A boot

Far Guy got the new boot installed on his old car Tilly.  The boot is filled with grease and it protects the drive shaft from costly repairs.  Although Far Guy says it was an expensive fix.  I replied "old cars are expensive."

We went out for breakfast and ran a few errands while she was being worked on.  Afterwards Far Guy filled her up with the proper gas...premium.

So other than some polishing the old car Tilly is ready to go to car shows this summer.

Car appointment

I left early in the morning for the car appointment for an oil change and a tire rotation.  I crocheted while waiting.   They have two waiting rooms...one with a TV and one without.  The TV room has the coffee pots...the salesmen go in and out filling their cups...one said "Good Morning"  the others were silent.  I was there just about two hours. Cross something off my list!

Like I told Far Guy...waiting room patrons are held hostage until their car is done.  If I were a car salesman I would be talking to people and handing out business cards.  I think a few cars could be sold that way...but what do I know.

Far Guy told me not to buy a car while I was there...so I didn't.    Oil change/new car they kinda go together.

Photo project

I finished with my Mom's photos, they have been sorted and some have been scanned.  All the old black and whites have been scanned, the color photos I chose to scan were the most interesting ones. I asked my siblings to stop by and pick up their photos.  I put out a plea on Facebook to my cousins to come and get their old photos.  We will see who shows up.

It is good to have that project behind me.

Far Guy went to a 90th birthday gathering for the Tomato Man who lives over on the narrows.  He had a good visit with everyone.  I did not go...I was having a bad Arthritis day...so the warm rice bag and the couch were my activity for the afternoon.

Photo from 1957.  The photo was taken in my maternal grandparents yard.  On the back of the photo it says "Ma's new Buick"  that must be the 1957 Buick in the background.  The Buick next to the house is a 1950 Buick Eight.

I do not recall either vehicle.

"The Tomato Man"  doesn't every rural community have someone who is known by a nickname?  In this case Curtis is known for the tomatoes he has grown since he was a kid.  He hangs out a sign with the word Tomatoes on it and people stop by to buy his tomatoes.

Busy Wednesday

A very old friend stopped by on Wednesday morning for a visit.  We lived next door to each other in 1972.  We had a good visit. She is a talker!

I cooked up the tomatoes that I had frozen. I had a hunk of roast beef cooking all morning, I peeled and chopped...rutabaga, carrots, cabbage and potatoes and put them in the fridge.

I had an eye appointment in town.  I will see a specialist....I may have a secondary cataract. Old eyes.

After the appointment we did some grocery shopping and stopped by and saw my Mom.  She has been ill with pneumonia and still has a really bad cough.

Back at home I  put the tomatoes through a strainer that captures seeds and skins.  I chopped up the roast beef and added all my vegetables...it is soup! I had some for supper...Far Guy passed, I gave him fair warning so he stopped by Subway in town for a chicken sandwich.  He will eat soup once a year and yesterday was not the day.

Town and Visitors

I ran errands while Far Guy had his infusion.  I had quite a list at Wally World.  Main Street was full of cars, there are still a few tourists around.

I have a list of many others things to pick up here and there but did not feel up to doing it yesterday.  One day soon I will have Far Guy drive me around and drop me off here and there to get everything on my ongoing project list.  Embroidery floss, Seven Ant Killer, white primer and paint, a wood sealer for some wood trim that needs a refreshing and bath tub molding...our tub has a rounded back edge and the sealant and molding need to be replaced.

My Cousin Chuckie came out to visit us in the afternoon and my baby brother and his bride and Baxter visited us in the evening.

1933 Buick that was at the last Car Show.

The oven repair fellow is supposed to be here today (Friday) to fix my oven.  It works for a couple of hours then makes dinging noises and shuts itself off.  It is a Jenn-air range that is 24 years old.

Ornaments anyone?

It has turned cool here, it rained a bit late Thursday.   It was frosty in the early morning Friday.   I did not get up in time to see the frost but Far Guy assured me it was there.

We are finished with woodcarved Christmas Ornaments!  Yeah us!  I have a few that I will give away here on the blog.  Please share something to be entered...how about sharing what your favorite Christmas Movie or Program was/is.

My favorite movie is A Christmas Story...where Ralphie almost shot his eye out!  Share your favorite to be entered in the ornament giveaway.   I will mail to the United States and Canada...so enter away until Monday night when I will draw some winners.

Here is a snowy old photo...that looks like my Dad and I think that is his car on the left...looks like he had a bunch of snow to shovel...and they had a really long drive way too!  Photo taken at my paternal grandparents farm.

