One of the best freebies to date!

Written by (Parent , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

I initially got this for me. Yes, not knowing how my son would like this series (and me being more of the sci-fi type) I bought over $35 of LEGO to get this guy. The timing was great as I purchased some minis (as surprise gifts) and the Log Cabin (an item my son has ben asking for since it's release) to get this guy. Besides this is my first set from this new series.

Little did I know that my awesomely cool Jetpack guy was soon to be confiscated and favoured among the aforementioned. Thusly I switch my written review from that as an AFOL to a Parent...or maybe I'll comingle them.

I knew the minute I showed my son this freebie that he'd want to build it...and he did. Very exited to build it as a matter of fact. Here are some of the things my 6 year old pointed out: The double faces (one a sort of quizzicle look, the other a gung-ho, "defeat all aliens" combat yell. He simply loves double faced minis and I think this should almost become standard. He enjoyed the sky blue colour. I have never seen this colour with LEGO bfore and I must say it is brilliant and very cool looking. The Jetpack! My son loved building the jetpack and proceeded to zip around the room with this guy before running upstairs to introduce him to the others.

Other great features (not mentioned by my son, but noticed by me) were the great new helmet design. (the visor does not raise up, but you do get an extra clear face shield piece) The print on the figure (like the head) is on both sides of the body and quite detailed for a flight/jump suit. The accessories consist of binoculars and a newly designed ray gun, and the armor/chest plate which allows you to attach the jetpack to the figure. This part can come off fairly easy with play, but not a bad design overall and mine attached pretty well.

The jetpack itself is a fairly easy build, but still fun to do. It has a very nice design and when complete the pack is almost (barely) the same length as the figure, so he has stability when standing and won't tip backwards. I wish LEGO would put out the mini figure bases they do with the mystery figures so character like this can stand along with a sharp display.

Overall a great little mini for a low price (the spending of $35, I mean) awesome to have a few of these guys as a squadron or just to collect from a completionist point of view. You won;t be dissappointed with this addition, especially since the concept is not so far fetched to comingle with NASA or town LEGO sets.

I kissed a cavegirl and I liked it.

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

I fell in love with this mini. (and no, I didn't kiss her - geez!) I love her rubbery original hairdo, I love that there is a removable bone that she can either hold or use as a hairpiece, I love how insanely huge her club is and I love how detailed the decals are on this one with the tattered animal print clothes (on front and back).

The lack of cave people in the LEGO world does not bother me. I know that dinosaurs didn't exist at the same time, but for the sake of the Flintstones, you can use these minis with the old Adventurers Dinos as one option, likewise as a museum mannequin and of course just as a mini going to a costume party.

The best feature about this mini and the main reason she was such a surprise to me was her face. The little scuff on her cheek shows how dirty her conditions are or perhaps how hard at work she has been with that massive club of hers. (perhaps while her caveman of a mate is slacking off) I also enjoy that she has apparently invented lipstick and is wearing it...now that I think about it, maybe that "scuff" I mentioned was just her attempt at blush. Her facial expression is what truly captured my attention though. This no-nonesense gal has a raised eyebrow and pouty lips as if to say "You said WHAT to me, now?" (that poor, poor neanderthal of a mate she has, ugh!) and her long, lowered eyelashes give this cavewoman a sense of intelligence almost inferring the real genius behind every great caveman.

Definitely one of my favourites from this series, I think you will be pleassantly surprised with this find.

Now I guess I better go ebay the caveman.

    Watch out for snakes!

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

I am very excited today as I received 4 of these from LEGO.com and they were all different characters.

Cleopatra here is one very pretty figure: The bright blue highlights against the intricate gold print on a field of white (robe) is simply beautiful. The blue colour is also used as her eyeshadow and gives her perfect lil LEGO face a very dreamy quality. Her hair is made of hard black plastic and accentuates the Egyptian look well, it also features a gold and teal headband print. For as bulky as the hair might seem when putting this mini together, it's a very tight fit on her head which was a nice surprise.

The only piece that is seemingly unoriginal is the snake. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense (or alternately they could have molded a gold staff or ankh) just stating the obvious.

Overall this character is great and a nice welcome espeically with all of the Egyptian themed sets this year. You will not be sorry with any of these minis, especially the Egyptian Queen.

What's drunk, sweaty, has a banana and wears a gorilla suit?

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

The correct answer is Me, but in this case we'll let it slide and say its this Gorilla Suit Guy.

This LEGO mini is PURE GENIUS! From the way the eyes line up with the holes in the gorilla mask to the zipper in the back of the suit, it's one well thought out mini. The ultimate kicker being the sweaty, unhappy LEGO character revealed within when you lift the mask off; this mini should be an auto-sought-after mini from the get go. After all, who doesn't want a guy in a gorilla suit representing *anything* in LEGO ville?

This guy is not the easiest to find when molesting LEGO bags of the season three variety: The banana being the easiest item to grope is still small enough to make this a frustrating, yet worthy find. The uniqueness of this character is outstanding. The mask alone is something to behold in the LEGO world and ironically the item you feel for (banana) is the most common piece of this LEGO mini.

Sure it's an easy build as most figures are, but it's a mini you'll be ecstatic to find as well as one of the best out there. LEGO hit the proverbial nail on the head with the costumed series (the next being Godzilla Guy - S5) and I cannot recommend this one enough. Well worth me making a fool of myself at a MicroCenter for. (yes for some reason they have LEGOS there, just ask the Roguish one) An overall well-detailed figure that you'll love, guarenteed.

    In the Pink!

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

I just received these from Lego.com this morning n the mail. This last shipment was mostly sale items at lego.com. Knowing that my son really likes to put Lego magnets on the fridge (he really enjoyed his Bricktober Knight and the 78 retro spaceman) I decided to purchase these. PLUS they were reduced to $7.48 which is a great deal for 3 awesome minis.

Packaging is both a pro and a con. Con: kind of a pain to open. Pro: not being easy to open makes it sturdy. The hard cardboard backing makes it great for collectors to store and the bubble encased figures is excellent for displaying. You can feel the magnets pull through the packaging if you place it against a metal surface, however it is not strong enough to hold the 3 figs in the package.

    Who you get:

Dyna-Mite - the main reason I was attracted to this set not having had her before. She has sweet shades, a detailed leather/spy print on *both* sides, a sleek gold mauser lookin gun and (of course) dynamite. Her red hair is a nice design that you don't see too much.

Pirate Girl - The only one of these I already had, but she usually came with bigger or hard to find sets. She, too has print on both sides, a lovely eye-patch and comes with her sword and flint-lock pistol. She has my favourite design for girl-hair.

Pink-Heart Girl - Comes with a green apple and would make a great resident for the apple tree-house. She has a pink vest with heart necklace (very nice detail) and also has print on both sides, however the reverse is merely a couple of cloth creases. Her hair is quite interesting: I originally thought it a shorter bob-cut, but after opening her up I was quite surprised to see a long ponytail hanging down in the back.

This set is 5/5 overall (the 1 for building experience solely because they all came pre-built) and I highly HIGHLY recommend getting this for the not-so-easy to find 3 cool female figures with sweet accessories...especially since they are on sale. A great addition to any Lego Ville!
