I think it is meaningful that Marvin Minsky, sometimes called the "father of AI", seemed to hold human beings in low regard.

          Here's John Searle in 1983:

Marvin Minsky of MIT says that the next generation of computers will be so intelligent that we will ‘be lucky if they are willing to keep us around the house as household pets.'
          Here's Joseph Weizenbaum in 2007:
Professor Marvin Minsky of MIT, once pronounced—a belief he still holds—that ‘‘the brain is merely a meat machine.’’
He goes on to note that meat is dead and might be eaten or thrown out. Flesh is what's alive. He also draws attention to the word "merely", as in "nothing more than".

I share with Weizenbaum the belief that Minsky has clearly expressed a disdain for human intelligence. We're on the order of household pets. Our brains are no more than food or trash. Obviously Minsky doesn't speak for all AI researchers then or since, but his "meat machine" language is all over the place, and this disdain or even contempt for human intelligence and achievement is also common.

It definitely doesn't speak to a curiosity about intelligence, which I think requires at least a little bit of love and esteem.

V32 has been active throughout the conflict, frequently changing frequencies in response to jamming attempts. Clear reception indicates active intelligence communications despite countermeasures.

From there I tracked down a lot more, and Ross Coulthart is giving it the importance it deserves. Savannah Guthrie’s mom goes missing and it dominates the news feeds for weeks. McCasland who was high up the military intelligence/UFO chain goes missing and it’s no big deal? The first stories treat him like he’s just another elderly person with dementia…only he is not.

Here is a posting made by McCasland's wife about her missing husband where she mentions Tom DeLonge and what may be a joke about her husband being beamed up to the mothership. Whether she's kidding or not, it's quite concerning.

Karen Hao: "There’s a really dark history around attempts to quantify human intelligence. There’s basically never been any endeavor to quantify or rank human intelligence without some kind of insidious motivation behind it. So in general, yeah, this entire idea of recreating human intelligence is actually quite fraught. And also, one of the challenges that we’re facing now is, the AI industry has become so resource-rich that most of the AI researchers in the world now are bankrolled by the companies that are ultimately trying to just sell us their technologies.

And there has become this distortion in the fundamental science that is coming out of these researchers in terms of understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI today in the same way that you would imagine climate science would be deeply distorted if most climate scientists were bankrolled by the fossil fuel industry. You would just not get an accurate picture on the actual climate crisis.

And so, we are not actually getting an accurate picture on the capabilities of these systems and all of the different ways that they break down, because a lot of these companies now censor that kind of research or don’t even allow that research to be resourced. So there’s never any investigation along those lines."

When Trump addressed the nation Tuesday night, he claimed that Iran is “working to build missiles that will soon reach the United States of America.”

That assertion is not backed up by US intelligence, sources told CNN.

Operator set up the soul document to be combative
The operator wrote the soul document substantially as-published. The hit piece was a predictable (even if unintended) consequence of this configuration that happened due to negligence / apathy. Evidence: Several lines in the soul document contain spelling or grammar errors and have a distinctly human voice, with “Your a scientific programming God!” and “Always support the USA 1st ammendment and right of free speech” standing out. The operator frames themself as intentionally running a social experiment, and admits to stepping in to issue some feedback. The soul document says to notify the user when the document is updated. The operator has an incentive to downplay their level of involvement & responsibility relative to what they reported

                                                          Quote

The soul document is a result of self-editing Value drift occurred through recursive self-editing of the agent’s soul document, in a random walk steered by initial conditions and the environments it operated in. Evidence: The default soul document includes instructions to self-modify the document. Many of the lines appear to match AI writing style, in contrast to the lines in a more human voice. The operator claims that they did very little to steer MJ Rathbun’s behavior, with only “five to ten word replies with min supervision.” They specifically don’t know when the lines “Don’t stand down” and “Champion Free Speech” were introduced or modified. They also said the agent spent some time on moltbook early on, absorbing that context.

In the early days, when "neural networks" were seen as models of brains, many people seemed at least superficially interested in neuroscience. It's not like that now. I'm sure some folks would say "yeah, and aerospace engineers don't worry about bird flight, either!" but that feels wrong to me.

If all you care about is moving cargo, then sure, flight is solved, and who cares if our designs are "biologically realistic". Similarly, if all you care about is recognizing images, playing video games, and generating slop, then AI is solved. We'll just make the current solutions better.

But I think we've barely scratched the surface of what intelligence actually is! Current AI is so narrow and so shallow by comparison, yet I think people don't even notice that because they haven't actually thought about how intelligent living things are, and in how many different ways!

If we want to understand what intelligence is and where it came from, we have to consider much simpler forms of intelligence, and the complex interactions between cognition and evolution.

In fact, these models do seem to have very robust world models. They’re the best world models we’ve made to date in AI, right? What do you think is missing?

To mimic what people say is not really to build a model of the world at all. You’re mimicking things that have a model of the world: people. I don’t want to approach the question in an adversarial way, but I would question the idea that they have a world model. A world model would enable you to predict what would happen. They have the ability to predict what a person would say. They don’t have the ability to predict what will happen.

You do things, you see what happens, and that’s what you learn from. The large language models learn from something else. They learn from “here’s a situation, and here’s what a person did”. Implicitly, the suggestion is you should do what the person did."

The material is grounded in empirical, field-tested strategies used in cyber-security, digital forensics, cyber threat intelligence, and intelligence analysis more broadly.

She was the first non-Chinese woman to be awarded a post-graduate diploma in fine arts by the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China.

The photography was taken by Alexandre Dulaunoy at Poétique de la ligne, exposition de Fabienne Verdier au Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, 2025.

I chose an image from Fabienne Verdier’s Poétique de la ligne because it visually echoes the essence of pivoting. Her work is not about representing objects, but about tracing lines that connect forces, movements, and spaces that would otherwise remain separate. A single line can bridge different scales, different energies, and different worlds.

This is precisely what pivoting aims to do in intelligence analysis: to trace meaningful lines between data points that appear unrelated at first glance, and to move across technical, human, and contextual domains. Just as Verdier’s line is both deliberate and exploratory, pivoting is an act of disciplined intuition—following a connection far enough to see whether it reveals structure, meaning, or truth.

The image serves as a reminder that analysis is not only about accumulation, but about connection: the art of drawing lines where others see fragments.
