Good Set but only Okay Remake and Okay Value

Written by (TFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

This is the newest Battle Pack by LEGO. I previously drafted a review for this set, but it got a little too opinionated so I’ll keep this one a little on the shorter side to prevent that from happening. In general, it’s a good set, but there were some questionable decisions in this set.

    Imperial Dropship

I’m surprised that LEGO decided to remake this after only five years which is a very short time. The color scheme on this one is a little weak, and I am absolutely missing the drop-ship function. This does not function like a drop-ship. You have to pull the dropping part out, not just drop it. The original had a cooler function. The closed cockpit is an interesting revamp. If this drop-ship just had a better dropping function, I would say this is a good remake, but without that function, I prefer the older ones.

    Rebel Scout Speeder

Everything between this and the 2008 version has been absolutely enhanced. The SNOT techniques create a unique shape for this speeder. The new windshield works so much better. The speeder just feels more sleeker than that original version. The cannon is also obviously upgraded. This one was an improvement.

    Stormtroopers

At last, we have been granted with the ability to build our Imperial Army. We got an excellent Clone Battle Pack at the beginning of the year so it is justifiable to get an Imperial Battle Pack. I’m not the biggest fan of the helmets, but I will just wait until LEGO reverts it back to be fully pleased with these helmets. Clone Troopers with helmet holes look better than these guys. Still, this set is still not the ideal Stormtrooper army builder which I will discuss later in the value.

    Rebel Troopers

We’ve been waiting even longer to get these figures. This is the cheapest way to army build the modern rebel troopers which is quite unfortunate. It’s nice to see diversity within these figures. I wouldn’t think that the diversity would be a problem at all to army building these troops. Dual molded legs to represent the boots would be cool, but that is nothing to whine about. Almost as good as these figures can get. We’re very close.

    QT-KT

This figure is what caused me to pull the trigger. Supposedly, this set will retire at the end of the year thus I rushed to get this set all because of this figure. My main reason for this is to collect the 25th Anniversary Figures. I’m definitely not sure if I’ll be collecting them all, but this is one off my checklist. The lack of back printing is absolutely disappointing, and that is a questionable decision. However, it’s still a really nice inclusion.

    Value

I think both sides of the argument to whether or not this set is good value are both absolutely justified. The overpriced argument states that this set should be $10 less (or include two more mini figures) because it include two less mini figures than a battle pack at this price would. (Not counting QT-KT) The other argument states that it is perfectly priced because it includes a bonus mini figure and the builds are more bulky than those of which would be in a battle pack.

I do notice for sure, that these builds are substantially bigger thus the price is at $40, but I feel like for some of us, $37 would have just felt so much better. For me, the intention of a set like this is for the mini figures, not builds. So, I feel like there should have been at least another Stormtrooper. I acknowledge that there are bulky builds in this set and a bonus figure, but I cannot look beside the fact that I could get eight figures for $40 with relatively the same builds. It just can’t be $40. It has to be less even if by $3.
