Date Night

We had our usual once a year date night at the County Fair.
We had French Fries at the 4 -H booth and a Pork Burger at the pork producers stand, we walked through the exhibit buildings and onto the Midway.

It was a very warm day.  We sat and rested a few times.

Far Guy has been struggling in the heat and the humidity.  We bought a dehumidifier and since then he can breathe a bit easier inside the house.

We should have a definite spot on the Transplant List this week, they had to submit everything to our Insurance Company...they may want some additional tests.  He has been discussed at the transplant group and received the all clear for either a right or left lung.  The Medical/Insurance World is all about hurry up and wait. When they call for many phone numbers we will know he is on the list.

I took many notes while on the phone with the Transplant Coordinator....we have a book and we write everything down.

We have to go back to the Cities soon for a consult with an Endocrinologist and he needs to have a scan done of his esophagus.  Hopefully they can schedule them the same day.

Fair Date

My pupils have finally returned to normal after my eye appointment! So we could have our yearly fair date. We go into town to the Shell Prairie Fair, see the midway and walk around in the barns and exhibit buildings.  We always look forward to the outing.  Especially the local Pork Producers Eat Stand that has the best pork burgers!  We found some french fries in one stand but should have walked further and saved $4. No cheese curds this year they were only available on the midway….and there was a line of people there so we bypassed those calories.

Midway

Rock It

I bet this ride is real pretty at night.

Rock it on top

It is one of those screaming pee your pants kinda rides.

Our weather was cool yesterday with a high of about 60F or 15C eh!

Big wheel

This particular carnival splits their show in half to play two smaller county fairs at the same time. There was about 5 kid rides, a Scrambler, a train, a super slide and three other major thrill rides.  They are a southern show from Louisiana who just plays fairs in Minnesota all summer long.

It is a nice show, everything is clean and well kept.  There are benches for us old people to sit on and watch people.  While we were sitting, we noticed that the ride boys were picking up garbage off the ground and putting it in garbage cans…some people just throw their wrappers and bottles anyplace.  There were garbage cans in plain site about every fifty feet…really people just put your garbage in the can!

Pretty quilt

A quilt that caught my eye

Succulents

A well designed pot of succulents

Alpca or a Llama

Not sure if this is an Alpaca or a Llama…he didn’t like me very much.

old chicken barn

Far Guy likes the chicken barn the best.  Me… I spend the most time with the goats.

Date Night

We have a standing date night from year to year.  “What night are we going to the Fair for a Pork Burger?”

Fair Food

I had my camera along and took a photo of Minnesota Fair Food that is NOT on a stick.

ALL of the Minnesota State Fair food is on a stick…not so much at small county fairs.

Homemade French Fries, Cheese Curds, a Pork Burger and a Coke.  We shared the fries and curds….uffda those curds were out of this world and the pork burger was awesome!

This was actually lunch and supper combined as we had been stuck in town most of the afternoon with a Clinic appointment and the Tracker needed some work.

We walked through the exhibits, visiting here and there.  It is a good place to see neighbors and family…my parents showed up for a pork burger too.

I walked through one of the barns.

Bunny Rabbitt

The sign said Pet a Bunny FREE!  He was ever so soft…I raised bunnies once upon a time.  I think this one wanted to go home with me…but I resisted.   The goats were tough to pass up also…I had a goat once…I love goats.

Shorthorn Cross Story

My Name is Peanut  My Story: I am a shorthorn cross heifer (girl) calf.   My mom had my brother and I on July 11, 2015.  Unfortunately my mom could only care for my brother so now I have a human mom her name is Stephanie.  I get fed twice a day around 8 or 8:30 in the morning and 5-6 at night.  I love to be pet and talked to.  Thanks for reading about me.  Enjoy the fair!

We walked through the Midway.

Gondola Ride

We checked out all the rides and talked with a few more people.  Far Guy asked at the Sno-Cone place if they had grape?  The answer was no…only Raspberry, Orange and Cherry.  So we went without.  If you are going to have a Sno-Cone it should be grape.

It was a warm day on the fairgrounds, there was a bit of a breeze but it was still warm.

The Tracker got new brakes and rotors…something was stuck and making a noise from time to time.  It was driving Far Guy nuts…he kept rolling down the window trying to listen for an intermittent sound…now it is fixed.

*** All about the Cheese Curds that we enjoy in the Midwest:

Cheese Curds are squeaky fresh, delectable cheddar cheese in its natural, random shape and form before being processed into blocks of cheddar.

Fresh cheese curds are a calcium enriched, low-carb, protein snack. They are a healthy alternative to junk food.

