Hey Shuttlers, this looks cool! I've been following the development of Shuttle for a while and it is very cool to see all the features you've added lately. What's the plan for the short/long term future? Is there a public roadmap?

Shuttle is a Rust-native cloud development platform that lets you deploy your app while also taking care of all of your infrastructure (no config files, no yaml files, no AWS/GCP/Azure dashboards). Getting a database, for example, is a matter of adding one line to your main project file.

Shuttle is a Rust-native platform that builds, deploys and manages backend services with zero infrastructure config.

Key features

6 features of Shuttle
  • One-line resource provisioning — Add databases, secrets or storage by annotating your Rust code, no YAML needed.
  • Instant cloud deployment — Deploy with a single CLI command; Shuttle builds and runs your service in seconds.
  • Local-to-cloud parity — Local development mirrors the cloud environment, including databases and secrets.
  • Framework support — Works with major Rust web frameworks such as Rocket, Actix, and others.
  • Cache-based redeploys — Uses previous build caches for lightning-fast redeploys.
  • Vendor-agnostic hosting — Deploy to Shuttle’s cloud, your own cloud, or on-premise without lock-in.

Use cases

  • Deploy a Rust API with PostgreSQL in minutes
  • Run a stateful Rust service without cold starts
  • Add a Discord bot backend written in Rust
  • Build a full-stack app using Rust backend and any JS frontend

  • Shuttle vs Fastgen: Fastgen offers a no-code backend builder, while Shuttle requires Rust code.
  • Shuttle vs Devzero: Devzero focuses on rapid code-to-deployment pipelines across languages; Shuttle is Rust-only with built-in infra.
  • Shuttle vs Keel: Keel provides backend services and team tools, whereas Shuttle is a Rust-centric deployment platform.
  • Shuttle vs Open SaaS: Open SaaS is an open-source starter kit for React/Node apps; Shuttle handles Rust backend hosting.

Shuttle FAQ

What happens when I deploy to Shuttle?+

Your code is built on Shuttle’s servers; the first use of a resource (e.g., a database) triggers automatic provisioning and wiring to your deployment.

Is there a local development experience?+

Yes, Shuttle ensures that what runs locally matches the cloud environment, including databases and secrets.

Can I use any frontend framework with Shuttle?+

Your API is exposed at a public URL, so any frontend hosted on Vercel, Netlify, etc., can call it, and static content hosting is planned.

How does Shuttle differ from AWS Lambda?+

Shuttle runs services on dedicated infrastructure with stateful long-running threads, no cold starts, unlike Lambda’s serverless model.

Will there be a WASM runner?+

Shuttle is actively developing a WASM runner with faster build and deploy times, slated for stable release soon.
