    A perfect Lego Pirates set

    Written by (TFOL) in Denmark,

The Eldorado fortress is the perfect set for any Lego pirate fan.

It is full of fun details and play features. We are going to go through this set in a relatively in-depth analysis, starting with the boat and then moving on to the main fort.

The boat is what really tipped me over the edge when deciding which version of this fort I should get.

It has some basic S.N.O.T building techniques which I quite like.

The sails on the boat are perfect. They are made of a cloth material and the middle sail has printing on it. The boat isn't that big, but it still fits all the minifigures. "Where does this ship come from?" you may ask. Well, it comes from set; 6277 Imperial trading post.

I really enjoy this addition. It was the reason i got this version instead of the original, since when i got it, it would be my first pirate set, so i needed a ship.

Moving onto the fort itself, the fort is very pretty, and it uses new parts and pieces very well to emulate the old wall pieces.

Most of the building techniques are kinda basic, but i like the way they attached the stairs.

Now the stairs are lovely. In the original, minifigs couldn't stand on the stairs, but now they can!

They use alot of round tiles, some with studs on them, so minifigs can stand!

There are 5 modules which can connect to each other, so you can mix and match them however you want!

There are three canons in this set which can all be shot!

The modules all have secrets under them which you can look at when they are separated.

One of my favourite play features of this set is the crane! It works very well, and it is very fun to use.

    Pros and cons

    Pros

    Looks pretty!

    Working cannons!

    Crane!

    Ship with pretty sails!

    Cons

    Rock work can get boring.

Minifig printing isn't that good, with the white printing being blueish in tint.

Governor broadside/ The admiral is much worse in my opinion to the original.

    Finale

The set isn't perfect, but it is very close to being that i think the Pros outweigh the Cons tenfold!

    5/5 stars!

    Lego got this right

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

I had this original set when I was a kid and was super excited when Lego decided to pull it out of the vault and re-release it. Been sitting on it for a while just getting excited about the eventual build.

first impressions: Lots of bags, lots of little pieces, and wasn't sure how it would all go. It seems like Lego likes to take all the big pieces and turn them into smaller pieces which drive up the piece count and the price. It's been my experience when Lego does this, that the sets don't look all that good because the little pieces can easily get misaligned during the build and it can look rather hanky when it is complete.

the build: as tedious as the build was, it was actually really well done. The bags and instructions are well coordinated so you can build at your own pace if you can't do it all in one sitting. I LOVE the modularity of the new version. The base plate from the old set is a classic, but the fact you can configure the new set in many different ways makes for a real cool play experience. My son really enjoys the different way and all the neat little secrets hidden throughout the set.

overall: I am considering buying another set to combine it with the one I have. It is such a cool build and Lego totally nailed this re-make. I highly recommend the set!
