From Ancient Greek Εὐφόρβιον (Euphórbion), from Εὔφορβος (Eúphorbos, Euphorbus) + -ιον (-ion, -ium). The name is from Εὔφορβος (Eúphorbos, well-fed); εὖ (, well) + φορβή (phorbḗ, food, fodder).
