehicles" subtheme.
60451 Emergency Ambulance will be the first standalone City ambulance set since a while, that wasn't a GWP 40582 4x4 Off-Road Ambulance Rescue or 4+ 60403 Emergency Ambulance
Also, that's a very high resale value on a relatively new City set. Clearly people have an affinity for LEGO medical subtheme.
@MCLegoboy:
If it's rolling up on that poor bicyclist, the rider has bigger worries than being able to read the word in his mirror. If he didn't pay his protection money this month, he already knows the EMTs are going to be paying him a visit.
This came in the same wave as my first-ever LEGO set, 4435!
It began with the forging of the Great Vehicles - Galadriel.
Jay and Nya?
Honestly, I kind of wish Great Vehicles had continued, and 4+ remain a standalone theme. LEGO has, as of late, made many basic vehicles 4+.
Bought this one when new, and really need to rebuild it. If I recall correctly, I went full US-style Type III modular on the rear end. The patient's head was swapped with the male medic, and later the male medic gained a fire helmet to represent an EMS Rescue technician.
While next year's 60451 looks OK, this one is still superior. You had a full EMS crew, as well as a seat for the medic in the rear. The lights integrated into the roof gave it one heck of a sleek appearance.
While I'll likely buy 60451 in the coming year (since the next town over from me runs a Ram-badged Fiat unit) I think 60454 will be the basis of my first MOC since entering the dark ages shortly after I turned 18--the Sprinter cab and already stretched chassis lends itself well to a basic cab/chassis for a larger ambulance.
Literal god tier city set!
@Norikins : Hmm...never thought of that before...still: Jay: CLEAR!!! *BA-CHOCK* (use his lightning powers to mimic a 'crash cart':))
Have this set, and it's 'top 5' for City vehicles (yes, I'm splitting hairs:)), and kind was responsible for my collection of ambulances (got 5 through various sets/things)...come to think of it: when I do finally build a Lego City, I'm set for Emergency Services...but this one will always be my fave. Why? Two paramedics...or is that a pair-o-medics...oh well, anywho; it's more realistic in that: one paramedic drives, the other stays with the patient, at least that's how my dad explained to me (and he was a paramedic for roughly a year in Vancouver, BC, before he switched to construction to be closer to home...)

Not everywhere ambulances are written on in mirrored lettering. In Austria they are not. We trust that people know that they have to make way when an emergency vehicle with blue signal lights (and usually a big red cross on the hood) turns up behind them - without having to correctly read "ambulance".
One of the best ambulances ever. It actually had room for the medics to travel with the patient. And it was of the great vehicles subtheme of its strong first wave.
This is a very nice set with biker and traffic light side builds. Ambulance looks beautiful. I don't like the colors of new sets. Also, great minigifure selection for such a small set.

I think another factor is that standalone LEGO ambulances are pretty rare. I’m glad we’re getting a new one next year.
How kind of the ambulance to allready prepare once they see a bicycle

HAHA I am about two waves older than you. 3367 was my first. (although I got it christmas 2011 so only 1 wave really)
A man has left his bike in the middle of the road in LEGO City!
Start the new rescue ambulance!
I’m assuming the cyclist has had an accident, which is demonstration of why he should have been wearing that helmet instead of just having hair that looks like one
If this ambulance was 2012 then it was before the European Standards introduced later. IIRC, those standards dictate, amongst other things, the battenburg markings colours, the ambulance colour (yellow) and the need for the word AMBULANCE to be on the vehicle. AFAIK, there is no actual requirement for the word to be mirrored on the front of the vehicle but I may be wrong. The US (and I believe other nations) have their own set of standards which may/may not include this directive.
It does, of course, as my Austrian friend says, seem unnecessary but, as most of us know, there are drivers out there who appear oblivious to bright recirculating lamps and sirens!

"Wh-why is this weird Ecnalubma-bus trying to overtake me? What's with those obnoxious lights, and why are they playing that awful song so LOUD? The nerve of some people!"
Dreadful set - look at all the stickers.

This is mostly an American thing. Only places in Europe I've been to to have mirrored print for Police and/or Ambulance was Switzerland and Italy. Might also heavily depend on province/city there too.

City has been mostly stickers since the early 2000s. I remember the 2005 ambulance also having every detail be stickers. The 2005 hospital you even had to apply stickers to the raised baseplate to get the details.
It has doors! Doors to open! Doors to get into the driver's cab!

It's pretty much all over the UK ambulance services - as is the change to yellow ambulances (with the exception of my own nation who have kept them white) I note some of the newer LEGO sets have some yellow liveries now too.
Cheapest set to get an awesome green bike!?

Now you made me curious and I actually checked the current state of ambulance affairs in Austria.
The majority of ambulances are operated by the red cross. Since 2018 they seem to have added some yellow stripes to newer cars (I've never seen or noticed this - I will look more closely in the future).
But they are still predominantly white cars with blue signal lights and red cross emblems all over the thing. No mirrored ambulance signs though...
Did I mention that I really like this set? ;-)
Vienna probably said it means nothing to them.....

The theme name on that one is amusing: "Building Set With People." But then, figures of any kind ( other than stuff like https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=270pb05T=C&C=0) were a recent addition to Lego's catalog then.
I'd forgotten about this one, but it was one of our family's first sets. Recognized the cool corner / stop light scenery that came with it. And sure enough... it was marked as "I own [1]" in my brickset account. Great reminder how good the database here works.
