1972 BMW 2002 4-Speed
This BMW 2002 was acquired by the current owner on BaT in November 2022 and is finished in dark red over black vinyl upholstery. Power comes from a 2.0-liter inline-four equipped with a Weber carburetor and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes dual side-view mirrors, driving lights, 15” Rota wheels, front disc brakes, and a Kenwood CD stereo with a USB input. Service in December 2024 included repairs to the gauge cluster and replacement of the rear parking brake cables, drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders. This 2002 is offered on dealer consignment with a clean California title.
The car is finished in dark red and received a repaint under prior ownership. Exterior details include driving lights, dual side-view mirrors, pop-out front vent and rear quarter windows, an exposed fuel filler, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The brake lights work intermittently. Images detailing the condition of the exterior are presented in the gallery below.
The 15″ Rota alloy wheels are mounted with 195/55 Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The rear parking brake cables, drums, wheel cylinders, and shoes were replaced in December 2024.
The front bucket seats feature adjustable headrests and are trimmed in black vinyl, while charcoal carpets line the footwells. The interior was reupholstered under prior ownership, and at that time a Kenwood CD stereo with a USB input and JBL speakers was fitted. The doors fall closed if not held open, there are cracks in the dashboard, the courtesy light does not work, the turn signal stalk does not auto-cancel when the left signal is engaged, and the signal indicators in the instrument cluster work intermittently.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer was repaired in December 2024 and currently shows 36k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four has been fitted with a Weber Progressive carburetor with an electric choke. The starter is said to be occasionally sluggish
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which is reportedly difficult to shift into second gear.
