Cover letter template

If you’d rather write it yourself, this four-paragraph structure works for almost any role. Replace everything in brackets.

Dear [Hiring Manager’s name],

I’m applying for the [job title] role at [company]. [One sentence on the strongest match: e.g. “In four years running night operations at Brightway, I’ve raised pick accuracy to 99.6%, and your ad’s focus on accuracy at scale is exactly the problem I like solving.”]

[Achievement paragraph. Pick two or three requirements from the ad and give one proof for each, with a number. Name tools and methods the ad names.]

[Why them. Something specific: a product, a market, a value you’ve seen in action. One or two sentences.]

I’d welcome the chance to talk about how I could help [team/company] [goal from the ad]. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

What makes a cover letter work

  • Open with the match, not your name. The reader already knows who you are from the header.
  • Prove, don’t claim. “Cut onboarding time from 6 weeks to 3” beats “fast learner who hits the ground running”.
  • Mirror the ad’s words for skills and tools, the same way you would tailor your resume.
  • Keep it under a page and send it in the same format as your resume.

Questions people ask

Is the AI cover letter generator free?

Yes. No account and no limit on edits. There is a light rate limit per visitor to keep the service running for everyone.

How long should a cover letter be?

Between 250 and 400 words, which fits on one page with room to spare. Hiring managers skim; three or four short paragraphs beat a dense page.

Should I use an AI-written cover letter as is?

Use it as a first draft. Check every claim, add one detail only you could know (a product you use, a person you spoke to, why this team) and read it aloud once. That specific detail is what makes it sound like you.

Who do I address a cover letter to?

The hiring manager by name if the ad or LinkedIn tells you. Otherwise “Dear Hiring Manager” or “Dear [Team] Hiring Team” is fine. Avoid “To whom it may concern”.

Do I need a cover letter if it is optional?

Often it is not read, but when it is, it can separate close candidates, and it is where you explain a career change, relocation or gap. If you have a real reason for wanting this job, send a short one.
