Review: 76072 Mighty Micros: Iron Man vs. Thanos

76072 Mighty Micros: Iron Man vs. Thanos offers perhaps the best of these yet. Both of the minifigures look splendid and Thanos' unique vehicle, based on the famed Infinity Gauntlet, is absolutely delightful.
Minifigures
The Mighty Micros minifigures tend to divide opinion but I enjoy their outlandish designs and this version of Iron Man appeals to me a great deal. It most closely the resembles the Model 2 armour which originated in 1963 but is simplified to match the style of other figures in the range. The yellow arc reactor is placed at the centre of his chest and there is some subtle printing underneath to represent a division in the armour.
This continues onto the back of the torso and I like the sharp contrast of red and yellow very much. The helmet is brand new and does not feature an opening faceplate, although you can remove it altogether to reveal Tony Stark's face underneath. The head is printed with a nervous grin and a black hair piece is also included along with a pearl silver wrench, reflecting Tony's penchant for mechanical tinkering.
Thanos has only appeared once before, in 76049 Avenjet Space Mission, although he will surely be seen again in 2018 as Avengers: Infinity War - Part I is released. This minifigure consists almost exclusively of blue and pearl gold, with a some simple printing on the front and back of the torso which matches the large shoulder armour element and the Infinity Gauntlet, represented here by an existing glove component in a new colour.
I would have loved to see some printing to represent the gems on the top of the Infinity Gauntlet but am satisfied even without them as we will probably see a brand new gauntlet element next year. Thanos' cunning grin is printed on the head and his skin is lavender in colour which looks great. It must have been very difficult to capture the majesty of Thanos in the style of the Mighty Micros but I think the graphic designer has done an excellent job.
The Completed Model
Iron Man's vehicle is reminiscent of the Flash's racer from 76063 Mighty Micros: The Flash vs. Captain Cold. I would have appreciated some greater differentiation but the model looks great, with a sleek design from the front and an attractive colour scheme which matches that of its driver. I like the consistent width of the tyres and the smooth finish is ideal for racing. The only notable improvement which could have been made to the front of the vehicle is perhaps the addition of a printed arc reactor on the 1x2 slope.
The rear is totally unique, with four repulsors which can be angled on hinges for maximum manoeuverability. These relate directly to Iron Man so are perfectly suited to his car and they look brilliant, with yellow cowling around the trans-light blue thrusters. As usual, there is room for a minifigure with short legs to stand behind the steering wheel.
A successful Mighty Micro should be recognisable as belonging to a particular character and Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet vehicle is perhaps the best example of that yet. The shape of the glove has definitely been captured and the colour scheme is excellent, with a combination of pearl gold, metallic gold and dark tan which replicates the chrome of the gauntlet quite well. Each finger is individually articulated so the model can be clenched into a fist to punch opposing Mighty Micros.
The back of the vehicle simulates the rounded cuff of the gauntlet and features four new macaroni tiles as well as six metallic gold 1x1 slopes which are exclusive to this set. It is nice to see so many new elements in this small model and I will certainly be looking to purchase another copy just for the parts included at some point over the next few months.
Five of the Infinity Gems are mounted on the back of the gauntlet. Unfortunately there is no room for the red Power Gem but most of the others can be easily identified as being the Time, Mind, Reality and Soul Gems. The pink stone is unusual but is presumably intended to represent the purple Space Gem which allows the user to manipulate spacial positioning and can even be used to achieve omnipresence!
Overall
This is by far my favourite Mighty Micros set to date. The minifigures are tremendous and the vehicles are equally impressive, with Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet racer representing the character perfectly while Iron Man's car includes a detailed repulsor structure at the rear which I like very much despite the familiarity of the rest of the model.
The distinctive style of the Mighty Micros does not appeal to everyone but I recommend giving this set a try even if you have been hesitant in the past. At the very least it includes a marvellous selection of parts and I think it represents the very best which the subtheme has to offer.

I'm glad they included the infinity stones
Love it, it's fantastic. Wolverine vs. Magneto is pretty good, too. At the same time, Spider-Man vs. Scorpion is pretty awful...
I ignored these until Target had them for $6-7 with a $10 off $50 coupon. They are really fun builds if you buy them at a slight discount.
I only want Iron Man head and Spider-Man head... expensive, isn't it :)
I've been waiting for one of these to grab my attention enough to bother buying it. This will be the one. Love the old-school Iron Man fig, & can see uses for quite a few of the new parts/colors included.
Am I the only one who only sees the Vault Dweller uniform from the fallout series in Thanos' torso? I can imagine if more people see that, then the aftermarket price of that might be a bit high. Also, I really do not like the new ironman helmets. I've gotten every ironman helmet variant (and minifigure) thus far, excluding the cc stuff, and I'm reluctant to add those to the collection. They're just...clunky?
Awesome little set. Iron Man is cool and Thanos' vehicle comes with a bunch of great parts. I just wish the price was lower here in Finland...
I really like the selection of pieces in the set. I certainly will have to buy this. I only have one other Mighty Micros set, with The Flash.
I think Lego has been doing a good job with these. Fun looking little sets that really should appeal to kids. But they are just a little too cartoonish for my taste. My biggest issue with them is the short legs. If it were for the short legs I think I'd be buying them. Great review. Wonderful to get details on stuff I plan on buying but have an interested in.

Revealing my inner nerd, but I was also about to ask, "but where's the sixth jewel?" Maybe he can hold that one in his free hand or something? As a vehicle version of the Infinity Gauntlet, it's not a bad effort. I still don't buy any of these, but I appreciate the design.
its getting annoying, I've been wanting minifigures of Marvel & DC characters in these classic costumes but Lego keeps putting them in these Mighty Micro sets instead of regular sets

I love the expressions on the minifigures. I tend to think of the Mighty Micros characters as being kids in Halloween costumes playing on fancy bumper cars at an amusement park, rather than being the "proper" versions of the comic characters, though.
@PaulH40 that is the same reason that I started getting these. Sometimes I take the heads and put child ones in its place and then put the head in their hand as if it is a mask.
This iron man helmet is not a bad idea at all. The original one is so bulky! With a non-childish printing it could work, I wonder if TLG will try it.
@Yooha In all of the summer sets in this wave, they are using this new helmet mold.
For all those that lament the short legs:
Why not just buy them on the secondary market to make a complete fig?
Seems completely weird to avoid the entire line with such an easy fix.
