Today at the SPCA I walked 3 dogs: Duchess, Brandy and Bobo. Sort of.
I've walked Bobo before with no problem, but today he started barking aggressively at the dogs in the kennels next door. He was in "drive" and when he saw my hand move above him he lunged as if to bite me. He's a big dog and strong. I decided that it would be a bad idea for me to walk him further. The choice was to go back to his kennel through a corridor with dogs barking on both sides, or out past a dog run with dogs barking there too. Both bad choices. I found a spot where he couldn't see any dogs, and distracted him with treats till the kennel manager came past. I asked him for help, and he put Bobo back in his kennel for me.
That felt bad. But if Bobo bit me, that would have severe consequences for him.
Instead, I walked Duchess, a bouncy big-eared sweetheart who enjoys catching treats out of the air, and little Brandy, who is being adopted soon. So that's good news.

We had 4 then. We've had as many as 5 at one time. All of these are from the county shelter, but we are also fond of a local rescue.
All of these are deceased and fondly remembered. We got more.
Many grow old with us. Others we adopt when they're already quite old, and they last for awhile.

Yesterday morning, Charlie and I got our walk in, but once we came home, the motivation evaporated. I didn’t feel like doing anything else, so I didn’t. I spent most of the day in my chair getting my “recline workout,” which is a routine I’ve been trying to curb because I can think of plenty of things that actually need doing. But it was a rainy afternoon—thunder, lightning, and all the accoutrements—so the chair won that round.
I did manage to mop the kitchen floor, which should count for something… although “mop” might be generous. I dropped the Braava Jet in the middle of the room, pressed the clean button, and returned to my chair. It’s not a miracle worker, but it did wipe up Charlie’s muddy paw prints.
When Charlie comes in from the rain, I usually tell him to get in his bed so he can blot off the wet before roaming the house. Yesterday, though, he decided he had more pressing business at his food station. I wasn’t in the mood for a showdown, so I let him have his way.
Today I actually have to leave the house, which is probably for the best. It forces me out among the masses and reminds me that other humans exist. I don’t think my car has moved since our trip to Arkansas a couple of weeks ago. It’s not that I don’t want to go anywhere—I just can’t think of anywhere I need to go. Modern delivery services have spoiled me; if I need something, I just have it brought to the door.
I do need to make a Goodwill run. There’s a large box in the laundry room where we toss things we no longer use, and it’s full. The problem is getting it to the truck. The box is unwieldy, so I’ll have to break it down into manageable loads. But the recliner usually gets in the way of that plan.

Our lives have changed so much.
We no longer have any pets. I don’t think we’ll have any more for a couple of years at least. They were both so loved and they lived to a ripe old age (15 for the dog and 19.5 for the cat)

First time skiing W-fork Cyn all winter this morn. Barely enough 1950m start but 30cm base shaded area 4K out 2050m. Had to turn back there too sticky. 4C full sun, but at least not windy yet. Got Sundance/Otter after up hike on E Bench 1780-1900m and around. Just behind town nice views. 6C melting fast w SE wind. Most our low elevation ❄️ will melt today/tmrw, more again tho late Mon/Tue. had to stop and unclog my skis twice heading up. not at all on the return 👍🏽 it will be getting very windy in there tonight thru Mon. so much of the snowpack will be lost, before next shot late Mon/Tue.
I love this dog, and I love this shelter's description of him. I wish I was in a place where I could adopt. This shelter seems like it's run by the absolute best people. Today as I was just walking along the street, I passed by a home with a front garden. Suddenly two huge beasts jumped towards the rather low fence, barking loud and baring their terrible teeth.
For a moment, all the panic and fear of my childhood was back.

One of our favorite reliable ski places is in Bighorns ESE of here near the Medicine Wheel. Starts 2620m at highway closure, ski up that to wide open plateau 2840m, over to old derelict cabin 2900m. Then back toward the Wheel ridge, gives nice views. Only 10-15cm base on road at start, but 1-1.5m up top. Hard/crusty didn't loosen up much during the day. Can be absolutely brutal here NOV-APR, but benign today 0-3C lite SW wind. #climate #skiing #wyoming #dogs #mountains
