I always wondered about the logistics of having a dragon hauling the carriage ... but I suppose the designer added wings to the carriage just in case the dragon took off mid-transport.
A friend of mine had this set when I was younger. I liked the idea of the background cave piece but I always thought that it should have had some studs on it to place LEGO on.
I have it but not the cave. it was my favourite castle theme as a child, obviously, as it had lots of dragons.
That cave piece looks terrible
Fright Knights was the current Castle theme when I was a kid first becoming aware of Lego as a thing (and the only toy that ever held my attention). It's cute in a lot of ways, but I see why a lot of Castle fans don't like it, and I don't remember it fondly enough to buy any of the sets on Bricklink. That dragon mold is pretty cool, though. It's the only Lego dragon besides the green Ninjago Movie dragon that I might like enough to buy.
While I loved that we now had a black dragon (to go alongside the green dragon that came out originally. In my Lego city, the two were brothers, but the black dragon had been captured and brainwashed by the evil Bat lord, requiring rescue by the heroes) ... and yeah, I also really liked that we had another clearly villainous character in the evil Bat Lord (and his witch underling) ... but I always thought the Fright Knights was a step down (in the late 90s) after such lovely castle themes in the early to mid 90s with the dragon and lion knights. I mean, it was nice and different, but it still felt like a step backwards.
This dates from the era when Lego frequently released two versions of a set with and without an accessory (6047-1 is the other version). Other pairs of sets from this era:
6999-1 and 6900-1 (Cyber Saucer)
6909-1 and 6907-1 (Sonic Stinger)
6499-1 and 6495-1 (Time Tunnelator)
1728-1 and 6145-1 (Crystal Crawler)
6109-1 and 6140-1 (Sea Creeper)
Great set with a HURP: Huge Ugly Rock Piece. ;P
I have discovered BURP and LURP acronyms coming out from my dark ages some years ago, but I see with this one that we can have worse : this "free" cave looks damn awful doesn't it? I did not even knew it had been used and released by TLG... Was it manufactured by Lego? As mentioned in comments not a single stud on it... For the rest, cool castle set again.
Woah! Lepin! Make me a Cave!
That's an interesting set.
It’s a SLURP! (Super large ugly rock piece) :)
April Fool arrives, two days late
I renember passing casually by the side of this set on a store, I didn't payed much attention then. That cave may prove useful but as other have said, Lego needs to add studs on it if they are ever going to re release it.
@phi13 So that explains that blue crystal thingy I was given with a bunch of parts from a family friend. They had some other nonLEGO stuff in there, too, so I looked one day on Bricklink just to see if it actually was LEGO because nowhere on it are studs, or even a LEGO logo. It was there but then I either never bothered to check what set it was from, or it was listed as not being part of any set at the time (Looking at it now, it's listed under gear while the cave is a raised baseplate. lolwut? .-.). I should try to see if I can use it one day since it is the same size as a normal 32x32 baseplate. As for this cave, it appears to be near impossible to make look any good along regular bricks. Even the base is all weird: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=4110165
This set (which I don't have) along with 6007 Bat Lord (which I do), make claim to featuring the first minifigure vampire. Although Bat Lord was not officially identified as a vampire by LEGO, his face print is very suggestive.
