• Ninja'ed

The Castle Ninja sets of a few years ago were mostly mediocre. This set is amazing by comparison to those. The use of the old Ninja bricks gives this building and the former theme some semblance of similiarity, but this one blows the competition out of the water.

Colour-wise, the black/red/tan works great and gives the three-story building a look that is interesting. The various flags and architectural elements, the use of the brown and light green bricks and the dragon heads on the roof brings the WOW factor for the building. The staircase to the main door, eventhough plain is manificient.

It's not just the building alone that makes the set great. Nice touches include the minifigs with oriental motifs and a dragon with gold accents. The set includes the usual catapault, but also rockets for offensive power.

The Adventurers' part of this set is overshadowed by everything else, but that doesn't mean it's bad - the vehicle, complete with threads is basic, but nicely constructed, and is complete with the big box of tools.

This is probably the best Ninja set ever (eventhough it's not in that theme).

The surprising thing is that this set is so good despite the fact that it is built from BURPs. The structure looks interesting, but what is nifty about it is that built into the structure are various castle bits and stairs to suggest that the cave is not just a natural one but is man-made. The looks seems a bit weird, but is perfect for a cave/castle combo. And the set comes with the obligatory dragon, a knight and a few soldiers for fun.

This is probably the best Dragon Knights set. The wizard's house with a wizard and a soldier. The house is nicely built and it looks great from the outside. There's a hinge that opens up to show the inside and again it's superb. There's a fireplace and a worktable and scrolls inside. Nice details include flaming torches and the greenery magically growing out of the house.

  • Wham Ram Bam

This is a great mid sized set that improved on its previous incarnation 6061 by replacing the siege tower with a battling ram. That's not the only thing that got improved. This time around, both the factions are represented in the set with the wall going to the Black Falcons and the Ram being manned by the Gold Lions.

The wall is interestingly designed with hinges at two areas enabling it to fold into a lopsided U shape. The hinges also enable it to be attached to both ends of either 6073 or 6074 to make a bigger castle. The tower is also interesting built with the corner bricks to give the wall some depth and three levels. Sadly there are no stairs on the tower. The door is also a little bit spartan and is only kept in place by a simple barricade. Still this is a big improvement.

The ram itself is also interesting, with stairs to the top level to enable boarding the castle parapets. The ramming mechanism is manual (not spring loaded) and it's a bit flimsy at times, but it does work.

6 minifigs complete the set, 3 from each of the factions and this set is great alone, or together with the other castle sets.

  • A true Legend

Yes, there's a wall in this set which can be connected to the rest of the castle sets with walls, but this set is more than the wall! This set actually has a little house that's setup as a tavern. Granted there isn't much inside - no beds, only a big table and two bricks that can be used as pretend stools... but there is a fireplace and there is a sheltered part that can be used as a stable for the horse.

This set is atypical in a few other ways - it is one of the first to include Lego flowers, for example, and the only one with red corner/45º walls and of course, one of the few sets with a female minifig. This set is great in so many ways that when they were looking for a set to launch Legends, they picked this one out of the many Castle sets.
