The concept of a Window of Tolerance was created by Dr. Dan Siegel in 1999 and is used to help explain how the brain and the nervous system react to stress. We use this in EMDR therapy to teach clinets how to self regulate and manage big emotions. When pushed outside this middle zone, we can blow up like a tornado or shut down and freeze like a cave.
