    Best Space Police I set

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in Australia,

This is one very lean, mean-looking spaceship. The wing configuration and the integration of the light and sound elements is probably the best of any Light & Sound set Lego ever did, and the (unique) illuminated control panel piece makes the set worth getting on its own.

The finished set is a masterpiece of swooshability, with the lower wings folding down after lift-off to make ventral fins that give the ship a really menacing, shark-like appearance. In a strong line-up, this is the best of the three Space Police I ships.

This ship must have set fear into the hearts of the Blacktrons - if indeed they have hearts. Until, that is, they tried to flee, and succeeded beyond their wildest dreams - if indeed they have dreams. For, although very well-armed, this ship shares - with the other Space Police I spaceships 6886 and 6986 - a flaw that, once seen, you can't un-see.

    Where are the engines?

For all its sleek looks and clear firepower, this thing shows no sign of a powerplant. Unless it is powered by the Space Police officer's sense of righteous indignation, this ship is going nowhere fast! Happily there are a couple of hinged bars near the back that can be easily used as attachment points for two MOC power plants. Indeed these bars serve no other purpose I can see; it's almost like this was where the powerplants were going to be placed, but Lego ran out of budget or pieces, or something. Given this set was released in the same year the Pirates theme hit the shelves, you couldn't blame the designer for throwing in the towel. The no-powerplant issue was certainly remedied by the time Space Police II came along a few years later.

Still an outstanding set and such is the manufacturing quality that, if you buy one, you should expect the seller to confirm all light and sound pieces are in full working order.

One of the best Lego Space sets of all time!

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

This has got to be my favorite Lego set.

    Pros

    • Classic - This set embodies all the good of Lego Space from the 80's

    • Perfect Size - The set is just the right size it does not take all day to assemble and it is easily swooshable with one hand.

    • Highly Unique Parts - The light up sections are just awesome, and to my knowledge this is the only set to feature a light up control panel.
    • Good Playability - Plenty of movable parts, the light-up feature, as mentioned, and the modular prison pods for the Blacktron figure all add to the fun and interactivity with other space sets.

    Cons

    • Just 2 Minifigs- They probably could have fit a second police officer in the cockpit.

    • Not much else wrong with this set....

The Space Police and Blacktron factions really had excellent color combinations going on.

The two factions were really the first 'goodguys' 'badguys' of the space theme series so this added to the sense of conflict. The Space Police Striker seems like it was really the primary fighter of the Space Police fleet and it could pack quite a punch in hunting down and capturing the Blacktron rogues.

Lights! Camera! Action! Best of Space Police

    Written by (AFOL) in Spain,

This is one of the most special Space Police set. Despite not being the largest ship Space Police, it is very unusual because it has lights. And of course work. The lights module fits within the skeleton of the ship.

Ligths have 2 position: Intermitent & permanent

Great because also its modularity is very curious, because the modules are not to put together but to fit within one in another, the small into the big one. Also we can not forget the prisoner's cell, which is attached at the stern of the ship.

The colours seem to me still to this day highly attractive, black and blue with the trans red.

2 minifigs are included, the policeman and the blacktron. The pieces are very interesting too.

It is worth a reasonable amount of money.

  • The Best of the Space Police!

Written by (Unspecified) in United Kingdom,

I had this set when I was a kid and it was the pride of my entire collection!

There is very little wrong with this kit; movable wings, detachable jail cell, lots of guns, 2 cool minifigs (Blacktron 1 figs were so much cooler than their neon follow-ons). It simply looks amazing, and for those complaining that the lights are 'too much', trust me, when you have the ship built up and in your hands, flick on the switch and bear witness to its awsomeness! The lights are the cherry on top of an incredible looking set. It also lent itself very well to rebuilding into other models, something that the smaller sets were not too hot at. With this set, the possibilities are endless!

I am currently trying to find one of these since, as many of us did, I gave away all of my lego when i hit my late teens. Now I'm wishing I didn't as this set is incredibly hard to find now.

  • great starfighter!

Written by (Unspecified , platinum-rated reviewer) in United States,

It resembles the peacekeeper a bit, but this one is larger. Again, it includes one of the special, switchable jail cells. Well i don't care for light up effects, these can be pretty cool, although similiar are used later in blacktron II, which doesn't make much sense. The cockpit of this ship is brilliantly designed and well thought up.
