• Works excellent on so many levels.

Written by (Unspecified , gold-rated reviewer) in Denmark,

So, my city layout is slowly starting to come together, and so i found myself in the position of needing civilian homes, and the city line is not exactly overflowing with civilian sets, especially not houses and homes. I looked at this set, and i thought that it had most everything i need. I did not buy the set for the house alone, there are a few reasons.

First of all, as i said, i need houses, second of all, i am starting to collect the trucks in the city theme, and the one in this set is awesome, more on this later!, and finally, i also own the 7747 wind turbine transport, and that is all well and good, being able to transport a great big windmill, but what about setting it up? And the crane in this set, fits the wanted description of that job nicely. :) So as a result, i bought this set for its individual elements, and not as a contruction site, and it worked out really well.

You get 4 workers, all fairly standart, well designed minifigs, and then you get a driver for the truck, also a nicely designed minifig, nothing special here. Only thing is, i wish Lego would print the back of the minifig torso to, instead of just the front.

Now, the set itself, you get some kind of an elevator/lift, a nice little addition, and well designed, not much to say about it. Looks good, works well. I use the truck to transport this, to the windmill sight.

Then there's the digger. Now, seeing that i do not use the set for the intended purpose of being a construction site, i have little to no use for this. Nonetheless it is a nice little digger, well designed, and well built. The whole rollcage opens up, so you can easily place a minifig inside.

So now we come to my personal favourite, the truck. I am very very fond of the truck line, well, the six-stud wide part of it, anyway, and i am working on getting them all, including ones not sold seperatly, but included in bigger sets. As i mentioned earlier, i think that this one is excellent, i really really like the color scheme. I read someone complaining about the roof being hard to remove, but i think that this person missed the point. The roof is attached with 2 studs in the back, and 6 studs in the front, to the windshield, so he suggested removing mirrors and so on, and replacing them with a flat tile. Under no surcomstance should you do this! It detracts much from the looks and realism of the truck. The point is, that the windshield, is also only attached by 2 studs, so you not only remove the roof, but the windshield aswell, making it easy to gain acces to the cabin inside. The trailer is good, lego has used this frame several times, and it works well. There's not much detail, but it serves its purpose well. I think that almost all lego trucks must come from the same manifacturer, there's not much variaty on the cabin design, hehe. With the exception of the 7686 helicopter transport, wich has a longnosed cab (I also highly recommend that set, by the way), oh well, getting on a sidetrack here.

As the last vehicle we have the crane itself. While it looks completely awesome, i have a few complaints with this. First of all, the stearing wheel. It is placed so high that the driver can't see out the windshield for it. Now this is understandable, since there is not much room in the cabin. BUT, could they at least not have chosen a color, that doesn't stick out like a soar thumb, as the blue one does? I also think they could have done a better job with the supporting legs, they would be much bigger in real life, and they would just fold into the structure of the truck. These have to manually disassembled, and put into a compartment, hidden underneath the crane part. But then again, this is not real life, this is Lego. My biggest problem with this set, is that the pulley for the crane falls of, constantly. You litterally have to use both you hands when raising or lowering the crane hook. One to work the pulley, and one to hold it in place, sp that it does not snap of. This limits the playability severely. Other than that i like the crane, as i said, it looks awesome, and the idea behind it is sound.

The final part of the set, is the buildings. I tend to think of it, as an appartment building, with a small shop on the bottom. There's really not much to say about it. There's absolutely no interior, but i can see the reasoning behind this, since it is supposed to be under constrution, there would be no furniture. I'm not really fond of the grey colored walls, but i am theorising that this also, is because it's under construction. Maybe the walls just haven't been painted yet? Maybe it's just supposed to resemble bare concrete. So, considering this, it actually works well. :)

You get a variaty of tools for the truck, a lose shovel, and some road barriers. That should be all.

Anyway, in conclusion (yes yes i know, fiiiinally he's done rambling), this set works excellent on sooo many levels, i just have to give it a top 5/5.

    Best regards.

    Simply beautiful!

