Review: 30522 Batman in the Phantom Zone
Posted by Huw,If you're in the UK you can pick up a 30522 Batman in the Phantom Zone with The Times newspaper tomorrow or send off for one online.
It contains a bog-standard Batman minifigure and a Kryptonian Robot Guard.
The version of Batman in the set is the most common, sh318, which appears in 5 sets.
More interesting is the Kryptonian Robot Guard. A lot of small and spiky pieces are used to give it a menacing appearance.
The guards surround the Phantom Zone Projector in the film, impeding someone's mission to retrieve it, but they are not encountered by Batman so including him in the set is a bit of a shame particularly as the character that does come across them is equally important and comparatively rarer.
It's rare for flying things in polybags to be provided with a stand so the transparent one included here is most welcome.
It's definitely worth the cost of The Times, so get on down to Martin's or McColl's tomorrow morning!

It's great that it's not in the freakin' Faily Mail any more.
I was going to pass on this, but if it has a transparent stand . . . well, I don't have many transparent pieces!
I wonder: How can we get Lego to team up with The Guardian for their next giveaway?
1) For accuracy, yeah, this set should have come with someone other than Batman.
2) The Phantom Zone Projector would have been nice to get too.
It's also available with today's copy of Irish Independent in Ireland, collect the toy from SuperValu stores. Same as yesterday, strange to have the same polybag available two days in a row, but hey it's a nifty little set with Batman for €2. :)
It's also being given away to AMC Stubs members who see it in 3-D opening weekend in USA.
A nice set with variety, love it.
Transparent stand? Okay, may have to get multiple
I like how dangerous and menacing the guard is. I picked this up in early January at a Target store.
There already in the USA as well
I just picked one up at my local target in the holiday valentine section
I very nice set I might get another just for the pieces
Breaking news: The polybag isn't available at McColl's/Martin's newsagents after all. I just came back from my local McColl's after getting up at 5.30am and trudging through freezing rain only to be told that lots of branches won't have it.
You might want to phone ahead, but in my past experience of McColl's the customer service is so poor that you're as likely as not to be misinformed, i.e. told they do have it when they don't, or they don't have it when they do.
I have complained about McColl's poor customer service before to their head office only to get a stock response full of corporate platitudes back. If ever there was a company that didn't care about their customers, McColl's/Martin's is it.
I'm not on Twitter, but if anyone wants to tweet all the above, please do.
Yes, I could send off for the polybag online but I don't know who they are using for their deliveries. If it's Royal Mail, I won't receive it. For no reason that I know of, Royal Mail no longer delivers post to my building and, as far as I know, throws post for my building away. Another great British company.
I can confirm that my localish branch didn't have any delivered.
tried 2 stores in newbury - no lego
This isn't a good start for a new paper and shop.
Oh dear, what a disaster... I can see it's mentioned on the front cover: http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/660/cpsprodpb/1DDE/production/_94264670_times.jpg
Lego not delivered to Hayle branch. Can't help thinking the link above is a scam. Does the times offer a mail order option?
Only one of the two Martins stores in Macclesfield had it. It's a great little set. The shop which didn't have it were annoyed as they are getting alot of people asking about it.
5 minute walk to the Hatfield branch, picked 2 up no problem. Voucher torn out .
Was lucky that my local had some delivered, they only got a small bag of around 10 of the set. To be honest I was expecting to come away empty handed, the guy behind the till had no idea what I was talking about, but luckily he asked the manager who said that he had the bag in the office.
Good luck to those out hunting for these today.
I just ordered one from the online link hopefully I will receive one in the post next week, if not I will be sure to inform you all ??
Just checked Emmer Green Reading shop. Nothing delivered. Guy said they were trying to get some sent over from central Reading shop tomorrow.... pointless. Why did Lego think McColls was a good idea!
On a different note, my local TRU has a LEGO Batman Movie freebie - so.e kind of store exclusive Batmobile. It's a black Smart car with wings!
