Bee Vintage and Bee Ginghams – Summer Sewing Projects

I had such fun working with Bee Vintage and Bee Ginghams designed by Lori Holt. I love all Lori Holt fabrics! The basics line offers a rainbow of colors, but I decided to stick with the very Summery palette of turquoise, pink and sand.

The projects include my “Home Sweet Home Zipper Pouch”. The zipper pouch has a zipper closure and a boxy shape. The focal point is a Summery quilt block – my Berry Basket pattern.

I used the adorable selvage to make the cute little label for the second side of the pouch.

Bee ginghams in coral trims the top zipper closure and the berry basket is also made with bee ginghams.

Since Summer has arrived in the Pacific Northwest, I wanted to make a beach bag – big enough to hold all my beach essentials. The Log Cabin tote bag is the perfect beach bag. I had such fun choosing fabrics for the design! The log cabin panels include both Bee Vintage and Bee Ginghams.

The Log Cabin Tote also has D-ring loops if you’d like to add a strap.

You can find the Log Cabin Tote Pattern HERE

I Love to see your projects.  Please tag you photos on social media with the following hashtags:

a few finishes during a crazy, beautiful summer ; )

It has been a wonderful summer so far!  The weather has been beautiful and I've been spending lots of time in the yard gardening.  We even made it to the beach on Wednesday - I love Seattle in the summer!  With the boys out of school, and the distractions of summer, I have not been sewing as much lately.

But there is a bit of Progress ~ I have mailed some bee blocks!  It is so nice to be caught up!  We just started round 2 of the Cocorico - the sewing machine is for Erin and the berry basket is for Melinda.
The dress is for Penny in the Ringo Pie bee.
You can find patterns for the sewing machine and the strawberry basket in my Etsy and Craftsy shops!

I have found some time to create a larger version of my twelve patch pouch - it is made with 3 1/2" squares so it measures a nice and large 8" x 12".    You can find the tutorial for the smaller version [Here]

I added the small tabs to attach a shoulder strap or wrist strap.
This project is a request from my mom for a smaller bag that she can use to carry her wallet for walks to nearby shopping destinations.

I put together this stack of fabrics while organizing my stash - they just look so yummy and summery!
I'm thinking a parasol quilt - umbrella blocks similar to one adorning the bag I made for Stitch Magazine last Spring.  Or a simpler half square triangle quilt to show off the beautiful fabrics.

Have a lovely day!

Sunday Stash

On a recent trip to Ikea I purchased a pretty little "Isala" cabinet for fabric storage.  My current method is to store my fabrics in plastic bins by color.  This works great but makes it hard to find the exact fabric I am looking for.  I wasn't sure how I would store my stash in the new cabinet until I saw a pic of Angela's stash on instagram.  She uses comic book backer boards to make mini bolts and has a tutorial here

My hope is that this new method of storing fabric will cut down on the amount of time spent picking fabric for projects since most of my stash will be in one space - like a mini fabric store : )

I'm planning on making some large berry baskets for storing the stacks of fat quarters.
Anna's Fab tutorial for making the baskets can be found here.

This is by far my favorite shelf - I love red and pink together!

Sewing has been happening at the Randell House!  I've been working on "petite cottages" for the handmade ornament swap group on Flickr.  I have designed two more houses and will have them available as a PDF pattern soon.  They make fun ornaments and you can also make sachets for gifts any time of year!

And last, a pic of my boys with their new camouflage caps, part of their costume for Halloween!

Happy Sewing!

Berries in a Basket

I haven't done an online swap in ages.  When Erin asked me to join her strawberry pin cushion swap I knew it would be the perfect one.  I purchased this pattern for the strawberries and was led to this adorable version for the flower tops from this website.  I used wool felt for the flowers and adorned the center with french knots.  Seed beads would be adorable as well!
If you don't want to buy a pattern I found some great tutes to make strawberry pincushions and sachets.    Down Grapevine Lane has a fab pattern HERE

The strawberry cap is make from two layers of fabric that I fused together using Pellon Wonder Under.  I then cut our the shape and glued it to the top with fabric glue. You can also add a slip stitch or blanket stitch around the edges.

The basket is from Anna at  Noodlehead and is a wonderful and easy project!  I'm going to make a bunch for fat quarters and "works in progress" for my sewing table!

The strawberries and the baskets are fun, addictive projects and I can't wait to make more!
