Some remarks
First of all, this is quite a nice little set. There are a number of specialized parts in it that you just won't find anywhere else, such as the surfboard and the bicycle.
- There are stickers in the set, but they all fit on single pieces so pulling the set apart is not a problem, and except for the camper's top they are relatively generic pieces that the stickers attach to in the first place.
- The kit comes in two bags, each labeled by number so that the build is very easy.
- As stated in other reviews, the fish does not stay attached to the grill very well, nor does it have an easy place to stow away.
- The camper seems pretty solidly built, though there does appear to be a little bit of wonkiness when you try to close up everything, as the back half seems to want to be shifted slightly left or right of centerline.1 out of 1 person thought this review was helpful.
Easy build, but heavy hunting
This is so far a good set... I am in the middle of building it at the moment. As said before, there is quite a bit of repetition, but all you have to do is look at the set and you can tell that there is going to be some amount of repetition simply because of what it is... at least it isn't as bad as the repetition that occurs in the Ferris Wheel (4957-1).
I think my biggest peeve is the stickers... mainly because the stickers that came with mine were crumpled and some of them had come unstuck from the backing and were instead attached to some of the bags. I think the sticker sheets need to be placed in a bag with a cardboard backing so that they don't crumple like this. This is the second set that this has happened to me, and I really don't appreciate it.
I haven't heard the motor running, but given its position and exposure, I would have to guess that it is going to be noisy. A small building surrounding it would have been nice so that it is not visible, but I guess if you were to look at a normal carousel in a county fair, you would see that the motor is quite visible there as well, so there is some authenticity to it.
Chantastic's review is pretty much spot on, otherwise. The one other item I would mention is that the bags are not labeled or numbered, so it is a bit harder to progress through the build since you don't have any solid order in the bags. It is obvious that some of the bags will be used at a specific stage, and you don't have to open them immediately, but I just got into the first stages of building the base of the carousel that actually turns, and already 3/4 of the bags have had to be opened. This creates a huge number of pieces out and about that are becoming harder and harder to keep track of.14 out of 14 people thought this review was helpful.
One of my favorite classic town sets
OK, this is probably one of my favorite town sets as a kid. For some reason the little race car that is in it was just the neatest car I could have! I actually have two of these sets, and am really glad that I got a second one.

Classic bucket of bricks
Let's face it, this is simply a big bucket of bricks. Nothing fancy, but it does come with a book with ideas that are perfect for a young beginner who is first learning how to put Lego together. The big plastic bucket is also nice for the first time owner because it is a place for them to put their bricks when they aren't playing with them.
As I said, the book that comes with it is filled with different ideas on things that can be built, but more importantly it shows how the bricks can be put together, and can be used as a basic teaching tool.
I gave this a five, not because of the special pieces or anything like that, but because I feel it is a very good introductory set for children to learn from.3 out of 3 people thought this review was helpful.
Semi-Compatible
Yes, this is a simple set with just a cross piece and a number of straight rails, but it was quite useful for certain track layouts.
And I beg to differ on the incompatibility.... they are semi-compatible with later rail sets like the RC based ones. Yes, there is a bit of a gap between rails, but it is possible to link the older blue rails with the new generation of L-Scale rails.2 out of 2 people thought this review was helpful.