What a disaster, no Lego at both Martins, cannot contact the times on Facebook or messenger, called their freephone number & got passed from pillar & post, asked to check at stoke store( I am in Hertfordshire), then put back in automated loop & no option works goes round & round. Bought 2 papers for £1.50 & now have to pay postage & don't need a paper purchase.
Collected mine from Martins in Dunstable. Was a bit of a surprise that they had them.
Walked to my local McColls and they hadn't had any delivered. drove to my next closest one and they didn't have any either. People might be happy that the DM isn't being used anymore, but maybe The Times should partner with WHSmiths as they never seemed to have any issues. I remember McColls having a week long promo a couple of years ago and there being lots of problems then too. Ah well an hour of my Saturday morning lost then. Time to just order online.
Update: Returned to my local McColl's and they had them. Seems they came in late despite being told earlier in the day that they wouldn't be getting them. Total chaos.
been round a few near me, they either hadn't received any or didn't know what I was talking about, and their "cheaper than RM postage" is a joke. I'm glad they stopped using the Daily Mail, but why not keep using WH Smiths???
Just been to my local McColls (Southampton), and they didn't have any. I asked if any o th other McColls in the city outskirts would and apparently 1 other didn't have them either. A very poor show from The Times on this, assuming it the newspaper company that organises which outlet to collect them from. WHSmith was so much better. Not happy.
Total joke. When eventually these pressure groups find everything offensive this is a taste of what you end up. Restricting the supply of these to such a niche distribution network that nobody can get them. Might as well cancel this now and be done with it. Very disappointed by this turn of events. No real winners.
I saw the movie last night at AMC and they gave me a polybag for each ticket by asking at the customer service counter. I'm not a Stubs member and I didn't see it in 3-D.
Talk about first world problems...
Just come back from seeing the film - really good fun and plenty of gags for kids and adults
If anyone has the chance to get it, completely recommended, even if just for the Batman minifigure.
Seems to be like many other, went to 3 stores, rang another 3 within quite a radius of my house and none had a delivery of the polys, one store said they might get them monday, which will be handy with no vouchers available. Please Lego go back to using Smiths, never had any issues with them. Martin's/MC Colle seems to have been a huge mess up, as one store manager I spoke to said "it's a huge embarrassment for the company".
I got to my local Martin's at 8.45am and they had already run out! The Shopkeeper said that they weren't sent many. Lucky I went to another shop slightly more out of the way and they had some so managed to get a couple.
Before I saw the movie I thought that guard was the Phantom Zone.
After emailing The Times they have told me to call Mcolls customer service & they will send them too me. Tel 01277 376374. Currently recorded message with the ability to leave a message, they are open mon-fri.
Got mine this morning (Sunday). Apparently they were sent out from Menzies distribution centres by Royal Mail instead of via the newspaper distribution network. Interestingly the store I tried on Saturday didn't have the polybag but offered to cut the coupon out of the paper for me so that the store's records matched; ebay anyone?
I was at a Target store today and they had a huge pile of them, so of course I picked one up. Only Lego Batman set I'll probably get, wanted something from the movie but the sets so far that I like I don't want to put the $ out for. Really looking forward to seeing the movie soon.
Same problem im belper store. Assistant didnt know what i was talking about but manager said none had been deliverd
Update: visited original Martins this morning & they had been delivered!
I emailed mcolls customer service on saturday and got a cakk from them today to say sorry and ask for my address si they could send it ne
I ordered this on the 11th from mediapromo and have yet to receive it. Anyone else having the same issue?
@soton_legoman - yes, still waiting for mine as well. Sounds like a balls-up on multiple fronts.
tried my local in bromsgrove, none. the staff said they never receive any promotions for anything that is 'martins' brand.
didn't want to waste the petrol cost in getting another from redditch, so had to buy one online (after already buying the paper).
it arrived, but it was posted 2nd class. since when is £2.45 worth 2nd class?
not happy with LEGO or The Times choice of using Martins.
