Pericardial Function is to protect against myocardial microbial infection, and to protect against mechanical force trauma near the lungs. The parietal pericardium has two layers with a cavity in between with a pericardial fluid. This cavity is the pericardial cavity. There is also a visceral pericardium, which is a membrane lining the heart (superficial epicardium). 19.6 Pericardium. The protective layers of the heart include the pericardial sac composed of an outer fibrous pericardium and an inner serous membrane called the parietal layer of serous pericardium. Tightly adhered to the heart is a serous membrane called the visceral layer of serous pericardium. The space between the parietal and visceral layers is called the pericardial cavity, which contains serous fluid produced by both serous membranes Heart Layers Anatomy, Cardiac Physiology, Graduation Motivation, Teas Exam, Serous Membrane, Cardiac Sonography, Study Images, Nursing School Essential, Tissue Engineering