Written by (Unspecified , gold-rated reviewer) in Denmark,

I got this set used, along with many other sets, it came completely dissasembled in a plastic bag. It had been owned and played with by a child, and as such, it is, unfortunatly, missing a few pieces. Nothing on the station itself is missing, but one minifig is gone (the driver for the car), and the car itself is missing i few pieces. So, i suspect that the car has been in play, a lot!, and that maybe, it has endured more than it's share of crashes! :) Oh how wonderful it was, being a child, and smashing ones lego cars into everything in sight, hehe. I can rebuild the car easily, but the missing minifig is bothering me a bit. Oh well, for the price i payed, i'm just happy that the station itself is complete. :) And really, other than the few missin parts, the whole thing is en excellent condition, so i'm very happy with it.

Now for the review. This set is perhaps, the most beautiful service station ever created by lego, i am very very pleased by the design of it, it looks just gorgeous with the glass sealing on the pump section, and the car wash, and the big glass windows also on the car wash. I think it gives it a sleek, modern look, so it's just great! For it's size, it's a fairly easy build, and when built, the whole thing is actually very sturdy. One detail that i personely liked, was that the base plate was molded, out of a soft plastic material, instead of the hard ones, that break way to easy. This is more flexible, but that also means you have to be careful when moving it.

Here's a few funny detailes with the set. The turbines on the car wash can be turned every wich way you prefer, the washers in the car wash has a rubber band, so that when you drive a car through them, they are pushing in on the car, great detail, but be advised that the car wash is "one way only". It will break if you drive the wrong way through it without first pushing the washers to the side so the car can get through. The wrong way, being the one shown on the picture, hehe. Finally, the little soda vending machine, actually has little sodas.

theres really only one thing i don't like about the set, and that is, that the little shop has no items in it. There's just a cash register. I think it could have come with some items to.

It comes with 3 minifigs, i only own two of them, but the two i have, are great, it comes with a pretty basic, yellow car, and a black motorcycle. I don't really care for the new type of motorcycle, but it's okay. The car i really like, it's very simillar in design to the 7236 police car, but there are a few key differences. It also comes with various assortments af brooms, brush, etc.

One thing i will note is that some of the bigger trucks won't fit through it, at least not without some help, for example the 7686 helicopter transport, wich is to high with the copter, and to wide with the sideview mirrors. To bad, trucks need fuel to, you know.

For those who complain about it not fitting into a base-plate only city layout, that might be true, but what i would do, and what i will do when i eventually have the sets, and the room to build my own little town, is build the town on plywood, and then just paint the entrance, and the exit to the station, directly on the plywood, or maybe on a thin plastic sheet, so it can be moved if the city layout changes. The car wash sticking out can be fixed easy by just adding a piece of base plate the correct size. These are not big problems, at least not in my opinion.

Anyway, i simply love this set, so, top 5/5 from me, you should find this set if you can. Goes great with the 8402 sports car to. :)

    Best Regards.

    My first lego "big rig"!

Written by (Unspecified , gold-rated reviewer) in Denmark,

Let me start of by saying, that i am a truck driver by livelyhood, and on top of that, i myself transport "special" cargo, generelly oversized things, and so i have a unique insight into the design details on these models.

So, on to the review, first of all, there are a few flaws, most of them is only things that would help make the unit more realistic, so i wont mention them here. You can contact me if you want the full list. Two things i WILL mention, is that the compartments on the trailer, are only attached by 2 studs, and seeing as how i find myself gripping them every time i have to handle the trailer, i am pulling them of all the time. Easily fixed though. And then there is the helicopter, the blades really need some kind of locking mechanism, to keep them from spinning during transportation.

Other than that, i am overall really really really impressed with the detailes, and the functionallity, and playability of this set.

The long nosed cab is the first of it's kind, in the new truck line. At least that i am aware of, and they pulled it off expertly. When built it is extremely sturdy, and it has so many excellent detailes!
It has steps leading to the cabin, and the back of the cabin, it has rounded fuel tanks, it has opening doors, and opening front hood, there's even a small engine under the hood (fake of course, but looks nice), it has excellent exhaust pipes, but perhaps the best detail of all, is the little red coffee mug on the dashboard. I asure you, almost no trucker would leave home without it, hehe. Over all, simply a brilliant cab! Hope there will be more of these. On a side note, i was actually given a wrong piece in the bag. I got a blue piece, where i should have gotten a white. Luckely it was not a special piece, so i could replace it with what i had laying around.

