Meet the team

I've handpicked a team of Dev Academy alumni who can learn fast, teach clearly, ship production code, and lead projects from start to finish.

We've been working together on commercial projects for two years - building AI systems, shipping SaaS products, and helping organisations bridge the gap between no-code tools and custom development.

Joshua Vial

Founder

I studied computer science in the late 90s and have been programming professionally ever since. I was an early partner at MadeCurious in the early 2000s, founded Enspiral in 2010, and co-founded Dev Academy in 2013.

Code With JV has been my core focus since 2023. More at joshuavial.com.

Jen Hurley

Developer

Jen joined the team in January 2024. They both studied and taught at Dev Academy in 2023, and love creating inclusive learning environments that demystify software development.

They're the core of the Fundsorter dev team, working across the fullstack and AI agentic systems and workflows.

JV:I've had to bribe the Fundsorter team (chocolate) to free up Jen for teaching and other projects.

Joel Anderson

Developer

Joel joined the team in June 2025. He graduated Dev Academy in 2025, bringing years of experience in product management and scaling small business operations before retraining as a full-stack developer.

Joel has a background in industrial design and digital manufacturing.

JV:He's also great at coaching self-confessed hoarders (aka me) to get rid of junk in their shed. My wife marvels at his persuasive abilities.
