This is one I really wanted as a young child, inspiring me to use simple materials from around the house like cardboard, wood scraps & glue to make my own little toy ships. I feel very fortunate to own the real thing as an adult.
Was this one loosely based on the real “Fire Fighter”? The rather famous FDNY fireboat. Now a floating museum at South Street seaport.
I have this one. From my childhood! My own 7 & 10 yr old boys play with it and we have taken it into our swimming pool! It still stands (or is it floats?) the test of time! Love this boat!
I think I had this one as a kid. I might have had the newer one, 4025, but I don't think so. I think we got it as part of a 2nd hand lot, but again, I'm not so sure. All I know for sure is we had the red hull parts :O
Edit: we had a red keel weight, so it must have been this one. 4025 has a black keel weight.
Great set! My first LEGO sets are from about that time, 483 rocket base or 600 police car for example. But sadly I don't own any of those old modular boat hulls...
This is it! My first "big" set. Here in Europe it had number 316-1. It the age of 6 years it was a treasure to own. At that time the bigger set boxes were like a matchstick box. The box was still an important part of the set. Many ideas for alternate builds on the back of the box inspired me as a kid. I still own this great set and even have the box. It is still a treasure to own for me, a great piece of Lego history.
I had this set as a kid. I loved it! I want it back.
I had this as a kid. I still have one of the pieces for the boat itself, but not the entire thing.
I remember getting this (or rather the European 316-1 version) for Christmas in 1978 when it came out.
I LOVED the technic-built water cannons.
A great set.