Now, the Trailer. Nothing spectacullar really, just a trailer. Easy to build, sturdy enough, with the exception of the cabinets, as i mentioned earlier. A good thing is, that the rear wheels is mounted in such a way, that it gives the illusion of suspension, when the trailer is hooked up to the cab.

The motorbike, allso nothing special. It's good to have a scout vehicle when transporting oversized cargo, so it's nice enough. Would have preferred a car, though. There aren't really that many sets that containg motorbikes, so it's okay i guess.

Finally, the helicopter. I think that this really shines in it's design, it looks great, it's fun to build, and it has a couple of nice details, such as the compartments, the camera and lights, and i especially like the tail design.

The set comes with 3 minifigs, all very nice, and there's an assortment of tools, also very nice.

All in all, i am very impressed with this set, and i will most likely start collecting the new truck line. :)

    5/5.

    Best Regards.

    Aerial greatness

Written by (Unspecified , gold-rated reviewer) in Denmark,

This little plane is just pure greatness. That's pretty much all that needs to be said about this set. But, seeing as how this is supposed to be a review, i'd better give you a bit more than that. :)

My father bought me this set as a child. He has been obcessed with airplanes, especially from World War II, as long as i can remember, so i guess this was an attempt to "merge" intrests.

I really like the design of this set, it's not very big, but it's not completely small either, so it's a medium sized plane. I think it looks realistic in a way that not many other of the smaller plane's pull of. It's not a complicated build, but still it's not one of those builds, that's over before you begin it. I'd say that the time it takes to build, is a nice time. It doesn't take so long that you get frustrated, and it's not so short that it's not even fun. When the set is assembled, it has lot's of playability.

The set is really sturdy to, the tail section is by far it's weakest part. The wing section opens up, for easy access to the inside of the plane. Unfortunatly, the wings come of way to easy, when opening them. A nice feature on the inside, is the brick, that has instrument's on them. Nice little detail. I really also like the side windows, i can't remember seeing other sets with this feature.

I think that the small gass pump is a nice feature. Unfortunatly, i lost mine many years ago. :( I hope to replace it some day. Overall, it's a really nice set, and as mentioned in another review, your town airport need's more than just big commercial jets.

This set resembles the Turbo prop (6687) in it's design, and that is another plane i would really like to own someday. Unfortunatly, it's not easy at all to find the older models complete here in denmark, but as thay say, everything comes to those who have patience. I am allso seriously considering getting the new Seaplane (3178), only because i think it looks a bit like this one. They must have based the design of of this set. I generelly don't like the newer sets, so the seaplane might very well be the first new Lego set i get in 10 years.

Anyway, i would recommend this set to absolutely everyone, who enjoys Lego's in any way shape or form, and if your town has an Airport, you should wait no longer! Hunt this set down, right now, you will not regret it.

    A top 5/5 from me.

  • Love is in the air.

Written by (Unspecified , gold-rated reviewer) in Denmark,

Oh man, here we go! I just love this little piece of Lego cuteness!

When resently i started assembling all my old Lego sets, i vaguely rembered, having somekind of ambulace or something like that, and i didn't have the manual, nor could i remember the model number or how it looked. So i searched around for "Lego Ambulance", and i didn't find anything i could relate to. Then i startet looking through the town sets by year, and when i stumbled on this set, oh man, that's when i felt all warn and fussy inside! There it was, the cute little set from my childhood years, the special little car, that was my first Lego Ambulan... Wait.. RED CROSS?? Oh well, it's stil very cute, even if it's not really an ambulance. :)

The model itself is built like a brick (no pond intended), it's very sturdy, and it will not fall apart, even if you accidently drop it of the table. It has high design quality and lots of detail, like the roof that opens, the widow in the backdor can be opened, and of course the little compartment in the back for the nurde/doctors suitcase. It's built on a one-pice chassis, and in itself it's not a very complicatet build. Still there's parts enough, so that it leaves room for experimentation with the design.

Really nice little set, and if this is not already part of your town's medical facility, you should wait no more! get it, get it now! :)

This set gets a top 5/5 from me.

On a side note. This is from a time when Lego pieces could be considered more or less universal. Not really any special parts, cast for just one model, and then rarely or never used again. I really wish Lego would go back to using their classic mid 70's to mid 90's designs, and parts.

    Best Regards.
    Christian.
