    Disappointing and overpriced

The Resident Services Centre and its associated plaza is the centrepiece of your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and so it's an absolutely obvious and necessary subject for this theme, and of course it gives us a wonderful excuse to get a KK Slider figure, maybe the most iconic character in the franchise. Unfortunately, the emphasis is elsewhere.

KK Slider doesn't just appear out of nowhere, he has his campervan, a cute little thing that first appeared in New Leaf. This would be a nice little inclusion, if the campervan were not a behemoth that eats up a tremendous number of parts, and when completed, dwarfs both the figures and the main building itself, while only vaguely resembling the actual vehicle it's based on.

The main building is fine, but it's quite small and oversimplified, with the interior lacking the most essential feature, the large desk behind which both Isabelle and Tom Nook work. I understand set budgets are determined before the actual set is designed, so considering this was always going to be an €80 set, I think it would've been a better design decision to go with a slightly more detailed building with more depth to the interior, and maybe skip the camper. My other critique of the main building is the colour - instead of the earthy brick of the games, this is bright orange. Considering how well the other buildings in the line have managed to capture the Animal Crossing vibe, this seems to really miss the mark.

The other side build, the little café stand, is very basic but quite cute, but it seems to be entirely a Lego invention. It would've been nice to have had the graphics and colours tease at Brewster's famous café instead.

There are three figures included, more than any other AC set, but it still feels like too few for the RRP, especially considering Isabelle is making her second appearance with an identical head. With the literal hundreds of characters in the series, I think a character appearing twice demands a good justification, and Isabelle appearing in her tracksuit, as opposed to her New Leaf winter outfit or one of her main New Horizons outfits, just isn't it. KK Slider looks very strange without his guitar in hand, just like in the games, and looks pretty much perfect sat on a stool jamming. Audie is lovely, especially with the new shade of orange, and the new head mould for wolf villagers is unexpected but very well done, although less of an accurate capture of the game model than some of the other animal types. I feel like an additional villager, reusing an existing head mould, could have easily been thrown in, and would have helped justify the high price a bit more.

I picked it up on sale for €60, and even then, it feels very overpriced. The building itself has less parts and less presence than Fauna's house, and the two sidebuilds don't add enough to compensate for it. Playability is limited, displayability even moreso. This would be a set to skip if it weren't for KK Slider, but at this stage my recommendation would be to pick him up on the secondary market. It's a shame, because this really should and could have been a large and worthy centrepiece, but an overeliance on a simple formula for the buildings in the series and the unnecessary vehicle take away from it.