Appointment week

We have four appointments this week.  Two down and two to go...one is virtual!!  I like those the best.

Far Guy had a CT scan and saw his Pulmonologist in Grand Forks ND.  Far Guy is doing well and we are supposed to keep on keeping on and come back in six months.

We did a little shopping at Best Buy, Harbor Freight and Kohls where we met up with Jen.  We went over to Panera Bread for lunch where our grandson Adam is the assistant manager.  He likes his job and the people he works with.  After the last appointment we went to see Sadie and Little Elvis...both were happy to see us.

So most of the day was spent in the car.

In this 1928 Model A  it would have been a longer day.  They cruised about 45 miles per hour on good roads.

Gathering and a Studebaker

Gathering supplies that I need for the Christmas cards...the hunt is now complete.

Grocery pickup was not without drama...the phone at the grocery store was busy for 40 minutes...so I had to go inside to the service desk and request that my order be delivered to the car.   Far Guy had to wait outside the clinic for a bit...he said he was content to people watch while waiting.  We got everything on our list.   I have been gathering some extra things that we use  all the time.  Soaps, lotions, paper products, craft supplies, yarn...you get the idea.

I have a number of photos of old cars...after all I have lots of time during car shows...and once in a while I actually learn something new.

1956 Studebaker Power Hawk.  Owned by a long time friend of Far Guy...the fellow is 88 years old.

It has curb feelers!

What you don't know about curb feelers?   See that wire/spring that is sticking out...it makes a noise if you get too close to the curb and saves you from scraping your white wall tires or your fancy hubcaps.

Some Progress

Since we stayed home yesterday I made some progress on several projects that I was behind with.  Some mowing...and my lawn mower had to be repaired three times by Far Guy.  Hopefully it is all fixed now...some safety wire may hold my mulching chute shut....when companies change a part for mulching the change is not always a good one.

I cleaned up a mess by one of the trees (long grass and leaves)...I have wagon wheels that lean there and a whole bunch of solar lights...some working and some not so much.   There was an ant hill in part of that area....only a few ants...not a swarm.   So I sprayed for ants.  Only three Solar Lights were working.

I am working on the Christmas Card...plain old white watercolor paper works...but using a golden shade of watercolor as a wash...makes it all better.   It is project.  I make about 130 cards....so I work on it a long time.

I ordered yarn for a new project...another crochet along... even though I am not done with two previous crochet along projects.  I figure I can rotate through them all winter.    I should make a list but that would be scary.   One project just needs a border.  Oh well.

Desoto Day

The old girl Tilly made it to the last car show of the season.   It was a beautiful day at the lake.

Cars were parked all along the Lakeshore Drive.

We got a good spot this time, easy to get into and out of.   It was a bit windy but nice next to the lake.

Far Guy and his cousin Tommy.  Far Guy talked to many people...and saw some guys that he used to work with.

We met another fellow and his wife who also had a Desoto...theirs was a 1960 Desoto.

He told me he bought the fenders skirts from a guy in California.

It was a fun afternoon/evening...we got home just before dark.

We stopped for gas on the way home...Tilly gets 11 miles per gallon.

See the USA

Some of you may be old enough to remember when Dinah Shore sang the rest of that jingle.

My parents didn't get a TV until 1960...but I am still familiar with the song.  Far Guy said his parents got a TV in about 1955.

A Whale

Of a car.   This old Cadillac is about six inches longer that Far Guys new old car.

Sign of the times a hat on the seat and a mask on the shifter.  Note the fuzzy dice.

Far Guy could have fuzzy dice but no one would see them because the rear view mirror is on the dash.

We had a quiet Saturday, there was another car show we were invited to but it started early in the morning and it was forecast to be a very warm day.  So we stayed home.   Far Guy woodcarved and I worked on lots of misc stuff...

A few nights ago my baby brother, his wife and Baxter were headed out on the prairie to watch the Perseids...I was invited along.  We were lucky enough to see a number of fine looking meteors.  No mosquitoes because it is so dry.  I attempted one photo...I probably need a refresher course in night camera settings:)

One Day At A Time

Yesterday was a looong day.  Up early and a long drive to the University of Minnesota for a cat scan, lung tests and a six minute walk for Far Guy.

The Doctor says, "keep doing what you are doing ... the left lobe of the lung is not all the way collapsed as we hoped for, part is sunken... will reevaluate in six to eight weeks as more procedures/replacing valves may be called for."

And so it goes one day at a time. We arrived home safe and sound last evening.

Highlight of the day.  Remember the old Police Cars with the bubble on top...think Barney in Mayberry RFD.  We passed one...what fun to see....here it is in the rear view mirror.
