Review: 71257 Tina Goldstein

71257 Tina Goldstein is the smaller of the two Dimensions packs based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which have been released in the most recent wave of Dimensions products.

Tina is currently exclusive to this set so I am sure it will prove popular among fans of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, particularly since her character is of vital importance in the film. Furthermore, the pack includes a model of the deadly Swooping Evil and allows access to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Adventure World so it seems like an absolute necessity for fans of the wizarding world.

Minifigure

Tina Goldstein accompanies Newt Scamander on his adventures through New York City and this minifigure is an excellent recreation of the character as she appears in the film. Her combined hair and cloche hat element looks particularly impressive and is currently unique to this set, as is Tina's double-sided head which features smiling and frowning expressions.

I like the jacket printed on the torso and this design continues onto the legs. The inclusion of the locket hanging around her neck shows impressive attention to detail on the part of the graphic designer and introduces a nice splash of colour to the figure. Tina's wand is also included, represented by a reddish brown 3L bar.

The Completed Model

Animals are always a difficult subject to render using LEGO and I think this is apparent to some degree based on this model of the Swooping Evil. It is easily recognisable and the curved shape of the wings has been recreated quite effectively given the limitations imposed by the size of the model. Moreover, the head is hinged so it can move vertically and laterally while the tendrils at the base offer some limited articulation which is very useful for realistically posing the creature.

However, the black 1x3 plate which anchors the wings looks rather awkward and the colour scheme is not consistent when the Swooping Evil is viewed from behind. This is unfortunate but these pieces are used in the two alternative models so their inclusion is a necessity. It would probably be quite difficult to improve upon this design but one must still acknowledge its limitations.

It is also worth noting that a stand is included, allowing the Swooping Evil to be presented nicely on the toy tag, despite its unusual shape. You can angle the model on a click hinge situated between the base and the creature which is very useful.

Overall

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is deserving of a full range of sets in my opinion but LEGO Dimensions offers an excellent alternative and this is a brilliant Fun Pack. The Swooping Evil is not a particularly interesting model but the Tina Goldstein minifigure is marvellous and goes nicely with Newt Scamander from 71253 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Play the Complete Movie.

71257 Tina Goldstein

I definitely recommend this set to fans of the wizarding world and am glad to see a female character represented. If LEGO was to release a Jacob Kowalski and Queenie Goldstein Team Pack at some point in the future, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them range would be complete!

Fantastic! Might get this pack if I enjoy the movie enough.

Great review. Although its a shame that you do not get physical minifigures of Jacob Kowalski and Queenie Goldstein, players of Lego Dimensions should note that upon completing 71253 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Play the Complete Movie, Jacob Kowalski is an alternative playable character than can be accessed through the Newt Scamander minifigure.

By in Ireland,

I've this set on its way to me along with a few of the other new Dimensions packs (E.T. and Gremlins - I really want Sonic too but he can wait). Aw yeah, a team pack with Jacob and Queenie would be amazing. Queenie stole the show for me in the movie, so I'd love if they'd release a set including her in the future.

Excellent review. I picked this set up on the day it was released along with the Story Pack and I completely agree with both reviews: these are good but an entire wave would have been better!

By in Japan,

I have the Fantastic Beasts pack, but haven't started playing yet (or read the complete review here), so I'm wondering if I need this fun pack to play as Tina in story mode.

@J0rgen I can confirm you do need The Tina Goldstein fun pack in order to play as Tina in the main story mode.

Bah! Then I'll put it off until I get her. Thanks, War of the 11th .

Getting this for sure, she was cute in the movie! I want to get Newt also but I don't play the game so spending $40 for him and a small set is a bit much, I spent $20 on Chell and that was pushing it on how much I'll spend for a mini fig. But that was worth it since it came with the turret and companion cube!

Just out of curiosity, can these reviews also mention what all the characters and builds do in the game? The models can be fine, but a lot of folks would like to know about what they can actually do in LEGO Dimensions to see if the content in that makes spending money on things such as Story Packs is worth it.

Does anyone know why LEGO didn't do any actual Fantastic Beasts sets? The movie was great and would have translated pretty well to some great sets.

The movie was great! I just ordered this Fun pack and the Story Pack. It would be so awesome if they made a team pack with Jacob and Queenie! Such a good idea.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the movie was, and it makes me want to get these 2 sets. It is much better than the Rotton Tomatoes Rating. Now, I am disappointed that there are no regular sets for this movie.

I hope they'll make a Queenie minifigure as well! I never thought I'd be so close from seeing a Lego version of Alison Sudol. This theme would indeed have benefited from having an actual line, even a single set like the Ghostbusters one.

Tina can play as Queenie, the same way Jacob can be played with Newt, once you have finished the story pack