However when you dip them in beer batter and fry them up in a fryer…they become fair food!

Out with the guys

Our company from Iowa is here.  We went to the County Fair in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Detroit Lakes Fair

Seemed like old times…walking the Midway.

Wild HorsesHorses three abreast, this Allan Herschell Merry Go Round is a beauty…even better since we knew who bought this Merry Go Round when it was brand new. ..our good friend Joe who died in 2012.

We wandered through the commercial exhibits and found some old cars.

gene and a 1953 Desoto

A 1953 Desoto..the old guys there talked our ears off.

There is a lot of talking your ears off going on around here. Our Iowa friend got a new car (a Ford) the backseat is reasonably comfortable…but I cannot stretch out completely….I kinda miss that old Cadillac..he said it got horseshit gas mileage.

Date Night at the Fair

Last night we had a date.  That would mean our usual Pork Burger, Cheese Curds and French Fries at the Hubbard County Fair.  We have a standing date to eat, stroll down the Midway, and go through the 4-H exhibits every year.

Date Night at the fair

This ride would have made me puke.

Some ride that would make me puke

Something about being upside down and moving really fast…uffda that would do me in.

Winners at the fair

We really enjoy looking at all the exhibits.

New use for an old bike

Someone had a really good idea for a old bike…perhaps they should have had more time to execute their vision…but it is still a great idea.

We scored some free reusable insulated grocery bags from one of the Commercial Exhibits.  AND I won a handful of plastic key chains at the Nudgers ( Penny Falls) on the Midway!

What fun at the fair!

Date Night: Hubbard County Fair

Far Guy and I have a standing date from year to year. We go to the local County Fair late in the day. The first stop is the Pork Producers food stand for a pork burger..I usually stop off at another stand to get deep fried cheese curds..last night I chose homemade french fries instead with about three squirts of catsup in one end of the cardboard container. We meet up at the picnic table under the grandstand inside the Pork Producers stand. Neither of us has to cook..we are in a cooking slump. Not in an eating slump..just a cooking slump. Especially Far Guy..and this is not a good thing..it means I have to help him out with more than just a list of things he can cook which I post on the fridge. It means I actually have to go into the kitchen and cook something..now this is serious. The other night Jen called, I said "You have interrupted my cooking." She said " Who are you, and what have you done with my Mother?"

We do like the fair for more than just the food, we walk the Midway..stopping to greet neighbors and friends. I am easily distracted by the Nudgers and 5 dollars will keep me occupied while Far Guy walks around..it is not a huge midway.

For dessert Far Guy is in search of a perfect sno cone..grape..that is the only flavor that a sno cone should be in his opinion. I ask if we can just sit for a moment, I love to watch the little kids with their cotton candy and brightly colored sno cones. I "think" I see one kid with a grape sno cone..we argue "Did too." " Did not." "Did too."
Finally he walks over and checks it out. He gets in line..they must have his beloved grape.
I am joined on the park bench by one of my cousins girls..she is getting re-married soon..and will be the mother of six instead of four..she is a far better mother than me.. Far Guy is conversing with one of his second cousins while standing in line. It is normal for me to meet and talk with many of my cousins on a regular basis..far less common for Far Guy (smaller family).
Sno cones and little kids what a great match.
He is now going to part with two dollars for a sno cone..later he tells me that his first grape sno cone was ten cents and a guy whose name he cannot remember made great ones...that was before the Barrys super duper home made grape syrup..and that one used to be 25 cents unless it was Joyce that waited on him..then it was free (Joyce liked Far Guy.)
Success..just like a little kid again.
We round out the evening by going through all the exhibits in the commercial building and into the barns, where I can see the newly shorn sheep and gaze longingly at the goats. We giggle at the long eared fat rabbits..and carefully visit with a couple of Lamas before we head to Far Guys very favorite the Chicken barn..the roosters are crowing..one is very hoarse..he has probably been in this crowing contest since yesterday..not much changes at the fair..the burgers are always delicious..the evening always ends at the DNR building looking at all the dead animal mounts.. the big excitement there was the new addition of a huge tub with some water in it and some painted turtles and one snapping turtle and a big sign that said "Do Not Touch, they will bite."

It was a lovely warm evening in Minnesota last night, and a great night for a date night! Tonight we are headed to the neighbors for a party..and tomorrow for a Family Reunion for Far Guy..no cooking for the next few days either and by Sunday who knows. The homemade from scratch soak all night the night before baked beans that we will take to both potlucks are in the fridge..someone that was impersonating me in the kitchen is a fairly good cook..but not often:)
