Water Color Fun

With Water Color Pencils
Using water color pencils is a fun way to color your project.
You can mix colors to get blended and softer colors.
Or...you can just color in your image without adding water.
Be sure to give it a try and share with us at  Heart 2 Heart.

The Colors of Roses

A Challenge of the Colors of Red
The challenge at Color My Heart is to use only shades of red with black and white free. When I think of Roses I think of red roses. So I made a Red Rose Collection  with CTMH reds: Sangria, Ruby, and  Candy Apple. The roses and leaves are water colored with ink pads.

Color Dare #300

It's Been Six Years
Since the first Color Dare came on the scene, I remember when Sarah Stone invited Close to My Heart consultants to come and play at the new Color Dare challenge. And...I was there. You can visit my first post at Color My Heart HERE. Time really does go by fast at my age. Thanks Sarah.
And... six years later I still love playing at Color My Heart. To get the soft colors on my card I stamped the image in permanent black ink on water color paper. Then I placed one drop of  Bashful, Mink, and Pacifica re-inker on an acrylic block. I used the water brush to water color the image. Fun and easy.

Join the contest and design a special project with these colors and win a medium size box of fun Close to My Heart products. Be sure to post your project at Color My Heart.

Technique Time

 Water Color
At Heart 2 Heart the new water color challenge gave
me the opportunity to bring out my water brushes.
My favorite way to water color is to use the coordinating
ink pad and the water brush to add the color.

This is a close up of the water colored flowers and leaves.
For this technique cut your desired shapes and lay them on
the Versa Mat or a water proof surface. Spray them with a
light mist of water. Use your water brush to pick up ink color
from the lid of your ink pad. Touch the wet image with the
inked brush and it will spread across the wet image. To get the
two tone color on the leaves I used Emerald with a touch of Lemon.

I used this sketch from Atlantic Hearts for my card.

Fun With Shapes

Water coloring the cut out shape from this card
made another fun card with the leftovers for the
water color challenge at Heart 2 Heart.

Water coloring the cut out butterfly and adding the
white layering softens the water color look.
When playing with your water colors don't forget the shapes
and layers available with the new Artistry Cricut cartridge.

Winter Wonder Window

Making A Window Card
Making a window card is easy as choosing a shape, cut out
the shape and stamp a scene behind the cut out shape.
Be sure to check out Through the Window challenge
at Heart 2 Heart for more window ideas.
I cut out the snowflake using water color paper.
After wetting the water colored the paper I painted it
with a light blue. While it was wet I sprinkled salt on the
blue paint to get the snow effect. I stamped a snow scene
in the window and put the card together. Make your window

Water Color Fun

With Splats of Color
Adding a splat of color to your card has never been easier.
Just use our new CTMH Water Color paints, water color paper and
brushes. Add a sentiment with black ink and embellish with any
assortment of black embellishments.
For the splat technique cut your water color paper 1" bigger on all
sides of the size you will want to use. Attach the paper to a piece of
cardboard with washi tape to secure. Wash the paper with clear water
using the widest brush. Choose your colors and add your splats with the
largest round brush. Each splat will run in the wet water that you washed
on the paper. They will run together to make other colors. I started with
the red color, then added some yellow and then the green. I just let
the splats run on the paper wherever they wanted to go. Let the paper
dry completely before you make your card.

Water Color Blocking

With Honey, Poppy, & Cocoa
From the challenge at  Color My Heart.
I found a new CTMH challenge: Between the Folds
and decided to give it a try. The challenge this week was watercolor.
Since we don't currently have washi tape I decided to turn it
into a tool. Use your washi tape to block off the area on your
watercolor paper. Then watercolor the blocked off area the colors
of your choice. I used Poppy and Honey. I used the script block
in Universal Backgrounds with Cocoa ink to give it some texture.
So, Check out Between The Folds each Tuesday for a new
CTMH challenge and be sure to challenge yourself
each week with the Color My Heart Color Dare.

Color Dare 159

The Colors of Sangria
Eggplant Pomegranate Poppy Cocoa Desert Sand Champagne

The new Sangria paper pack brings us bright and cheerful colors of Fall.
Also new this Fall is water coloring of all kinds. I wanted to try coloring the
stamp with the water color paints and stamping on the CS. The challenge
at Color My Heart helped to make this water colored card.
The Sangria paper packs offers a variety of Fall colors to
make this floral stamp fun to paint. Even though the color
challenge does not name a green the paper has a green in it.
So I used New England Ivy ink pad for the green stems on
my stamp. The flowers are Eggplant, Pomegranate, and Poppy.
So, now, it's your turn to share your Sangria creations with us
