Bard and Bain
Posted by Huw,If you're in the UK don't forget to head to Sainsbury's to grab the last installment of The Hobbit trilogy on Blu-Ray with free Bard and Bain minifigs today.
I've secured my copy so here's a quick look at the pair of them:
They are packaged fully assembled in a clear polybag printed with just a number unlike those normally used and a warning.
Bain is packed in a blister pack normally used for book cover mounted figures.
Bard is the 2014 version that appeared in 79017 Battle of the Five Armies. Bain, however, is unique to this pack, having new torso and head prints.
Both are printed on the back and have reversible heads.
Given the price of the Blu-Ray in Sainsbury's (£14.99) is the same as at Amazon, if you have a branch near you there's really no reason not to buy it there. But hurry, it will probably sell out quickly...

Picked mine up today found the polybag and blister pack thing odd, makes me think they planned something different. Anyway Bain really is a waste, where is my old Bilbo.
I was lucky as they only had two left and it was only about 10 o'clock. I'm not complaining but it's a shame the Bard is one we've already had, two brand new ones would have been a nicer end to the Hobbit sets.
My branch didn't seem to be awash with them either, at 9:30. I wonder how many each shop gets?
Saw the poster for the DVD in my local branch on Saturday - saying they'll be available today, of course. Perhaps a shopping trip is in order for me?
The one in the centre of Gloucester had the shelf full of them. Until I bought my one anyway!
Got one in Warrington at lunchtime, they had others on a stand at the front. Be warned it comes in a special pack with the figure included, don't go to the till with a normal pack and expect a polybag at customer services or something.
My local branch in Kidderminster which is about a medium size branch only had two copies in this morning and I doubt many were in before me. Having not had time to open mine yet it does seem unusual in the way the figures are packaged so I would have to agree that it does suggest that either Bain was to be packed on his own or available via another means.
A generic Iron Hill Dwarf and either a Wood elf or Lake town warrior would have got the army builders into a frenzy for this .... are they really this bad at marketing?
C'mon, everyone wants an exclusive Bain...
There was one available in the Target here in Georgia, USA yesterday.
Darlington Sainsburys had about half a dozen in as of 6pm tonight, which is more than they usually have of anything (they didn't even sell Blu-rays until 2012).
They look like nice figures.
I don't like Bain's hair color. In the movie, he has dark brown hair, not red hair. Everything else is fine though. I like his new torso.
Can we order and get these here in US somehow?
Yes, at Target I believe.
They should have done Bolg instead.
The Sainsbury's in Fareham had a handful in the entertainment section this evening, and a big display of them near the front. Interestingly, when I scanned it through the self-service checkout the screen popped up a message saying the product is subject to a recall. It wouldn't let me continue with the purchase; even the assistant couldn't bypass the message. I took it to the regular checkout and it went through ok.
They've been available at Target (in the US of A) for weeks.
This really annoys me. The serious collectors want the extended edition of the film but they also want the minifigures. Why can't the minifigures come with the extended edition blu-ray?
I wonder if the 'Recall' on the self scanner tills flags up instead of the Age Verification?
My receipt and the cashier had to say I was old enough to purchase the Blu-Ray.
Figs both look great (doesn't really matter that Bard shows up elsewhere; it's a great minifigure anyway) - especially Bain's new torso. Has a lot of MOCing potential.
"are they really this bad at marketing?"
...The comments about the availability of the Blu-Ray BotFA (+figs) seems to indicate that regardless of what "better" minifigs TLG "could've" thrown in, these are still selling FAST. Sounds more like you're one of those army builders wishing for one of those figs.
For our German fellows.... You can order article today and get it on 23rd of April via Drogerie Müller in stores like Gelsenkirchen or Langenfeld. You have to register....Didn' t know that Drogerie Müller is in fact an English company from London....how funny is that looking at the name...:-)
I got an age verification on the self scan till - maybe yours had some wired crossed :)
Got mine just now. Still plenty available @ Sainbury's Cromwell Road, London. I'm very happy that I happen to have a business trip right now.
bard the bowman is exactly the same as lego sdcc 2014
I brought this set at 30% Bluray/DVD sale last month at BigW in Sydney. It was cheap and plenty behind glass cabinet. Seen in multiple BigW Sydney. I think it is buy 2 get 1 free last week.
This is currently selling in Amazon at around 40USD (26.4GBP) but I managed to catch a reseller that sold it to me for only 26USD (17.2GBP). Totally worth it!
